February 25, 2001 - A stress
fracture in Anna Kournikova's left foot will have her out of action for
a month... Which means two missed tournaments at Acapulco and Indian Wells.
February
25, 2001 - The company that manages Anna's official site and official Yahoo
club, ArtistsDirect.com, is joining the dotcom deadpool.
February 25, 2001 - Sergei
is on the wires saying, "People can keep talking about us because they're
doing a great job. I'm not talking, and Anna is not talking. You can go
to the Internet and find everything you need."
February 18, 2001 - The creator
of the Kournikova virus was arrested Wednesday. The 20 year old Dutchman
who goes by the name "onthefly" said he chose Anna "just because I am a
big fan of her," adding "She is so pretty."
February 18, 2001 - In The
Sporting News' tribute to Young Athletes in Love, the magazine said of
Pavel Bure-Sergei Fedorov and Anna Kournikova, "Chasing loose pucks isn't
their only hobby -- the two former Soviet Red Army speedsters have skated
after the Lobbing Lolita well before she was old enough to date. It's a
shame when a love troika comes between comrades."
February 14, 2001 - Conan
O'Brien joked about the Anna Kournikova virus Tuesday saying thousands
of men downloaded it just so they could brag that they caught a virus from
Anna.
February 13, 2001 - While
most men wouldn't mind catching a virus from Anna Kournikova, they wouldn't
appreciate a computer generated one. Email systems around the world were
shut down today after a I Love You Virus type worm with an attachment named
AnnaKournikova.jpg.vbs spread within hours. If you get an email saying
"Here you have, ;o)" with the file attached, DO NOT OPEN IT.
February 11, 2001 - Those
predicting Anna would win her first WTA tour title this weekend in Paris,
like myself, were wrong. Again, Anna lost even though she was the #2 seed
and had been playing excellent recently. Losing 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1 to Amelie
Mauresmo in the quarterfinals, Anna seemed to fall apart after the tiebreaking
2nd set which if she'd won would have sealed her victory, apparently due
to the abdominal strain she first suffered in Tokyo. Anna said afterwards,
"She was really nervous at the beginning and made all the mistakes but
I wasn't 100 percent and was surprised I was up so easily."
