Venus Williams overcame some stubborn resistance from Anna Kournikova to
forge a 6-3, 6-4 victory in their quarter-final match at the Stanford WTA
Classic.

28, 2002 - Reuters reports even tennis guru Harold Solomon, needed to be
won over by the much-maligned Anna Kournikova initially. "Harold asked
me a billion times: 'I want to make sure you are committed'," Kournikova
said in an interview. "I said: 'Why would I go waste your and my time doing
all the things we are doing if I wasn't?'"
July 28, 2002 - Anna Kournikova
ended a five-match losing streak Tuesday night with a 6-3, 6-2 upset of
eighth-seeded Anna Smashnova in the first round of the Bank of the West
Classic. "After losing so many matches, I think I finally got over it,"
Kournikova said.

said of Anna Kournikova recently, "I think she has a big question to ask,
whether or not she needs to clear off a bit of her obligations and just
... be a tennis player for a while, because I think she's going to really
regret not answering the question if she isn't able to sort of clear her
slate a bit."
July 10, 2002 - The Sun reports
bookies are giving odds of 10-1 that Enrique Iglesias will wed Anna Kournikova
before the end of the year. Still, those are much better odds than Anna
winning her first tennis major, as they offer 200-1 odds that she'll win
the US Open tennis tournament later this year.

Enrique Iglesias and girlfriend Anna Kournikova kept guests at the plush
Four Seasons in London up all night while enjoying a loud session of lovemaking.
A hotel insider revealed, "They were so noisy. I could hear Anna screaming
and it sounded like cries of pleasure. Another guest several doors down
the corridor complained twice about the noise and there were complaints
by people in the next room and also from the room below. People were calling
the reception until past four in the morning."
July 9, 2002 - Following
Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova's night of passion before Anna's Wimbledon
loss of the the weekend, the pair again caused chaos at Party in the Park
when the pair showed up just minutes before his scheduled perfomance. A
source revealed, "Organisers were really worried Enrique was not going
to show. They went to great lengths to accommodate him and his massive
entourage." Iglesias also played the part of the male diva, "Despite his
room being bigger and better than everyone else's, he didn't seem happy.
He looked tired and unimpressed." In fact Iglesias had demanded the largest
dressing room.
July 9, 2002 - News of the
World reports Enrique Iglesias and girlfriend Anna Kournikova drank champagne
cocktails and kissed at a late night redezvous at Mayfair Club the night
before Anna second loss at the Wimbledon. One clubgoer says, "There was
a lot of smooching and cuddling going on. Enrique was all over her, with
his hands wandering in and out of her dress. Staff who had to serve them
drinks were very embarrassed." The pair spent the night together and perhaps
the lack of sleep led to her loss the next day.
July 6, 2002 - The New York
Daily News reports Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova shared a hotel
room at central London hotel on Wednesday. Anna didn't leave the hotel
until 7:30 am the next morning, enjoying a night that perhaps helped her
to win her Wimbledon women’s doubles quarter-final match on Thursday.
July 3, 2002 - Anna Kournikova
was #6 on the Lycos 50 for the last week following the aborted interview
with the BBC after her first round loss last week. Meanwhile, leggy Slovakian
star Daniela Hantuchova touted as the "next Anna" made her debut on the

rumored fling with Enrique Iglesias may have cooled as the New York Daily
News reports her on-off boyfriend and Detroit Red Wings star Sergei Federov
was spotted celebrating her 21st birthday and comforted her in England
after her first round Wimbledon loss.
July 1, 2002 - Anna Kournikova's
doubles partner Chanda Rubin hit back against criticism of the Russian
pin-up on Friday, saying there was no need for women's tennis to begin
and end with sex appeal.

admits she might not have the brashness to be part of the tennis elite.
"Maybe I'm not cocky enough to be a top player," Kournikova said. "I don't
think that has anything obviously to do with me because obviously I'm not
a top player right now."
