January 30, 2002 - Bill Zwecker of the Chicago Sun Times reports dancers at Lou Conte Dance Studio of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago were shocked last week to see Britney Spears enter the studio. Britney was there to rehearse for the Pepsi commercial.

January 30, 2002 - Britney Spears official site news section has a story claiming that according to entertainment news sources, Sir Elton is interested in playing Britney’s father in his next video. They quote Elton saying, "If we do it, my personal favorite would be Britney Spears. I want to play her dad in the video. That would be incredible. It'll be along the lines of … I won't let her out and she wants to go to the concert and she runs away." Read more.

January 30, 2002 - The New York Daily News reports Mariah Carey's rep Cindi Berger has responded to recent tabloid claims that the singer is distraught and "gone into hiding" at a Palm Springs spa calling them "absolutely ridiculous." Berger explained, "She's there with some friends to have saunas and facials and herbal wraps. She's just there to relax and get pampered." They also mention Mariah's brother Morgan almost got into a fight with comic actor Jamie Foxx when he joked about Mariah. Read more.

January 29, 2002 - Lynne Spears gave fans a new update on the activities of her daughter Britney. As we said Sunday Britney had taken off for a vacation after last week a long commercial shoot that Lynne described as, "The holiday site was beautiful with crystal blue waters, lush foliage, a luxurious hotel and absolutely no schedule." January 29, 2002 - Y-100 reports Britney Spears told her 'Crossroads' co-star Kim Catrell that she'd love to appear on the show. When Kim told producers they loved the idea and had writers come up with two episodes. Unfortunately, when Britney's management found out, they said 'No way.' Britney then used the excuse that she was 'Too busy' and wouldn't be able to do it. The producers were furious. They are thinking of billing her for those two scripts an amount of $30,000.

January 27, 2002 - Jonathan Takiff of the Philadelphia Daily News profiled the continuing tend of pop stars crossing over into film. Takiff examined the successes and failures of Mandy Moore, Eminem, Mariah Carey, *NSYNC, Britney Spears, and Madonna. Takiff said, "Even though 'Glitter' and 'On the Line' bombed badly at the box office and soundtrack chart, and the advance word on Spears' road trip isn't promising much besides the chance to see the pop queen in a wet T-shirt, these low-budget films are all likely to recoup their relatively slight investments through home video, airline and TV showings." January 26, 2002 - MuchMusic reports an unwashed glass that Britney Spears drank orange juice from during an interview is being 'toured' around Germany where at the end if it's tour, will be given to a 'lucky' fan, who will get the opporunity to drink the orange juice Britney never finished.

January 25, 2002 - Star reports britney Spears intends to dress up as a guy in her next video, as she lately has been experimenting with makeup and hair and clothing to disguise her sexy figure. Meanwhile, she wants boyfriend Justin Timberlake of *NSYNC to guest star in the video as a woman. While initially having reservations about appearing in drag, Justin thinks it might be fun and will probably go along with the idea.

January 25, 2002 - Lynne Spears posted a new update to on her daughter's official site. Lynne says Britney gave her a late night surprise on her European tour saying, "Britney called me two nights this week from Europe. She makes me laugh, because she always forgets the time change. Brit called at 1:50 AM one morning and 4:00 AM the other time. She apologizes for about five minutes, then we have a nice chat for about thirty minutes. It's a good thing I can go back to sleep easily! We have to check in with each other at least every other day." Read more.

January 24, 2002 - Worldpop spoke with O-Town's Jacob Underwood who revealed the group's reality based TV show helps kids define what is real and what is false. He said, "False hope is when you put up a picture of Britney Spears and tell kids she looks like that naturally. That's the false hope." Read more.

January 24, 2002 - Pagesix.com reports Prince William last year had been trading e-mails with Britney Spears and had planned a date after a series of e-mails as British comic Frank Skinner, who interviewed Britney revealed. Skinner said, "They were meant to go for a meal but... he went fox hunting instead."

January 23, 2002 - MTV Europe reports Britney Spears and her mother are in talks to turn their book "A Mothers Gift" into a TV show. Britney revealed, "We're making the book into a TV series and the story is very, very cool. Some parts are autobiographical -- but we wanted to use our imagination."

January 23, 2002 - Reuters reports Britney Spears told reporters at the Carlton hotel press conference held over the weekend that she's not fazed by the alleged laughter that greeted the picture at a critics' screening in London, saying, "Everything the critics like I hate." Read more.

January 23, 2002 - Y-100 reports that after reading that Britney Spears was allergic to lilies, she decided to send Britney a $140 bouquet at the Top of the Pops show the two appeared on. Apparently the whole time Britney was being interviewed she was sneezing uncontrollably, which caused Pink to nearly pee her pants in laughter.

January 22, 2002 - Worldpop talked with Pink in an exclusive interview to get her thoughts on the supposed news that Britney stormed out of London hotel St Martin's Lane after she discovered that she was staying there. Pink said that after her Top of the Pops appearance Spears, "Came in and I gave her flowers and she thanked me. She was tiny and cute and cool. If she does hate me then she's a good liar." January 22, 2002 - Britney Spears' great aunt who lives in Northolt, Middlesex, UK told the Telegraph, "Britney no longer seems interested in us. She would have been very welcome to pop around and see us, but my little house probably isn't good enough for her these days." 

January 22, 2002 - During Britney Spears visit to France over the weekend, the singer was on Britain's ITV Saturday morning music show "CD:UK" that she and *NSYNC's Just Timberlake will marry. Britney said to host Cat Deeley, "It will happen some time in the future, but not this year." 

January 21, 2002 - The Sun reports Britney Spears is in talks to invest in the already twice bankrupt Planet Hollywood restaurant chain. Britney met with top chef Marco Pierre White while in London to discuss a Britney menu. As part of the deal she will make personal appearances at the eateries but she will have nothing to do with the business side.

January 21, 2002 - Dido won two awards at the NRJ Awards in Cannes on Saturday, with Jennifer Lopez getting best female artist. Other winners included Britney Spears, who also performed 'Slave 4 U' at the show, while Michael Jackson was presented best male star by Spears. January 20, 2002 - Britney Spears interview with Jamie from Radio 1 is archived on their website along with a transcript, where the singer spoke about the gossip item that had Britney comparing chocolate to an orgasm. Britney revealed, "I do like chocolate. I went to a chocolate factory and did an interview there and they asked me 'isn't chocolate like an orgasmic feeling'? I said chocolate and sneezing. January 20, 2002 - Yahoo UK reports Britney Spears and UK presenter Frank Skinner performed the Sonny and Cher hit, I Got You Babe, after she was interviewed for the ITV show, which will hit UK airwaves on January 26. January 20, 2002 - Allpop's Stephanie McGrath spoke with horeographer, producer, and writer Wade Robson on working with Britney Spears and *NSYNC. Wade talked about creating 'Gone' with Justin Timberlake revealing, "We just really clicked musically right away. I'd be sitting at the keyboard playing something and he'd start to say 'Go and do this', and I'd be doing it. [We were] finishing each other's sentences." Read more.

January 19, 2002 - Peoplenews.com reports a spokeswoman for Top Of The Pops revealed that Britney Spears was no diva during her appearance on the show, unlike Jennifer Lopez. January 19, 2002 - Television network E! had a special announcing their list of the 25 Sexiest Women in Entertainment and amongst the top 10 on the list was Britney Spears at number 5. Jennifer Lopez topped the list.

January 19, 2002 - The Daily Mail reports Jive Records had to shell out £100,000 for Britney and her 20 person entourage for her two day trip to London. Included in the tab was a private jet at £72,000, 29 rooms at the St Martins Lane Hotel for her handlers, and a £9,400 room at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge, where the pop princess herself stayed. January 19, 2002 - Britney Spears two day visit to the UK began with the singer ordering a plate of fish, chips and mushy peas. The singer became a big fan of the traditional British dish on her previous visit to the country, according to the UK Star. She also treated her 20 person entourage to the same treat. January 19, 2002 - Peoplenews.com reports bodyguards for Britney Spears manhandled a photographer as the singer's cavalcade of cars pulled up outside Planet Hollywood in Piccadilly. When the freelance photographer approached, one of Britney's bodyguards told him, "I'll slit your f***ing throat before you get away with those pictures." The photgrapher was then grabbed by his jacket and thrown against a wall before escaping. Read more.

January 19, 2002 - Katrillion reports Britney Spears was said to be outraged when she learned Pink was staying at the same St. Martin's Lane hotel in London as she was, and immediately decided to reserve a spot at the Imperial Suite at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge. Many wonder if it was because of Pink's recent claims she'd like to sleep with her boyfriend Justin Timberlake, or laughing off claims that Britney is a virgin, or her new single that includes the line, "Tired of being compared/ To damn Britney Spears/ She's so pretty/ That just ain't me."

January 18, 2002 - The Globe reports that during Britney Spears and her *NSYNC boyfriend Justin Timberlake's trip to a gay club in New York, a bunch of lesbian women were giving Britney the eye. A witness said, "She was fantastic. She was getting a lot of attention from the girls and a lot of them were flirting with her. Obviously, she wasn't interested. Still, she was really nice to everybody who came up to her. But there was this huge lesbian girl who kept staring at her. When she made a move toward her, Britney's bodyguards immediately intervened."

January 18, 2002 - Britney Spears will be interviewed and perform for the Oprah show. The show will be taped in Chicago on January 23rd.

January 18, 2002 - Christina Milian talked to the BBC's Radio 1 about the constant comparisons people are drawing to her and Britney Spears. Milian explained why she wasn't the urban version of Spears saying, "I think our music is different. January 18, 2002 - Michael Musto of the Village Voice spoke with Aaron Carter over the phone where he talked about whether Britney Spears may have ripped of his 'Not Too Young, Not Too Old' with her new 'I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman' track, Aaron said he'd thought about that before "because the chorus is kind of similar. January 18, 2002 - Reuters reports security levels at the BBC studios where Britney Spears will be filmed were said to be at unprecedented levels with a spokeswoman revealing, "We wouldn't comment on security measures but she is a huge star and we will look after her accordingly." January 18, 2002 - Reuters reports Britney Spears shopped around Hyde Park with two beefy bodyguards ahead of her show Friday on Top of the Pops. Britney will sing two versions of her song 'Overprotected' in different costumes, and one version of her next single 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman.' Afterwards, she'll be interviewed by Jamie Theakston.

January 17, 2002 - Nick Parker of The Sun reports Britney Spears stunned onlookers while she toured a German chocolate museum with a shocking admission. When Britney was handed a white chocolate heart as she finished the tour she sighed, "Chocolate for me is just like an orgasm!" Read more.

January 17, 2002 - Britney Spears tells the new issue of Cosmo that she appears on the cover of that after she saw her boyfriend Justin Timberlake in the *NSYNC video for Gone the first time, she was "devastated" over the watching her boyfriend make out with the woman on the video. Britney said, "You could have just taken a knife and stabbed me." Apparently, Britney was so upset when she saw the video that she stormed into a bathroom and didn't speak to anyone for a while. Eventually, she and Justin talked it over and decided that the best solution was for her not to watch videos that upset her.

January 16, 2002 - Wade Robson tells the Scottish Daily Record that he inspires Britney's sexually charged dances through dirty talk. Robson admits, "I get to drive Britney's sexual energy into her performances - she tells me fantasies and we interpret them." Robson also credited Britney's workout ethic saying, "I never need to tell Britney to keep in shape before we work together because she is so disciplined . . . whenever she has spare time, she'll lie on the floor and start doing crunches without a second thought."

January 15, 2002 - Readers of Stuff magazine have dubbed Britney Spears as the "Sexiest Woman in the World," where the pop princess beat out Latin diva Jennifer Lopez, who nabbed the #2 spot. The mag said of Britney, "Spears is so hot she may be a bigger threat to the environment than global warming." Shakira also appeared in the top 10 grabbed the #9 spot. Further back was Mandy Moore at #67.

January 15, 2002 - WorldOnline reports those in London at a preview screening of Britney Spears' new film 'Crossroads' were left in hysterics at moments of the film they weren't supposed to be laughing at, similarly to reaction at Mariah Carey's film 'Glitter'. When Britney's character Lucy began reading lyrics to 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman', the laughter spread through the cinema, to such an extent that the final lines were inaudible above the noise. January 15, 2002 - Peoplenews.com reports the Independent Television Commission has ordered Frank Skinner to keep his interview with Britney Spears clean or it will be immediately stopped if he asks her any inappropriate questions. Britney's spokesperson said, "It is a pre-recorded show. I don't think he'd be so stupid as to treat her in the same way as Boy George. They're different propositions and he managed to interview Charlotte Church without a problem, so it should be OK."

January 15, 2002 - Cosmopolitan magazine has selected Britney Spears as their most Fun Fearless Female of the year, while also mentioning Beyonce Knowles and Nelly Furtado. Editor in Chief Kate White said in a statement, "Britney Spears exemplifies that a woman can be sexy, smart and powerful all at once, the accomplishments of Britney on the music scene, as well as the successes of this year’s other Fun Fearless Females, make us proud to honor these women as representatives of what Cosmopolitan stands for." January 13, 2002 - Rapsheet.com's Alan C. Page talked with Mystikal on his feelings about being on the hip-hop turned pop label, Jive Records. Mystikal says their influence is great for his publicity appearances, "I definitely don’t have a problem going to the radio station. Britney Spears gon’ stop that. Backstreet and *NSYNC. January 13, 2002 - Jose Labiet of the Star reports that according to a Victoria's Secret clerk at Denver's upscale Cherry Creek Mall, pop princess Britney Spears is one of the store's clients and when she purchases her bras, she goes for a size 38C.

January 13, 2002 - AP Music writer Nekesa Mumbi Moody profiled the excessive self promotion by musicians at the American Music Awards and last year's MTV Video Music Awards. Moody pointed at Backstreet and Britney saying, "Backstreet Boy members Nick Carter and Kevin Richardson began their presenting duties by showcasing their new protege, the virtually unknown Krystal, who inexplicably burst into song before announcing the next award. And Spears' performance of her latest single, 'I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,' was prefaced by a clip from her upcoming movie, "'Crossroads.' " Read more.

January 13, 2002 - The Top of The Pops show on BBC was to feature Britney Spears later this month but fans got the bad news on the show's website saying, "We're very sorry to tell you Britney fans that next week's special has been postponed. Britney's just so busy that she's had to put off the one-hour spesh until later in the year. Rest assured that we'll let you have all the details as soon as we can."

January 13, 2002 - A recently released marketing plan for Britney Spears in 2002, stated that "Lonely" was to be third single followed by "Anticipating." Spears isn't scheduled for a new album until Fall 2003. There may be however, a remix album later in the year from which Britney is to release her fifth single.

January 13, 2002 - Britney Spears recently completed the video for "Overprotected," the European follow-up to "I'm a Slave For You." The video can be streamed at Britney.com or BritneySpears.com. As to whether the video will be released in the US the answer is most likely NO as the next single is scheduled to be "Lonely."

A pal of Britney told the tabloid, "Britney jokes about not taking her sex books out of the house. She says, 'I don't want Justin to know I'm learning to be a tiger in bed. January 12, 2002 - Elton John and *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake were on MTV's Total Request Live on Friday where the pair premiered 'This Train Don't Stop There Anymore' and quized each other. When asked what Justin's most prized possession was by Elton, an audience member screamed 'Britney' causing Justin to blast, "That's not a possesion, you don't posses women, that's wrong man!" His answer was "My voice."

January 12, 2002 - The Boston Herald reports Danzel Neal, a former maid for the Ritz-Carlton in Boston says she lost her job because she complained when one of Britney Spears' bodyguards flashed her. When the maid knocked before entering, the guard was naked and gave her a come-hither look, prompting Neal to call Spears to complain. Neal called a second time threatening to get a lawyer if Britney didn't apologize and when Britney relayed the story to the hotel's management, the maid was fired. The axed maid said, "All I wanted was for Britney to say, 'I'm sorry it happened, it will never happen again.'"

January 11, 2002 - Access Hollywood reported Thursday that to Britney Spears and *NSYNC boyfriend Justin Timberlake are hosting a Super Bowl party February 3rd at Planet Hollywood in New York City. Guests can bid on items like a cameo in Britney's video. Proceeds benefit the singers' respective charities.

January 11, 2002 - Peoplenews.com reports Britney Spears is set to make her first British talk show appearance in a special edition of the Frank Skinner show. Skinner said of the opportunity to interview Spears later this month, "I'm really chuffed to be interviewing Britney. The big question is will she put her career on the line and do a song with me at the end of the show?" As for Britney she said, "I can't wait to come to the UK and meet Frank; I hear he's a bit of a superstar and can be a bit cheeky." ...Cheeky? Is Britney learning Brit-speak like her idol Madonna?

January 11, 2002 - Access Hollywood's Tony Potts talked with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake about the controversy going on with Michael Jackson and his appearances on the American Music Awards and it's effect on a Grammy Award appearance. Britney said, "I think it is kind of cool that they separate the two so like that, you know. If you perform on one, you shouldn't perform on the other, because they're both amazing, and the audience wants to be surprised on each one." This prompted her *NSYNC date Justin Timberlake to say, "Another perspective... And that's the way we see it." 

January 10, 2002 - The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Gemma Tarlach put out a guide Wednesday with odds on whether Britney Spears will show this year whether she's still got it or doomed to be forgotten. Tarlach puts Britney's odds for success at 4 to 1 saying, "Spears works hard, granted, but so do hamsters huffin' on their little wheels. A bright but vacuous smile and prolific booty-shaking have served her well, but for any hope of a long-term career, Spears has to start showing more than skin." Read more.

Online's Ted Casablanca reports Britney Spears and her *NSYNC boyfriend Justin Timberlake were spotted with a bodyguard on a flight from Memphis to New York City, flying Northwest Airlines. January 9, 2002 - Debra Goldman of Adweek is sounding off on Britney Spears and her popularity that just won't go away. Goldman says, "Nothing seems to incite Britney rage like the Virgin Thing. Her claim of chastity, which was perfectly plausible when she embarked on pop stardom at 16, has become more incendiary as her bra-cup size has increased and her act has become more suitable for a strip club. The sheer brazenness of using a claim of sexual innocence to sell titillation drives Britney's critics nuts."

January 8, 2002 - Entertainment Weekly spoke with actor Anson Mount, who was lucky enough to have a kissing scene with Britney Spears in her new movie 'Crossroads.' The 28 year-old actor admitted he played a gag on Britney during their big scene saying, "After we kissed a couple times, I took a big spoonful of minced garlic and washed it around my mouth real good. When we did the scene, Brit amazingly kept a straight face. After they yelled 'Cut,' I asked her, 'Did you even taste that?' And she goes, 'Oh, sweetie, I just didn't want to hurt your feelings.'''

January 6, 2002 - Britney Spears and other artists to be announced will perform at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on February 9 for the "The NBA All-Star Read to Achieve Celebration," according to Spears' spokesperson. NBC, TNT, Nickelodeon, BET, NBA.comTV and Canada's MuchMusic will broadcast the special live simultaneously at 11 a.m. ET. "NBA Inside Stuff" co-hosts Ahmad Rashad and Summer Sanders will co-host the program.

January 6, 2002 - For those wondering why Britney Spears latest album 'Britney' nor any of its singles were nominated for Grammy Awards Friday, the cut off date for eligibility was September 29, 2001... Britney's album was released November 6. This was why OutKast, for example, got grammy nominations from 'Stankonia' released in October 2000. 

January 6, 2002 - The New York Post reports Britney Spears and *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake were spotted at the Four Seasons in Maui, likely where the couple are staying on their vacation.

January 6, 2002 - Pagesix.com reports Britney Spears and her *NSYNC boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, were thrown a private party on New Year's Eve by Britney's brother Brian. The party was held at Chateau, a club that isn't even open to the public until next month. Britney and Justin were spotted making out and dancing on tables, according to spies.

January 6, 2002 - Evelyn McDonnell of the Miami Herald put together New Year's resolutions of the stars in what she wished they'd had said and included the following of Britney Spears; "I resolve to stumble across copies of classic feminist texts The Feminine Mystique and Backlash and suddenly -- at last -- get a clue. January 5, 2002 - BBC reports Britney Spears' new movie 'Crossroads' will see it's European premiere at France's Midem music conference later this month in Cannes. While there, she'll also hold a press conference and perform at the NRJ Music Awards alongside Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Geri Halliwell and Dido.

January 5, 2002 - Bill Zwecker of The Chicago Sun Times reports sources that have seen Britney Spears' new flick 'Crossroads' say it is ''clearly pushing the envelope as Madonna did when she was in her 20s." Zwecker also said the ''about-to-get-married'' rumor frequently reported between her and *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake is making the rounds again.

January 5, 2002 - The New York Post spoke with charts guru for Billboard magazine Geoff Mayfield who weighed in on the year end album sales figures which saw *NSYNC hit the #3 spot with 'Celebrity' shipping 4.4 million units and Britney Spears' 'Britney' which sold 2.9 million to land at #14. Mayfield said, "Everyone's anxious to see the pop bubble burst. They don't sell like they did a year ago - but most acts would like to sell as much as they do." Read more.

Britney Spears and *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake arrived in Kentwood Christmas Eve and spent most of the holidays there before departing to New York City. Britney will have a busy year but will always schedule time for her family and Justin."

January 4, 2001 - Anonymous writes "Britney Spears and Carson Daly will host MTV's first ever Mardi Gras special to be taped during the New Orleans event and aired on Feb 16 at 1pm on MTV." Note: Remember Britney will also have her Crossroads premiere New Orleans as well during the ultra busy Superbowl - Mardi Gras period.

January 4, 2001 - Jay Leno did a celebrity photo quiz with random people in Los Angeles and when Jay showed a photo of Britney Spears, she guessed correctly and Jay asked, "She's famous for being what?" The woman replied, "Sleaze." Jay said, "Oh, she's a virgin sleaze." She said, "I don't get that. I think that's great that she's a virgin. But I don't get why she's a PT, like a PT virgin." Jay asked, "What's a PT?" She replied, "A pr*ck tease."

January 4, 2001 - Britney Spears phoned into MTV's Total Request Live on Thursday as part of a promotion for 'Crossroads'. As one of our news submitters posted yesterday, she and *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake flew in from New York to extend their vacation in Hawaii. Britney said she was hanging out at the beach and later was planning to go horseback riding.

January 3, 2002 - Ananova reports an X-Rated D12 T-Shirt featuring Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera was 2001's top selling garment item at HMV. January 3, 2002 - Anonymous writes "Early Tuesday morning [New Year's Day] shortly before 8:30 a.m., *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears were seen departing New York City at JFK airport. Behind 2 bodyguards they walked through another side entrance to security holding hands followed by a few other people. Justin was in front wearing jeans and a hat and Brit was slightly behind in jeans also. They were on a flight to Hawaii with a stop in Los Angeles."

January 3, 2002 - The New York Post reports Britney Spears and *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake were spotted bumping and grinding at Cheetah's Sunday night gay party, where they partied it up until 4 a.m. The couple dropped by to celebrate the new release of Inaya Day, "Can't Stop Dancing."

January 1, 2002 - Jay Leno joked during his monologue on Friday saying, "Hey, here's a bargain for you. For a small monthly fee, Britney Spears will offer updates on her life, directly to your cell phone. Well, I got to get this. Yeah Britney Spears, directly to your cell phone. January 1, 2002 - News of the World reports Britney Spears has told a friend that she and her *NSYNC boyfriend Justin Timberlake have 'great sex'. The couple also spent three nights in a suite in Rio ealier in the month.

January 1, 2002 - The New York Daily News reports Britney Spears and each member of *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys will receive about $5,000 in free merchandise for their appearance at the American Music Awards on January 9. Included in the package will be an electric scooter (Segway?), a video-game system, a digital camera/camcorder, an environmental waterfall, a Fossil watch and an electronic body massager.
