June 30, 2002 - The Sun reports *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake failed to show at the opening of Britney Spears' new restaurant Nyla in New York on Thursday, as many A-list stars missed the bash because of the torrential rainstorm. Worse yet, Britney had to endure chants of "Justin Justin" from rain-soaked fans when they were ignored when she arrived. The media wasn't much kinder, booing Spears after she gave the press very little time. Read more.

June 30, 2002 - nika writes "Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are signing a petition against Britney Spears. They don't want her to appear in BTVS for 6 episode's. One fan said, "Absolutely not! No way does a fabricated 'pop queen' with absolutely no acting talent or merit in any other manner deserve to appear on Buffy! The show has never used such a cheap idea of having a celebrity on it before, so why now and why her of all people? I am not even willing to see that pop whore appear on the show as a corpse! June 30, 2002 - While Christina Milian takes comparisons to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera as a compliment, she makes sure to distinguish herself from the pop stars. "I understand the comparison, and it's a compliment for me," she tells Hera Diani of The Jakarta Post. "Both of them are great artists. Britney is a great performer and Christina has a great voice. But at the same time, of course I want to be recognized as an artist. Besides, I write all of my music because writing is a huge aspect for me. You can see many performers are doing lipsync and remaking other people's songs... I don't want to do that. I want to be original and write my own songs." Read more.

June 30, 2002 - Amy Amatangelo of the Boston Globe reviewed Britney Spears' concert at the FleetCenter last night conceding that even though she was lip-synching, Britney put on a good show. "Without any audible breathing sounds, it's hard to believe the girl with the best hair extensions in show business actually was singing live," Amy explained. "But who cares? She's an entertaining and engaging performer. People came to see Britney do her thing and that's exactly what she did." Read more.

June 29, 2002 - Jay Leno joked during his Tonight Show monologue on Friday, "Finally, Britney Spears' new restaurant opened up in New York, called Nyla, N-Y-L-A. Pretty fancy place. I understand the breast of chicken have implants and all the waiters lip-sync."

June 29, 2002 - Maki Becker of the New York Daily News was on hand at the thunderstorm hampered opening of Britney Spears' new restaurant Nyla on E.41st St. last night. "I love New York," Britney said before entering. "The energy here is so good." June 29, 2002 - Conan O'Brien joked during his Late Night monologue Thursday: "Earlier this evening, in Manhattan, Britney Spears hosted a party to open her brand-new restaurant. Britney's got a restaurant, yeah. Yeah, you can tell it's Britney's place because nobody ever gets inside."

June 28, 2002 - Britney Spears phoned in to Quddus on MTV's Total Request Live on Monday where she talked about the opening of her new restaurant Nyla tonight, her role in 'Austin Powers Goldmember', and to introduce her new video 'Boys' which debuted on TRL today. Read here for a transcript.

June 28, 2002 - Beth Kassab of Knight Ridder NASCAR vice president Paul Brooks on their alliance with Britney Spears to debut their first official NASCAR film in 2004. Explaining the decision to cast Spears as the star of the first flick, Brooks said, "She's a cultural phenomenon who we think can introduce the sport to more and more people. June 28, 2002 - Not exactly the celebrity packed opening that was touted ahead of Britney Spears' opening of her new restaurant Nyla, but some managed to stroll into the event. June 28, 2002 - Michael Johnson of Natural checked in with fans on the group's official website Monday. He talked about their appearances in Germany and how interviewers had been focusing on Marc Terenzi's rumored romance with Britney Spears. June 27, 2002 - The New York Post reports Britney Spears is spending $300,000 on tonight's grand opening of Nyla in the Dylan Hotel. Much of the money is going towards security, since 1000's of Britney's fans are expected for the event. Lionel Ritchie, Whitney Houston and Adam Sandler are amongst the celebrities expected to be there.

June 27, 2002 - Anonymous writes "I just got back from the Britney Spears show in Buffalo and the NBC cameras taped the Coed Remix version of 'Boys' for the fourth of July special on NBC. The cool thing was that Pharrell Williams from N.E.R.D. came out on stage and sang it with her."

June 27, 2002 - Jane Stevenson of the Toronto Sun reviewed Britney Spears concert at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton on Tuesday. Stevenson said, "Thousands of her screaming, mostly young female fans were treated to plenty of video vignettes, flames, explosions and fireworks." June 26, 2002 - Jennifer Caldwell of The Hamilton Spectator took her 10-year-old sister to the Britney Spears' Dream Within A Dream 2002 Tour stop at Copps Coliseum last night, which was was Nina's first concert. Jennifer explained, "As Spears thanked the audience for being 'really, really good,' I thought about how Nina would always remember that her big sister took her to her first concert." She added, "Judging from the look of awe in my sister's dark brown eyes and considering that Nina confessed that now she wants to be as famous as Britney when she grows up, well, I don't think Spears' magic has worn off just yet." June 26, 2002 - Launch.com reports Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias, James Taylor, and Ray Charles will perform on the NBC special, The Macy's 4th Of July Fireworks Spectacular in New York City, live from 9 to 10 p.m. on the east coast, taped in other zones. Read more.

June 26, 2002 - In Lynne Spears update on her daughter's official site Monday, she finally said something in her updates about longtime husband Jamie, and it sounds encouraging for those worried that Britney Spears' parents might be getting divorced. Lynne writes, "Jamie, Jamie Lynn, Sara (one of Jamie Lynn's friends) and I went to Venice beach this weekend. We had so much fun watching the bicycle and skateboard contests. We walked to the beach to lay out after the contest. The sun was warm, yet there was a cool breeze. Later that evening, we needed sweaters. June 25, 2002 - Jason Misner of The Hamilton Spectator chatted with Britney Spears fans before her concert at a sold-out Copps Coliseum tonight. 9-year-old Nicole Alchin said quickly, "She sings really good songs and she's really cool and is really pretty and she wears really cool clothes and has cool dance moves." June 25, 2002 - Alyssa Rosenberg of Lexington High School submitted an editorial to StudentDiscourse.com focusing on Britney Spears former dual identity. Rosenberg writes, "Whether she is aware of it or not, Ms. Spears once seemed like the polar opposite of a feminist. Her performances sold her body more than her songs. Her lyrics sometimes seemed to speak of sexual violence and domination-'Hit me, baby'? 'I'm a Slave 4 U'? Often, Ms. Spears seemed the perfect product of the majority-male music industry, an eminently purchase-able fantasy. June 24, 2002 - Tim Haddock of the Los Angeles Daily News sounded off on news that Britney Spears and NASCAR announced plans to team up for a movie, calling the move "the sixth sign of the apocalypse." Haddock added, "I am struggling with what could have inspired Britney to want to produce - her company, Britney Spears Productions, is a partner in the project - a NASCAR movie. June 24, 2002 - Dozens of fans from the JJB board bombarded popdirt.com with reports that Britney Spears had rebounded from her Justin Timberlake romance with fellow *NSYNC'er JC Chasez. June 24, 2002 - Kevin C. Johnson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reviewed Britney Spears' concert at the Savvis Center Saturday night calling her lip-synched performance a "90-minute blowout." Johnson writes, "The concert, as expected and necessitated, epitomized the pop music spectacle, from the fireworks, flames and lasers, the hyped-up dance troupe, the never-ending costume changes no young girl should be allowed to see, and the props and frills, etc. You name it, it was there." June 23, 2002 - Anonymous writes "After waiting impatiently to see Britney perform live in St. Louis, I left the concert with disappointment. First Britney Spears kept fans waiting impatiently for the show to start, many fans were wondering if the concert was going to be canceled. Fans wondered if Britney was upset over the many videos played of exboyfriend Justin Timberlake of *NSYNC songs 'Pop', and 'Girlfriend' before the show even started. June 23, 2002 - Leigh Mytton of BBC News recently chatted with Christina Milian on working with Jennifer Lopez and on hanging out with Britney Spears. On Spears, she stated "We get on well. June 23, 2002 - Following word of Britney Spears' sister getting a role on Nickelodeon's 'All That', a pal of Jamie Lynn Spears tells the Sun, "She is overjoyed with this part. It’s no secret that she wants to be as big, if not bigger, than Britney. Britney herself has admitted that Jamie Lynn has a better singing voice and in the next few years it’s going to be quite a competition to see who becomes the most famous Spears sister." Read more.

June 23, 2002 -  Eric Asimov of The New York Times profiled Britney Spears' new restaurant Nyla which has been opened for about a week now. Asimov said, "For Nyla and Spears to succeed, she will have to recalibrate her image to draw in the grown-ups, or at least those fans who are of legal drinking age. Nyla, after all, is no theme restaurant. While Spears's name may hang in the air and on the lips of patrons, the restaurant bears no trace of her: no pictures, platinum records or discarded concert costumes here." June 23, 2002 - The Sunday People reports Britney Spears was recently in tears on a flight across America, though it had nothing to do with her break-up with *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake. Britney told the flight crew that she'd just had dental surgery and was in agony as the painkiller wore off. They gave her several aspirin.

June 23, 2002 - Thursday's editorial in The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal focused on Britney Spears' cancelled show last week due to the failure of the United Spirit Arena's main transformer. The paper writes, "It is impossible to undo what happened, but it is possible to find and fix problems and potential problems. If the equipment needs to be beefed up so that it will not be stretched to the limit again, that is what should be done. We appreciate [Jim Bush's (the arena's technical director)] determination to do just that." Read more.

June 23, 2002 - Ray Glass of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal was there when fans lined up to return their Britney Spears tickets in the Memphis Place Mall Wednesday on word that the singer's concert in Lubbock, Texas would not be rescheduled. Albert Rivera of Lubbock, one of those in the line that was nearly 100 persons deep commented, "At least you're getting your money back." As for his 11-year-old sister, "She's still pretty upset." June 23, 2002 - David Lindquist of the Indianapolis Star reviewed the Britney Spears stop at Conseco Fieldhouse on Friday. Lindquist writes, "As Spears' career progresses, it's increasingly evident that she owes plenty to Janet Jackson. June 23, 2002 - Joshua Howes of Metromix chatted with adult fans who checked out Britney Spears' show Thursday night at the United Center without kids in tow. While some were too embarrassed to reveal their names and some felt out of place, they were a sizable portion of the audience. 23-year-old Erica Marciniak explained, "We love to see her dance, and we like her clothes. We love the music. It's fun!" Her 22-year-old pal Julie Chessna explained, "I mean, you could spend $60 at a bar, or you could spend $60 on entertainment for the night." Read more.

June 22, 2002 - Garbage singer Shirley Manson is excited on this leg of the group's tour now that she has something she's never had before. Shirley writes, "Played the first show on our European leg in Salamanca last night... discovered much to my delight upon stepping onto our tourbus for the first time that I was to have my very own room! Did you get that? My own room! In a BUS! Ha ha ha ha... I feel like Britney Spears! I have toured my whole life and I have NEVER EVER had my own room. And not only do I have my own room but it has a double bed in it! Usually I'm in a single bunk, deep in a galley full of ten men or so! I feel like a princess! I'm TOTALLY over the moon about it!" June 22, 2002 - Launch.com reports that contrary to persistent rumors of a feud between her and Britney Spears, Columbian singer Shakira continues to reassure fans that there is nothing but healthy competition between the two stars. "I love her--she's a doll! I met her and she's really sweet, so I wish her the best," Shakira said. Read more.

June 22, 2002 - US Weekly reports Britney Spears has been having trouble dealing with her break-up to Justin Timberlake and his dating Jenna Dewan. An insider said, "Britney has been writing three songs, and each of them is because of [Justin and Jenna]." As for Timberlake, he is reportedly recording a song called 'Move Past You' for his solo debut. His label denied that the *NSYNC star is writing a song with that title though.

June 21, 2002 - Nathan Young, 23, a senior at Webster University contributed a story to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch recounting his time growing up in Kentwood and hanging out with Britney Spears - though never becoming close friends with the young girl that became one of the biggest celebrities on the planet. Young said, "Now, hardly a day goes by that I don't think about Britney. Whenever I see her on television, I wonder what could have been. I still see her as that nice, shy girl I knew back in Kentwood. To think that I could have counted her as one of my friends today would have definitely been cool. Had I only realized who was sitting next to me in the movie theater on that fateful night, my life might be a little different." Read more.

June 21, 2002 - Eric Williams of the Cape Cod Times checked out the dozens of wannabe Britneys that showed up to the Cape Cod Mall Wednesday to take part in a Britney Spears look-alike contest where winners received tickets to her show at the FleetCenter in Boston on June 29th."Everybody loves Britney," said contestant Adri Torres, 20, of Yarmouthport, before hitting the stage. "She's got the moves, she's got the looks. This is what teenage America wants." Torres ended up winning the contest. Read more.

June 21, 2002 - Entertainment Weekly spoke with 'American Idol' judge Simon Cowell, known as Mr. Nasty. When asked which of today's successful pop starswouldn't pass his audition, Cowell responded, "Britney Spears. She had one of the best pop songs written for her of all time ['...Baby One More Time']. Whoever got that record was going to have a massive hit. Without that song, we wouldn't have seen her in the same way." Read more.

June 21, 2002 - Britney Spears topped Forbes Power 100 list for celebrities which combines earnings with media exposure to calculate the relative status of entertainment's top stars. While her money rank was on #25, her internet popularity and magazine covers helped propel her over golfer Tiger Woods and director Steven Spielberg. June 21, 2002 - TeenHollywood.com reports that while Britney Spears' most treasured wardrobe item is a pair of Marilyn Monroe's old jeans, she hasn't been able to wear them. "Her hips were very big and her waist very petite," she said. "I was thinking about doing something to them so they would fit me - like cutting the waist off - and then, 'I thought I can't mess with her jeans!'"

June 21, 2002 - Lil' Kim was on Last Call with Carson Daly on Wednesday, where they spent much of the broadcast talking about some of her memorable outfits worn to events. June 20, 2002 - The National Enquirer has more details on the Justin Timberlake hook-up with Christina Aguilera at Hollywood hangout Joseph's on June 3rd. Britney Spears had went to the club to keep an eye on her former boyfriend hoping to rekindle their romance, but Justin was cold towards her the entire night. According to a source, "At one point, Justin got up and headed for the bathroom and ran into Christina, looking great in ghetto chic. He was overjoyed to see her, and they hugged, kissed, and talked animatedly. Now that Justin is back on the dating circuit, he looked at Christina in a whole new way." Read more.

June 20, 2002 - Jeannette Walls of MSNBC reports a source on Britney Spears' current tour says the singer is in a "deep funk" after her breakup with *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake. The source said, "She has been really depressed due to the breakup and just wants this tour to be over. There were even points during the show when she would not bother to lip-sync to the track the audience was hearing... as if she did not even care." The source also reports Spears' handlers are upset over the fact that she hasn't been interacting with fans more on the current tour. Read more.

June 19, 2002 - The Sun-Herald chatted with Mandy Moore during her stopover in Australia recently. Mandy talked about how she's not alone in the recent trend of female pop stars trying to break free of the industry's sex-pot image. "It's prevalent but ... gosh, I guess it's just because it's the obvious choice, it's the easy road to travel, that's why so many people decide to take that road. But I think in a way there have been some artists recently who have tried to change that, it's not necessarily about the sex selling any more, it's become a lot more about the music, about them just trying to be themselves." As for Britney Spears, who started the trend, Mandy explains, "I think that works for her. She's been very successful so far doing it, but it definitely couldn't have worked for me. June 19, 2002 - Conan O'Brien joked during his Late Night monologue Tuesday, "Isn't this is a weird story. The other night, after her concert was canceled due to a power failure -- there was a power failure and they had to stop the whole thing, Britney Spears became very upset because her fans started booing here. [ Audience aws ] Yeah. Yeah, Britney felt better after her manager told her, "They're not booing, they're saying, 'Boobs, boobs!'" [ Laughter and applause ] 'Boobs!' At last, something we can all agree on. [ Laughter ] I united the audience with that joke."

June 19, 2002 - Niki Herbert of the Houston Chronicle was on hand at Houston's Compaq Center on Sunday for the latest stop in Britney Spears' 'Dream Within a Dream Tour' and said the "20-year-old phenom is making all the right moves." Herbert added, "The rendition of Joan Jett's famed single 'I Love Rock & Roll' was one of the poorest performances of the night. Spears and her female dancers rode a bridge over the stage, but she failed to convince that she practices what she preaches." Read more.

June 18, 2002 - Extra TV has a video clip posted showing off the new restaurant Britney Spears will be opening next week in New York. Co-owner Bobby Ochs provided the tour and revealed amongst the several celebrity guests invited is Spears' former *NSYNC boyfriend. "I did take a peek at Britney's personal invitation list. June 18, 2002 - Britney Spears spoke with The Sun about her breakup with *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake. Britney admits, "I’m still hurting but I am trying to see it as an experience." As for whether she's moved on yet to dating other men, Britney revealed, "I haven’t really dated anyone since Justin. I am the type of person who can’t go from a serious relationship and then just start dating someone else straight away." June 18, 2002 - While this has been rumored for awhile, MTV News confirmed today through Britney Spears' publicist that the singer will develop and produce a feature film based on NASCAR racing. Britney will portray the daughter of a NASCAR team owner who inspires a retired track veteran to return to the circuit. It is expected that some NASCAR drivers will appear in the film when casting is completed. Read more.

June 17, 2002 - William Kerns of The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal shared his thoughts on Britney Spears' abrupt cancellation of her show in Lubbock on Friday after a transformer blew out. While saying Spears didn't deserve to be booed for cancelling the show, he added, "On the other hand, Britney did blow it Friday. Blame it on her youth and inexperience when compared with stars with more life experiences. And blame a lack of confidence in standing alone in the spotlight without flames licking the ceiling or electronic gimmicks out of a Hollywood special effects spectacle. Spears is a recording artist. She had a live microphone at center stage and, in the process of saying that the show had to be canceled, what she should have done was step forward — and sing." Read more.

June 17, 2002 - Vivi Hoang of the Abilene Reporter-News spoke with rabid fans of Britney Spears outside United Spirit Arena on Friday before her concert that was cut short by a blown transformer. Amongst those was 20-year-old drag queen Eric Tavarez who said, "I pray and breathe Britney." Karen Mann brought her 5-year-old daughter saying of Britney, "She’s just a good, clean girl. June 17, 2002 - Ramiro Burr of the San Antonio Express-News reviewed Britney Spears' concert at the Alamodome Saturday night. "From the nonstop stage action and wild special effects, Spears appeared to be trying to outshine the masters, such as Michael Jackson and Madonna. She came close. She and her dancers quickly sweated up a storm as they frantically ran from one tightly choreographed number to the next." Read more.

June 17, 2002 - Lynn Mcpherson of the Sunday Mail chatted with Psychologist Dr Cynthia McVey of Glasgow Caledonian University who shared her thoughts on the long-running feud between Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez that escalated when J.Lo refused to contribute something to the luxury gifts bags to be handed out at the Nyla opening on June 27th. McVey said of J.Lo's hostility, "Jennifer will see somebody who is up and coming, while she has ten years of career behind her." As for Britney, she said, "It's likely Britney sees the older woman as someone who is established, more sophisticated, and maybe she thinks she's a better singer." Read more.

June 16, 2002 - Britney Spears' show at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, Texas was cancelled abruptly after a transformer blew just two songs into her performance. After lights were off in the arena a few minutes, Britney came onto the stage and said, "I'm just so sorry" after news of the cancellation was heard. After the crowd began booing the situation, Britney pleaded, "Please don't boo." Fortunately this wasn't a heavy metal concert, as the pop crowd calmly left the arena. June 16, 2002 - Ramiro Burr of the San Antonio Express-News reviewed Britney Spears' concert at the Alamodome Saturday night. "From the nonstop stage action and wild special effects, Spears appeared to be trying to outshine the masters, such as Michael Jackson and Madonna. She came close. June 15, 2002 - Howard Stern was talking on his radio show this morning wondering if Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were back together. He said he's heard that Justin is so upset that they broke up that he can't even say the word ''break-up.'' Howard figures that he's upset that he didn't get to bang her in the two years they were together and he knows that the next guy she gets will probably bang her like crazy. Howard said he knew a guy that had a similar thing happen to him. He worked a girl for two years, they broke up and the next guy the chick got was banging her like crazy.

June 15, 2002 - Globe magazine reports Britney Spears is devastated over her parents plans to end their 30 year marriage. Britney sobbed to pals, "I can't do this" as she considered cancelling the May 24th launch of her new tour. "My world is falling apart," she explained. Britney had called home to Kentwood after her dad Jamie walked out of the family's $4.5 million mansion. "She cried like a baby on the phone, telling each parent in turn that they belong together." June 15, 2002 - The Sun spoke with Christina Milian about her experience writing the Jennifer Lopez hit 'Play', and that J.Lo had mistaken her for the tea lady when they first met. "At the studio she said hello to everyone but me," she Explained. "She thought I was there just to make drinks!" Milian, who shares a manager with Britney Spears, also explained the importance of her ability to write songs. "Britney looks great but she doesn’t write her own songs," she said. "I do and it matters to me."

June 15, 2002 - Ramiro Burr of the San Antonio Express-News chatted with Nikka Costa who says opening for Britney Spears on her 'Dream Within A Dream' tour is helping expose her music to new audiences, though some of them might get scared in the process. "Since it's kids and teen-agers, it's like their big night out and they come early, and we're playing to full houses," she said. "I think we scare a lot of them. June 14, 2002 - The New York Post reports Britney Spears was firmly rejected by Jennifer Lopez when she asked if J.Lo would contribute something to the gift bags to be given out at the grand opening of Spears' new restaurant Nyla. A source explained the now years old beef Lopez had with Spears saying, "Britney really wanted to meet Jennifer, and so Jennifer's manager, Benny Medina, agreed to make Jennifer wait for Britney at some event. June 14, 2002 - Jaimee Rose and Anne Ryman of The Arizona Republic report Britney Spears went to Scottsdale Fashion Square on Tuesday, was mobbed by fans, and spent $300 at an Abercrombie store. Mandi McKinney, 19, said of Spears' trip to the store with her mother, her little sister, her sister's friend, and a bodyguard: "I thought she'd be rude, but they were just really, really nice. They just seem like ordinary people when you meet them face-to-face." Britney's mother was so nice to her, she ended up getting a pair of choice tickets to the America West Arena earlier this week. Metal detecting wands will be used at the arena for the first time, and finding them wasn't easy. Rodgers said of the show, "This concert was all about entertainment -- the kind you see on a well-rehearsed music video -- and little about the actual songs. Most in the audience simply stood and watched the Britney spectacle (which is certainly a thing to behold). June 14, 2002 - A fan on BritneyForums.com was at the Britney Spears concert in Phoenix last night, revealing that the singer was involved in a mishap during her performance of 'I Love Rock 'N' Roll'. The moving stage stopped and Britney couldn't bungie jump down from an elevated perch, so they had to get a ladder to get her down. The show stopped for a few minutes while they got her down. Meanwhile, opening act Nikka Costa raised the eyebrows of parents in the audience when she asked how are all the bit**es. Nikka told the parents to chill because she cursed.

June 13, 2002 - Chris Macias of the Sacremento Bee reviewed Britney Spears' concert at the Arco Arena on Monday night, saying there wasn't much difference between the live set and the 'Britney Spears: Live From Las Vegas' home video. "Spears' presented a nonstop sugar rush of eye candy," he said. "But there was also zilch in the way of spontaneity or surprise. With lighting, effects, dancing and music all rigidly programmed, seeing one stop on Spears' tour is like seeing them all." Macias added, "Though Spears appeared guilty of lip-synching during the more-strenuous song-and-dance numbers, her singing was mostly fine during the show's few intimate moments. Katchen said, "He would benefit from topical agents with antibiotics in them. These are often combined with benzoyl peroxide to dry up zits. June 12, 2002 - The New York Post got an an advance look at Britney Spears' new restaurant Nyla, scheduled to open later this month. Amongst the items on the menu are grilled salmon with Mississippi caviar and sautéed southern greens ($17); southern fried chicken with potato Johnny cakes ($16); and a lobster salad appetizer with fried green tomatoes ($12). Restaurant partner Bobby Ochs says says Nyla "is not a theme restaurant. It's not a monument to Britney. We are really going to run a sophisticated upscale New York restaurant in an upscale hotel." As for all the public attention about the relationship, "I feel like I'm in the middle of a soap opera. I honestly know what it's like to have a broken heart now." June 11, 2002 - The Philadelphia Daily News reports local songwriters Michael Cottrill and Larry Wnukowski have filed suit last Friday contending that Britney Spears, her publishing company and her recording company pirated their tune 'What You See Is What You Get' by using two versions of it on her platinum 'Oops, I Did It Again' album. The only difference is using the letter U in place of the word You. On the album, the song's titled, 'What U See Is What U Get.' The suit asserts Britney's handlers "merely made minor adjustments to some of the lyrics and music in the respective songs in an unsuccessful attempt to 'conceal' their pirating of" Cottrill's and Wnukowski's musical talents. June 11, 2002 - Associated Press reports Britney Spears has purchased another apartment in New York City - and this one has been owned by Rolling Stone Keith Richards and Def Jam Records founder Russell Simmons. Dr. Brad Katchen's medical solution to the problem was: "The main reason she's breaking out is her age. And vigorous dancing in heavy makeup. After all performances, she should wash off her makeup thoroughly and, at night, use a topical hydroxy acid lotion, which helps exfoliate skin."

June 10, 2002 - Tiffany Lee-Youngren of the San Diego Union Tribune reviewed Britney Spears' concert at San Diego State's Cox Arena Wednesday night, ripping the heavily commercialized theme of the show. "Spears wasn't the only slave at Cox Arena Wednesday night," she said. "With a shameless guerrilla marketing campaign behind her 2002 'Dream Within a Dream' Tour, it became more and more obvious that by buying tickets to see Spears, her fans had sold themselves to the worst kind of corporate manipulation – advertising designed as 'just a part of the show.'" June 10, 2002 - Chris Macias of the Sacremento Bee spoke with set designer/art director Jim Day ahead of Monday's Britney Spears concert at the Arco Arena. Day and Steven Cohen help design the stage used by Spears on this tour and has masterminded several other tours including *NSYNC's. "Every time you're talking about an *NSYNC or Britney Spears tour, it's like taking a Broadway show out on the road," Day says. "It might take up to 20 trucks to haul the sets around. *NSYNC and Britney -- their training was with Disney, so they're performers and can sing and dance at the same time. June 6, 2002 - Jeff Miller of CDNow.com reviewed the Britney Spears / Nikka Costa show in Los Angeles at the Staples Center on Tuesday. Miller writes, "One girl's shirt simply read 'Britney Is Hot,' which, of course, pretty much sums up her show. Her 11 costume changes –- an average of around one every two songs –- just proved she could be hot anywhere." Read more.

June 6, 2002 - Britney Spears has infuriated animal rights activists yet again with her use of a zebra and a peacock in her new video for 'Boys.' People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals cruelty specialist Amy Rhodes said, "I can promise you that whatever was done to have this zebra walk up stairs [producers of the video had the zebra walk up a long flight of steps in front of the Beverly Hills Manson the video was filmed at] was cruel. The animal did this out of the fear of getting yelled at or even hurt. Britney shouldn't exploit animals to ensure that her fans will still like her." Read more.

June 5, 2002 - When LMNT was asked if they were excited about touring with Britney, Ikaika said, "Yeah." Bryan said, "Oh God yes." And Mike said, "Yes, because she's so HOT right now!" Read more.

June 4, 2002 - Neva Chonin of the San Francisco Chronicle reviewed the Britney Spears show at the Arena in Oakland Saturday. Chronin said, "At times she was obviously lip-synching, and her stage patter was as rehearsed as her musical numbers. What does it matter? Spears has never claimed to be an artist, only an entertainer; and her stage show has no more room for improvisation than a Broadway musical." Read more.

June 3, 2002 - Tony Hicks of the Contra Costa Times also weighed in on the Britney Spears concert at Oakland Arena on Saturday night, continuing the same circus theme in the review. Hicks writes, "Fan intimacy is still a foreign concept with Britney. This show has to play well from the front row to the rafters, which it did. What you saw was what you got -- a circus act complete with blaring soundtrack. For the most part, it worked." June 3, 2002 - Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review Journal reports Britney Spears' handlers are denying my report here last week that she failed to show up at a sound check at Mandalay Bay a week ago. Nevertheless, Norm insists, "Contrary to the denials, it happened. In fact, several people have told me a well-known entertainer made a superhuman effort to get Spears together with the girl before she left town. What was inaccurate was that the [5 year old girl and terminal cancer sufferer] was associated with the Make a Wish organization. She was not, and I apologize for that misinformation." 

June 2, 2002 - Steve Morse of the Boston Globe spoke with Vanessa Carlton who played last night's KISS concert at the Tweeter Center. ''This has definitely been a journey,'' Carlton says. ''I take it one day at a time. And I'm never surprised when things don't go my way. I have my head screwed on straight." Part of that journey was getting tourned down left and right by record labels before finally landing with A&M three years ago. "The labels kept saying, 'We're in the middle of a Britney Spears storm, so why should we sign you?'" Read more.

June 2, 2002 - Former Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio shared with Doug Elfman of the Las Vegas Review Journal a time when opera singer Beverly Sills once told him that America couldn't produce another Beverly Sills right now, due to the degredation of music education in the U.S. school system. The pool of musically schooled adults is "so low, everyone wants to be like Britney (Spears)," Anastasio says. "Who can listen to opera? It's the dumbing down" of America. Read more.

She has a really cool lifestyle. ... We're just so into it." As for the show, Jasmin said, "Talent aside, there aren't many performers with her stamina. And there are fewer who can manage the incredible costume changes she pulled off." Read more.

June 1, 2002 - Marty Hughley of The Oregonian reviewed Britney Spears' Thursday night show at the Rose Garden arena saying it borrowed heaviliy from the concepts of Janet Jackson. "Although Spears has often been compared to Madonna, her greater musical debt has been to Janet Jackson," he said. June 1, 2002 - A fan who attended Britney Spears' concert at the Tacoma Dome on Wednesday posted 46 pictures from the show. The person had great front row seats too so they are pretty high quality pictures, though not thumbnailed so be patient. Check them out here.

June 1, 2002 - Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review Journal reports Britney Spears was rumored to be offered $10,000 to show up at a local nightclub during her two-night engagement last week at Mandalay Bay.

June 1, 2002 - A  photo of Britney Spears has been censored from Ben Lomond High's yearbook due to copyright restrictions. Assistant Principal Kevin Kuykendall explained, "She was in a collage of students that represents our school. It"s kind of silly." Since it is illegal to sell the copyrighted material, the yearbook staff will be cutting out the Britney image. "We"re just trying to take care of it so we don"t have a legal obligation on our hands," said Kuykendall. Read more.
