"I think what we are getting back to is people who have the talent and less of the look," judge Randy Jackson told Access Hollywood. "I think the Britney thing was a thing for a while. January 31, 2003 - USA Today asked Britney Spears' publicist Lisa Kasteler if she and Colin Farrell are officially dating. "They're friends," says Spears' publicist Lisa Kasteler. What about Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst? Or rumors that Britney was back with Justin Timberlake of *NSYNC? "That I can't tell you," Kasteler said. "She's young, she's single, she's beautiful. They basically said all the stuff we already know, but at the end of the segment it was mentioned that Jive was also in talks with the Limp Bizkit frontman to direct a video for the song. The song must be great if they're talkin' about a video for it, which means it might be a single. She hasn't even finished recording songs yet."

January 31, 2003 - E! Online's Ted Casablanca reports Britney Spears toured the Sundance Film Festival late into the night with a train of black Escalades and a bevy of blondes. Spears partied in Park City, Utah in between meetings trying to land film roles. Ted says Spears was too tuckered out to pick up freebies, so she sent a flacker off to the Express suite to pick up armloads of clothes.

January 31, 2003 - Us Weekly reports Britney Spears and Fred Durst's romance is over. The Limp Bizkit frontman "got dumped, and he's pretty upset about it," says a source in his camp. Rumors of their break-up were sparked when the couple was spotted at the Los Angeles hot spot the Ivar on January 22. "They stayed separate for most of the night until he went up to the VIP area and danced with her for a couple of songs," says an eyewitness. "She then left, and he went back to the regular part of the club."

She seemed a little peeved that Spears stole all the attention from a film she isn't in, joked about how tiny she is, and said she walked in the theater and left before the movie even started. January 30, 2003 - Vanessa Carlton, Avril Lavigne, John Mayer, Britney Spears, *NSYNC, and Michelle Branch are among the artists featured on the 2003 Grammy Nominees CD, due out February 11. The ninth edition of the CD series honors many of this year's Grammy-nominated artists and songs in several major categories. January 30, 2003 - Access Hollywood caught up with Colin Farrell on the red carpet of his new film 'The Recruit', and asked about his date for the night, Britney Spears. January 28, 2003 - The New York Post reports Britney Spears was not impressed with the Robert Downey Jr. starring 'The Singing Detective', which she screened at the Sundance Film Festival along with her entourage. The group walked out on the show after 45 minutes and she later told a spy, "The official line is we had our schedules mixed up, so we had to leave, but I didn't like the movie... Sundance is weird. The movies are weird - you actually have to think about them when you watch them." Spears' rep explained, "'The Singing Detective' wasn't her cup of tea, but she loved 'Party Monster' and 'The Cooler'."

January 28, 2003 - The Sun reports the company behind Proactiv were delighted when Britney Spears mentioned their product in a radio interview, as we reported earlier. They were so happy, in fact, that they sent the singer a check for $163,000 -- but Britney sent it right back. "Britney had no intention of brown-nosing. She didn’t want the money or officially to endorse this product," an assitant explained. "She’s just overjoyed she found something that really works — that does what it claims."

January 28, 2003 - The San Jose Mercury News reports Miramax's 'Project Greenlight' party at a nightclub on Main Street turned into a near-riot, with A-listers like Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and her fiance Ben Affleck in attendance. They report, "Police were forced to shut down the festival's main thoroughfare when an enormous crowd that had gathered outside the party surged toward the limo carrying Lopez, Affleck and their perpetual posse, Matt Damon. When Spears fetched up at the velvet rope -- then had to cool her stiletto heels outside while her security detail conducted a sweep of the club, apparently searching for anthrax, or Justin Timberlake, or something -- fans were sighted crawling across rooftops to penetrate her security nimbus. January 28, 2003 - You've seen washed-up actresses promote the product on infomercials, but now Proactiv has received an A-list endorsement from Britney Spears. Her rep tells Us Weekly that the singer "wants to get the word out" about the anti-acne regimen. Spears says, "Proactiv is the only thing I use. I call it my zit-zapping miracle." Don't look for Spears on the infomercials though, she's not on the Proactiv payroll.

"The party was really for Justin's closest friends, family and the people who have helped him with promotion since he's been in the country," a source revealed. January 27, 2003 - Liz Smith of the New York Post reports Robert Redford was furious with the behavior of Britney Spears and her pals at his Sundance Film Festival in Park City on Tuesday night, which may be a big blow to her movie career hopes. They attended a screening of a coming Holly Hunter movie, where Spears and pals were loud, chatted on cell phones and walked out before the movie was over. "If looks could kill," said one who observed Redford's scowl, "Britney would be the deadest pop star in the world."

January 24, 2003 - MTV News reports Skechers is responding to the $1.5 million lawsuit against the company Britney Spears filed last Christmas. The shoe company is volleying back a multimillion-dollar countersuit within the next two months. The footwear company says it was actually Britney who backed out on the three-year deal. "We did not get any value out of the money we gave her," Skechers attorney Daniel Petrocelli said. Britney Brands attorney Jonathan Solish countered in a statement, "Skechers' claims are ludicrous and without merit. "I drove Britney two times when she did 'The Rosie O'Donnell Show'. When I met her the first time, she was the sweetest little girl - just young and innocent, not the sexy thing you see today," Monroe explained. "The next time I saw her was a year ago. After mere seconds of taking in the sultry wannabe scene, Spears, surprisingly downbeat, exited the club, claiming she wasn't feeling well.

January 16, 2002 - MTV News coorespondent SuChin Pak made some rather eye-raising comments on two of MTV's darlings at a speech Monday night at Norris University Center. Pak said, "Britney Spears is a prime example of what's gone wrong with music today." As for the guy Britney is now semi-linked to, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, she said, "I interviewed Fred Durst. There wasn't a whole lot going on up there." January 16, 2002 - WENN reports Jamie Lynn Spears turned to her sister Britney Spears after a scheduled performer dropped out of Nickelodean's 'All That'. "We didn't plan for Britney to do it, but the musical guest dropped out and Britney said, 'I'll do it,'" Mini B said. "It was fun. I wasn't scared to act in front of her." January 15, 2003 - The New York Post reports *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake and on-again galpal Britney Spears shared a tender kiss early Tuesday, right after Spears blew chunks in the ladies room at Joseph's Cafe in Hollywood following the American Music Awards. "You could hear her in the stall," says a source. "Then she came out and cleaned up in front of the mirror. She was a little tipsy, but she wasn't drunk. January 15, 2003 - Newsweek spoke with ten-year-old Hallie Wilson used to be a Britney Spears fan, who now is a fan of Avril Lavigne. Recently, Hallie made a Frankenstein-like collage of her former idol from magazine clippings, pasting various girlie body parts together—legs in high heels, a torso in a push-up bra—and gave the singer an almond for a head. January 15, 2003 - Carson Daly was put under the gun today by Jimmy Kimmel in preparation for his new late night talk show on ABC. Jimmy quizzed Carson on which celebrities he's seen naked. He did say yes to longtime girlfriend Jennifer Love Hewitt, though said no to Tara Reid. The award was somewhat backhanded though as he writes that Spears "in all other respects makes our flesh crawl." January 7, 2003 - Britney Spears' mother Lynne wrote another update on Britney's official website today. She writes, "The holidays went by too quickly this year. We did quite a bit of traveling, and this always makes the days fly by. Everyone in the family seemed to be going in different directions. Everything finally settled down on Christmas. Britney gave Jamie Lynn a wonderful gift for Christmas. She flew Jamie Lynn, three friends and myself to Vail, Colorado for five days. I enjoyed the gift as much as Jamie Lynn. The snowy mountains were beautiful, and the house we stayed in was fabulous. After skiing everyday, we could rest our weary muscles in the Jacuzzi outside." Read more.

January 7, 2003 - The Sun reports Britney Spears is talks about playing the lead in a movie about a modern-day female Sherlock Holmes entitled '221bCAUSE'. The flick features a disgraced junkie cop who turns detective trying to save the US President’s kidnapped young son. A film insider said, "'221bCAUSE' is the Sherlock Holmes story set in the present and with a female lead. It gets its name from Holmes’ address in London’s Baker Street. In the story, 221b Baker Street is now a travel agents. Britney is a New Yorker working there and she notices letters arriving for Sherlock Holmes. She starts to answer them as the detective and it leads her back to New York trying to trace the President’s son." Read more.

January 5, 2003 - While Pepsi announced last month they were not going to renew Britney Spears' $7 million contract, the cola company's spokeswoman Katie Lacey tells Access Hollywood their relationship isn't over for good. "Pepsi didn't drop Britney," she insisted. "We have a great relationship with britney, and we'll continue to do so." She added, "She fulfilled every aspect of her two-year contract. And with her, we did some of the best advertising we've ever done." As for the decision to hire Destiny's Child star Beyonce Knowles. "Two years for us is a lot. We need to move on and so does Britney." Moving on doesn't mean a permanent split though. "Michael J. Fox is one example," Lacey pointed out "Look at Shaq, Cindy Crawford. We bring them back.
