"Britney Spears was promoted as being ideal for girls - the virgin thing and everything else," O'Neill said. "Now that seems to have gone - she's quite raunchy now, when I think back to the fact she was projected as this country girl with flowing skirts and petticoats." July 30, 2003 - Billboard.com reports Britney Spears and Mary J. Blige are on board for a September 4th free concert at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to kick off the 2003 National Football League season. ABC will broadcast the concert from 8-9 p.m. ET, followed by the Redskins/Jets game. An NFL spokesperson would not confirm the concert lineup, but acknowledged the league was exploring plans for "an entertainment-driven" event to kick off the season. Read more.

Spears saw the *NSYNC star dancing with new girlfriend Cameron Diaz -- the two had been on the dance floor for hours when she arrived -- at 2:30 am. "She was put on the otherside of the club," a source said. "Because it was a sensitive issue, and the club didn't want her to know he was there." After a while, Spears "took a stroll, and on the other side of the club she saw them dancing. She stared at them for a good minute and then immediately stormed out." July 25, 2003 - MotorsportsTV.com reports Britney Spears Productions has issued a statement saying the singer's NASCAR film project is still on. "Britney herself was surprised to hear that she had allegedly said she would not be making the movie," said the film's producer Ann Carli in the statement. Fortunately, Spears was directed to a Port-O-Potty ouside, where the singer did her business before checking out other properties.

They joked a bit about that, and DeRogatis mentioned a previous call he'd been on with Britney Spears, where she goofed in saying Elvis was born in Las Vegas and Pat Benatar, not Joan Jett, originally performed her cover of 'I Love Rock N' Roll'. Timberlake said, "Well, I think her answers were revealing!" When DeRogatis promised not to mention Britney again, and that he could care less, Timberlake responded, "I could care less, too!" July 17, 2003 - An insider tells New York Magazine that handlers at Britney Spears' label, Jive Records, are insisting that it was all part of her master plan to be dressed badly leading up to the release of the August issue of W magazine. "They’re saying that they made her look so ugly that when Michael Thompson’s photos came out she would be so hot that people would be shocked," the insider said. July 17, 2003 - The New York Daily News reports Britney Spears snuck into Show the other night at 1 a.m., handed her new CD to DJ Cassidy and asked him to play two songs so she could gauge the crowd's reaction. Satisfied with the results, she was whisked out a side door and jumped into a limo.

While Laura Morgan, entertainment editor of Seventeen, which is putting Moore on its cover next month, was full of props for Mandy, the singer/actress was quick to give praise herself to peers Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. "I have a lot of respect for Britney and Christina," Moore said. "With the barrage of media they've had to go through, it's admirable how they've come out and appear to be independent, strong-minded and confident young women." For her part, Morgan says, "Mandy presents the image [of a] young, smart girl," and, with Britney or Christina, "the life they lead is so different from the average girl's. July 2, 2003 - The New York Post is casting a critical eye at Britney Spears after the singer's choice of clothing for the MTV Bash over the weekend. "I just don't think she has a gift for putting herself together," Karen Parr, fashion and beauty director at In Touch Weekly told the Post. As for her return to being a blonde, Parr added, "I just knew she couldn't keep a hair color that sophisticated. It's her personality to be blond. It's like when Pam Anderson took her implants out: she looked better, but eventually had to put them back in. She couldn't do it - she needed those boobs. Neither of them can be subtle." Read more.

July 2, 2003 - Britney Spears not only did a tell-all story with Star magazine, but in their sister publication, the National Enquirer, the singer is shown holding up the previous week's copy of the magazine in an advertisement (p.40) with Jennifer Lopez on the cover and the headline, "Ben Orders J.Lo Makeover." Britney has a big smile on her face while wearing a Tennessee Titans jersey. Combined with a non-denial of any info provided in the interview from anyone in the Spears camp, and a photo clearly showing her shamelessly plugging the tabloid, it appears obvious that the interview did take place, and did happen recently. July 1, 2003 - Access Hollywood was on hand for Carson Daly's MTV Bash, where the TRL host asked how former girlfriend Jennifer Love Hewitt got along with his parents on the red carpet, the first time they'd spoken since their breakup. Meanwhile, Britney Spears remarked, "He is a man who goes out of his way, especially for the less fortunate, young, attractive women, who would do anything for a concert ticket or a backstage pass." July 1, 2003 - Turnabout is fair play as Carson Daly found out on Saturday night, when Britney Spears, Jon Stewart and former girlfriends Tara Reid and Jennifer Love Hewitt roasted MTV's most famous host at a comedy concert. "That's pretty much how it's going to go tonight," Carson told Entertainment Tonight. "Imagine having all of your ex-girlfriends under one roof. Good times." Britney Spears, who also took part in the roasting, told ET, "We're here to honor him by dishonoring him. July 1, 2003 - The Daily Mail is bashing Britney Spears' fashion sense after her appearance on MTV's Bash of Carson Daly. The bizarre combo featured a diamante bow-tie necklace and an off-the-shoulder T-shirt carrying the words 'Page SixSixSix' - apparently a sly dig at the Page Six gossip column of the New York Post. "The outfit was interesting, to say the least," an onlooker remarked. "It looked as though she had just pulled lots of different things out of her wardrobe at random. Where is her stylist?
