August 30, 2003 - Britney Spears was interviewed last night by Entertainment Tonight's Steven Cojocaru and when asked about the kiss with Madonna at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday, she responded, "This was something that I have been wanting to do since I was a little kid, I cannot just believe this like, friggin happened, I'm like going very major high right now, I feel very cool, no seriously, it was amazing, it was awesome, I feel very blessed and it was awesome." August 30, 2003 - The Southern Illinoisan caught up with Britney Spears impersonator Melissa Virdo at the Du Quoin State Fair free entertainment tent Friday night, and asked her about the shocking kiss the previous night with Britney Spears and Madonna. "I was kind of shocked," Virdo said. "But then I thought -- you go girl! She's always in the media's eye and has the media attention. I think it was maybe more for the shock value than anything. I think she's trying to shed her little-girl image. She's growing up. She's a woman and she wants to show her sexuality. "I understand that I need to be very discreet about my private life," she explained. "The lesson was difficult to learn, but I've had to get it through my head in order to have some peace in my life. August 30, 2003 - The Herald Sun is casting a critical eye towards Britney Spears, claiming "one person is clearly ready and willing to step into the pop star's shoes -- her little sister Jamie Lynn." He writes, "Watching film of the MTV Video Music Awards from Thursday night, when Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were making out with Madonna, I've got to say: I was a little saddened. Is that the point where sex has fallen? August 30, 2003 - The New York Daily News spoke with editors from leading music publications for response to Thursday night's big MTV Video Music Awards moment when Madonna kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. "I don't think most people who watched that kiss were thinking about Britney on 'The Mickey Mouse Club,'" said Teen People music editor Zena Burns. August 30, 2003 - According to MuchMusic, Christina Aguilera says her kiss with Madonna at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday night was "very lovely." Aguilera explained that they kissed several times during rehearsals, but Britney Spears had to be coaxed into kissing Madonna. She says Madonna "kept having to go 'Britney, kiss me, kiss me'.'' Aguilera says Spears did "the open-mouth thing" even though "Madonna knew she wanted closed-mouth" on the show.

Sigesmund, entertainment reporter for Newsweek, Thelma Adams, film critic for Us Weekly, and Tom O'Neil, senior editor for In Touch Weekly were on American Morning on CNN Friday morning to talk about the MTV Video Music Awards and of course weighed in on the Madonna and Britney Spears and Madonna and Christina Aguilera kisses. Sigesmund said, "I thought that the first 20 minutes were just amazing. I thought you don't get a bigger pop culture moment than that opening number with Christina and Britney, first of all, long-time rivals. August 30, 2003 - The Britney Spears and Madonna kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards even made it into CNN's political debate show 'Crossfire' on Friday. Chatting about the California recall, conservative co-host Tucker Carlson joked, "A history a group sex is likely to be almost mandatory. Thanks to Arnold, the rules have changed. No Gray Davises need apply. With this in mind, Britney Spears was clearly laying a predicate for a gubernatorial bid at the MTV Awards last night. For those of you who may have missed the show, Spears was joined on stage by fellow singer Madonna, who greeted her with a passionate open-mouthed kiss. It was, needless to say, a ratings bonanza. It was also the unofficial kickoff of the Spears 2012 campaign. That's the strategy, anyway. Of course, if attitudes change between now and then, Spears can always claim she was never living her life to run for governor. It's worked for Arnold." August 30, 2003 - Jeanne Moos of CNN got reactions from New Yorkers and celebrities following the Madonna kisses with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera to open the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday night. Comedian Dennis Miller remarked, "I am repulsed but strangely aroused." Moos herself said, "The last time a kiss caused such a stir was when Al Gore planted one on Tipper. Sure, there have been other same-sex kisses, from 'All My Children' to 'Ellen,' but none with this star power." He said, "... first of all say I thought the evening was surprisingly flat. I was hoping for something more in the spirit of Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1977 'Oui' interview. In fact at moments I became so bored I kept going back to that interview. I have it on microfiche, so I can access it at any time. The -- I suppose the Madonna, Britney, Christina kiss in their mock sort of wedding little setup there was the big highlight for everybody. This was Madonna, once again, being political. August 30, 2003 - Virginia Heffernan of Slate reviewed the MTV Video Music Awards and spoke about the "orgy of duets" and of course the Madonna kiss with Britney Spears. "Madonna had come as the man—the sugar daddy, maybe, twirling the little girls, keeping them in line, and finally kissing Spears," Heffernan said. "She also kissed Aguilera, to be fair, but the camera barely registered it, and we all know that Madonna has long leered at Britney. Britney swooned into the kiss, her mouth soft. The small thrill of this kiss was real to me because, though girls making out with girls is an old party stunt, this time it came off as female lechery: overmuscled, rich, landed matriarch Madonna (in tails, no less) praying on sweetie Spears, who (in wedding white) hasn't even had a first marriage yet. August 30, 2003 - Chart Attack weighed in on the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday, saying *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake out-classed his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears and her lip-locking partner for the night, Madonna. They said, of the kiss: "This was PR manipulation at its shrewdest — Brit gets to seal her new 'I’m not a virgin anymore' image and Madonna, who’s desperation for a hit has only been highlighted by her Gap ad, becomes current again. In contrast to Brit and Madge’s stunts, Spears’ ex-manfriend (and the biggest winner of the night) Timberlake, was a pinnacle of restraint. Dressed in a smart suit and refraining from either putting anyone down or talking about booty, Justin may not have actually deserved to beat out Johnny Cash in a couple of categories — but at least he admitted it, calling for the audience to deliver the Man In Black a round of applause." He says, "In snogging them both, she confuses matters. Britney and Christina, when they were on the way up seven or eight years ago, were rivals. Now they have both been superseded by Beyonce Knowles. So they are vulnerable to getting involved in this sort of silliness - but too foolish to hold out for exclusivity. Madonna got her headlines." Actor Jason Biggs joked, "The kiss was hot. I couldn’t stand up for five minutes." Britney's rumored ex and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst added, "Definitely the kiss was a cool thing. It brought back a lot of memories. What?" Carmen Electra says, "It was hot." But her fiance Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction played safe with his answer. August 28, 2003 - The New York Daily News is spoiling the fun for tonight's Video Music Awards. They report that according to a spy at rehearsals, Britney Spears will appear in a white wedding dress on top of a giant wedding cake while singing 'Like a Virgin,' in tribute to Madonna's number at the 1984 VMAs. Then Christina Aguilera will take the stage, dressed identically, and do the same routine. After that, Madonna and Missy Elliott come out and sing Madonna's latest hit, 'Hollywood'. Jennifer Lopez was supposed to be involved too but she had to back out because of filming commitments in Canada.

August 28, 2003 - Hilary Duff was on MTV's Total Request Live on Wednesday and responded to the report that had Britney Spears complimenting her "amazing" music and how she was "completely a light to the world so beautiful, so incredibly sweet." Duff responded, "Oh, that makes me feel so good, you guys. I love Britney Spears. She's awesome. I'm a huge fan. I never met her before, but I hope I meet her at the VMA's. I have all of her CD's and I know all the words to her songs. I think she gets a lot of flak and stuff and I love her. She is awesome."

August 28, 2003 - The New York Post hears that Britney Spears will star in a remake of Kevin Bacon's 1984 'Footloose', directed by Baz Luhrmann.

August 28, 2003 - Britney Spears, Nelly and *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake all owe some of their biggest hits to the Neptunes' magic touch, but Pharrell Williams is quick to honor the people he's worked with. "Snoop, that's my boy man. He's like, anything I've asked him to do he's just done it," Pharrell told Radio 1. "That's my heart right there - Snoop, Justin and Jay-Z, those are my boys right there. Britney's an amazing talent. We wanted to work with her because she's so amazing and unafraid. She steps out. In today's edition of The Mirror, the 43-year-old music boss with the Midas touch and the razor-sharp tongue talks candidly about the stars he made - and the ones he let slip through his fingers. Cowell spoke of the song that slipped away only to launch the huge career of Britney Spears saying, "When I heard 'Baby One More Time' as a demo, I offered the songwriter a £65,000 Mercedes if he would give me that song. "Jennifer is working on her movie in Canada," a pal of hers explained. Britney Spears will be in the audience, but won't be performing for her friend Madonna. "She will be there, but as of right now, there are no plans for her to sing," another source told the Post. August 25, 2003 - A spy tells E! Online's Ted Casablanca, "I swear Britney was kissing a girl!" Turns out it was long haired actor/singer Jared Leto at the White Lotus in Los Angeles. Ted adds that the couple went into a roped-off room for about 20 minutes while Britney's bad bod-guard stood in front of the door before being rushed out of the club. "Britney has seen Jared three times this week," an insider revealed. "They met up for an afternoon snack at the Coffee Bean on Sunset Boulevard, a night out at Joseph's Club in Hollywood and a romantic dinner at Britney's place. She cooked him something really special - fried chicken breast, Louisiana style."

August 25, 2003 - The Glasgow Daily Record reports Britney Spears stocked up on 30 pairs of panties at a Los Angeles lingerie store. Britney and her assistant hurried the undies through a checkout before she signed an autograph for an employee. "She was so cool," said the shop worker. "She loved our underwear and said she'd be back for more."

The big guy feels that he's been unfairly blamed for her wilder lifestyle, saying he was Britney's "best friend" and thatshe "loved him." But now he feels "betrayed." A spokeswoman for Spears denied any connection between Big Rob's ouster and Spears' recent drug use revelations.

August 18, 2003 - Gerri Hirshey of the New York Times spoke with Britney Spears in an interview for their Fashion of the Times issue. Spears talked about some of her favorite foods, some of the bad outfits she's worn in the past, and the scrutiny she gets on the several anti-Britney web sites. After being unable to find her former *NSYNC honey, she split with a pouty look on her face.

Fred explained, "I was pretty upset when me and Britney ended. Was my heart broken? Yes. Things were getting out of control and Justin was calling her and freaking out. "I was sitting in a hotel with 25, 30 of my family and friends who came over from Dublin, and she's talking to someone in the corner with her friends," he explained. "I'm going, 'Isn't this dandy? August 7, 2003 - The National Enquirer reports that when Britney Spears recently picked up a sandwich at Togo's in Hollywood, she found a hair in it and went ballistic. "She was livid," an eyewitness revealed. "But Britney quickly changed her tune when the manager politely pointed out that the light-colored sandwich hair was strikingly similar to Britney's - an didn't match any of the restaurant's employees." Even though Spears realized it was her own hair in the sandwich, she lost her appetite and threw her half-eaten sandwich in the trash.

August 7, 2003 - Star magazine reports that Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera arrived at a Miami Beach club as best friends, but Spears left an hour later after a long argument with Aguilera, which was reportedly about actor Simon Rex. "The music was too loud to hear them," says an eyewitness. "But it looked pretty serious. There was a lot of finger-pointing and flailing arms. A couple of beefy guys were standing by in case they needed to be separated, but fortunately, Britney left before they came to blows." Read more.

But around 1 A.M., Spears, 21,was told by her new bodyguard to call it a night. A witness revealed the singer responded, "I dont want to go." The replacement for Big Rob responded with a firm, "We're going". Then, without putting up a fight, Spears and her girlfriends quietly walked out of the club. With the early night, Spears was up bright and early to work out before hitting the recording studio.

August 3, 2003 - Star magazine has more details on Britney Spears' secret visit to Show nightclub in New York where she previewed two tracks from her upcoming album. Show's publicist Kelly Cutrone said, "The crowd just loved it! People started screaming, 'It's Britney!' The dance floor was really packed. People were dancing very hard to the new stuff."
