It was a coup for her PR machine as it placed the Australian singer up there with the best of them and presented her as Britney's direct competition. But Holly was humbled by the meeting. "I was one of the lucky ones, I'm a massive fan so I was a bit star struck," Valance told Sky News. "The party was good, really nice. October 31, 2003 - The Sun reports Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst can't stop talking about rumored fling Britney Spears, and claims he can’t get her out of his head. "I really felt that this was going to be something major," Durst moaned. "I was open to it."

October 31, 2003 - The Sun reports Britney Spears cancelled her European album launch just before it was due to start because of the flu and a throat infection. "In the middle of our two-and-a-half-week promotional tour Britney has been ordered to take bed rest as a result of flu and a severe throat infection," a spokesman for Spears revealed. "Her representatives have cancelled her performance and she will resume her European promo tour with visits to Germany, the UK, Spain and France." October 29, 2003 - The Daily Mail reports that Britney Spears has been accused of snubbing her own guests after she threw a party at the Rex in London - and then spent the night hiding behind her entourage. The singer even had one VIP guest thrown out when they took a photo of her. "A lot of the celebrity guests felt very, very uncomfortable," a partygoer revealed. During this period she stalked Justin by calling him night and day, forcing the *NSYNC singer to put a block on his home phone. October 29, 2003 - The Associated Press reports Japanese businessman Masahiko Shizawa, ordered to stay away from Britney Spears, is suing the city of Los Angeles for allegedly taking away his dignity during a search of his hotel room last year. Shizawa, 43, filed the lawsuit Monday in U.S. District Court. His action didn't state a specific damage amount, but he estimated he'd suffered more than $2 million in damages. Read more.

October 29, 2003 - Britney Spears continued to talk about her desire to buy a place in London in an interview with Radio 1. Spears said, "Before me and Madonna even did anything together, I went to London and was taken aback how I felt when I was here," she said. "It's like a state of being that I really liked. Then we met and she was talking about how much she liked it too so much. It's really weird. I like being here for some reason, I don't know if it's because my grandmother used to live here a long time ago or something like that. Recently I went to go look at a place. "I went to London last week and it's so cool there," the pop singer told Britain's ITV television in an interview broadcast Monday. "I'm thinking of moving there. It's really beautiful. In August, she began auditioning dancers, and they're planning to start rehearsals in February in Los Angeles for a tour that will kick off in March. Spears has switched choreographers from Jennifer Lopez's ex-hubby Cris Judd, to Jamie King of 'Dance Fever', and now she's working with Kevin Tanchareon, who also co-choreographed the 'Me Against the Music' video.

October 22, 2003 - Ratethemusic.com reports Basement Jaxx refused to agree to work on a remix of 'Me Against the Music' unless they could hear it first. Felix Buxton explained, "We were asked to remix the last Madonna and Britney record, but they said we couldn't hear the track. They said, 'Do you want to do Madonna?' We asked, 'Well, what does it sound like?' They said 'It's the new Madonna single' as if that was enough. We didn't have much time, and they did eventually send a thing of it, but it was all far too late."

October 22, 2003 - A radio station in Atlanta recently put up a billboard featuring Britney Spears and Madonna kissing, only to later remove it after people bombarded the station, 96-Rock, with complaints. Station spokesman Scott Baker told Jeannette Walls of MSNBC.com, "The billboard was pushing the edge, but I didn’t think it was offensive, but we got calls from area residents who passed by the board who were expressing their discontent that they were having to have uncomfortable conversations with their children and just felt it was morally offensive." October 22, 2003 - Susan Reimer of the Baltimore Sun weighed in on Kendel Ehrlich's recent troubles after saying she'd like to "shoot Britney Spears", only to announce she was pregnant days later. Reimer reminded Ehrlich that her 4-year-old son will soon be dealing with a "bevy of half-naked beauties that will be sitting next to Drew in class, starting in about seventh grade." She added, "Has the first lady seen Christina Aguilera lately? If Ehrlich is looking for somebody to shoot, she makes a better target. Christina makes Britney seem like a Sunday school teacher." "It was just an unfortunate example regarding pop culture and I really shouldn't have singled anybody out. October 8, 2003 - The New York Post reports Jason Giambi, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada were at Pangaea Sunday celebrating their playoff victory over the Twins while Britney was busy with married boyfriend Columbus Short, at a table surrounded by her girlfriends and bodyguards. October 8, 2003 - USA Today music writer Edna Gundersen was asked about why Jennifer Lopez seems to get more respect musically than Britney Spears, even though "musically, creatively, vocally, lyrically on the same level." Gundersen responded, "Same level? I'd wager that Britney has more musical savvy, a broader vocal range and a nicer singing voice by far. I have no idea how J.Lo got this far in the music industry with so little talent. October 8, 2003 - Reports that Madonna's husband Guy Ritchie will direct Britney Spears and his wife in an S&M-themed video for Spears' new single 'Me Against The Music' have been overhyped. "Guy Ritchie is not directing," Madonna's rep Liz Rosenberg tells Star magazine. "It's mostly a performance video. No dominatrix S&M stuff. October 8, 2003 - The Associated Press reports a judge ordered a Japanese businessman Masahiko Shizawa to stay away from pop idol Britney Spears, ruling Tuesday he was "was abnormally obsessed and fixated with Spears." "It was an obvious pattern of harassment and emotional harm done to a person of notoriety," Superior Court Judge Alan Haber said in issuing the permanent injunction. Read more.

October 8, 2003 - Us Weekly profiled how Britney Spears has been shedding her clothes recently for Rolling Stone, Elle, New York Times magazine, and Esquire. James White, the photographer for the Esquire shoot, remarked, "Britney was totally comfortable. Usually we have to wait a bit for the subject to warm up, but she was relaxed from the start." As for why the singer was doing this image altering striptease, a source close to Spears remarked, "No one is telling her to do this. Her biggest fear is becoming Debbie Gibson."

October 8, 2003 - The Associated Press reports a spokeswoman for Maryland's first lady, Kendel Ehrlich, says the governor's wife made an "inadvertent figure of speech" last Friday when she spoke about shooting singer Britney Spears. "As a working mother raising a 4-year-old son, the first lady has concerns about the negative influences that the entertainment industry can have on young children and teenagers," said Ehrlich's spokeswoman Meghann Siwinski in a statement on Tuesday. At first they were all calm, ordering their drinks (two venti fraps[caramel and vanilla creme] and a grande hot chocolate), but as they were waiting for the orders to come up, they started horsing around.
