January 26, 2004 - Billboard profiled how many of music's reigning divas such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Pink are partying like it's 1999, even though the world has become a darker, more uncertain and more anxious place since Sept. 11, 2001. With the economy in a funk and record sales down for three years running, even established artists are sexing it up - no doubt encouraged by edgy industry executives. The problem is, the public just doesn't seem to be in the mood for it, and the recent mediocre album sales by Spears, Pink and similar artists may reflect a classic case of mismarketing. Read more.

January 26, 2004 -  Anonymous writes "HI, I am anonymous, and I just want to say as anonymous about my opinion on Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. What's the big deal about the two? Why are they always being compared? It's completely pointless to compare, don't you think? Britney was made to become the basic "pop image" or the "whole package" that most of you Britney fans might say. She sticked to pretty much the same pop formula that she can't help but still follow, since it’s what made her famous to begin with." Read more.

His grasp of the marriage covenant and its importance in society was astounding. Max has learned what much of the world has forgotten: The marriage of a man and a woman is the foundation of society. This leaves me a few questions for some of you that care so much about record sales. Why do you care? January 22, 2004 - keepthepeace writes "I recently heard the places where Britney Spears' Onyx Hotel Tour will go. One state noticeably absent was her home state of Louisiana. I think that a lot of her fans in Louisiana got her to where she is today. Over the years I've also noticed how a lot of people are becoming non-fans due to the fact that she won't come here for a tour. Of those three, unfortunately and all of whom have an unfavorable or negative image in the eyes of the public is Britney Spears who has the most negative image of all, I'm sorry to say. What's interesting about Britney Spears is 66 percent negative or unfavorable. Older Americans, 65 and plus, have the most negative image of all, interestingly, they know who she is. She's inspired millions of preadolescent females to learn to shake their little booties at a very young age. You've got to catch them young, and it's touching to see how well her little followers have learned their lesson: To be female (even if you're only 8) means to sport tight hip-hugger pants, cropped camisoles, high-heeled sandals and a lot of eye shadow." January 14, 2004 - Lynn Crosbie of the Globe and Mail sounded off on Britney Spears' problems after the singer was married and annulled to ring in the new year to childhood friend Jason Alexander. Crosbie says, "The slow yet certain plunge of Britney Spears is difficult to assess. More prudent observers would track this decline through sales figures, yet numbers convey only the starkest of narratives. I believe it was the exact moment she kissed the Madonna-viper (who had courted Spears for a long time, wearing her T-shirts and remarking on her, obsessively) that her descent began. Madonna is infamous for a kind of cruelty that always seems to originate in seduction (Sandra Bernhardt is painfully articulate on this subject), and her affection usually culminates in vicious, public cuts." "That's what works for her," Simpson responded. "That's Britney's thing. She's a very sexy person. That's the way she chooses to sell her career." As for Britney skewing music towards sex first, music second, unlike someone like Jewel, Simpson said, "Yeah, I miss the Jewel who used to sing in wife-beater shirts and jeans with just her guitar on stage. That's what I want to be. Music should not be about your outfit. It shouldn't be about what you're wearing or what your hair looks like. It shouldn't be about your image. It should be about the lyrics and the melody. It should be about what's in your soul." Read more.

Compare them to gay couples who 'understand' each other and commitment but are kept legally single. Should we be more worried about thoughtless, instant, throwaway marriages than same-sex marriages?" Read more.

And I just think it's sad because she's a young, attractive woman with a lot of talent and, you know, has sacrificed dignity for all the celebrity and the money and all that. And I always find that sad because it's not a good role model." She added, "Interestingly enough, the only facts that I got on that, that I read on the air-- because I got a ton of things -- everybody was horrified. What I got on the air was from a guy who introduced himself as a gay Jewish guy. And he has a partner for 14 years, and because he respects religion and the extended family with the children, they've decided not to marry to preserve what he said was the true calling of marriage, which is the joining of a man and a woman. And although they'd want to be married, he felt religiously this was wrong. OK, along comes Britney Spears. He has all these nieces and nephews who come to him and say, Well, then I guess you can married for -- you know, they're little kids. So you just get married overnight? And so he was raging that here she has this ability to be married, to have this sacrament, and she denigrated it. And I thought that was an interesting juxtaposition of points." Read more.

January 12, 2004 - Anonymous writes "Many people have said that this wedding is not a big deal and that no one should care that Britney Spears got married. For it seems that, rather than having it all, in many ways they've got nothing. They seem to care little for those around them and, while they give two fingers to the world, that leaves other pretty little fingers perilously close to a self-destruct button. Felder said couples sometimes opt for an annulment to avoid the stigma of a divorce, paving the way for a church-sanctioned marriage in the future. January 7, 2004 - Harvey Levin from 'Celebrity Justice' was on CNN's 'Live Today' on Tuesday to discuss Britney Spears' annulled wedding to childhood pal Jason Alexander, which he thought was an interesting legal case. "Because in Nevada, happen to have the law here, in Nevada there are requirements for getting a marriage annulled," the lawyer explained. "And the only real basis that she would have for getting it annulled, which means it never really happened in the first place, would be if she could prove she had a lack of understanding. Now, typically -- we went back and looked at the law. There are cases as early as 1925 in Nevada were people proved that by showing they were so drunk they didn't have the ability to form a thought. Well, she's not alleging that. She's just saying, You know, we didn't think it through. Technical that may not be enough to actually get an annulment in Nevada because they did go to a chapel. They were turned away. They had to go to the marriage license bureau. They had to go back to the chapel. And if the judge were really hard-nosed about it, he might have said, You know what? I don't think you had a lack of understanding, really. But that that's what he said." Read more.

She was dressed down in a trucker hat, ripped jeans and a tiny black crop top. She also had a garter which was given to her by the chapel, on top of her trousers. Her tummy was sticking right out but I don't think it was from a lot of drinking or eating. Her chauffeur walked her down the aisle and when she got to the end she was nearly in tears. She held on to Jason and they looked like high school sweethearts. The reverend married them in a quick five-minute ceremony. They had none of their own vows and Britney was really quick to say 'I do'. When they were told they could kiss, they did. They stood there hugging and laughing and holding hands. She then burst into tears but was smiling as she did so. She had her picture taken, which was part of the package. She was also given a T-shirt from the chapel." Read more.
