May 31, 2004 - Anonymous writes "I work at Baked Goo's (a bakery outside of Kentwood) for my summer job. I knew that Britney Spears was from Kentwood, which is close to my town. My stomach dropped when I saw her and a guy walk through our door two days ago. I'm such a fan! The guy she was with had a little mustache and a slight goatee. He was wearing a Lakers baseball cap and he looked about her age. He looked kinda like Justin, but I don't think it was him. He wasn't as cute! He got a coffee and she got a slice of cream pie. The funny part is that when she ordered it I said, "You can eat this stuff and still keep that body?", and she said, "I basically eat whatever I want." Then they got a to go box and left. there were like four guys there taking pictures of them, so I'm sure the pictures will surface somewhere. Anyway never thought I'd meet a celebrity! Just thought it was cool!"

Their job is to keep her well away from booze and provide round-the-clock emotional support. "Everyone's been very concerned about Britney's mental state since the Las Vegas stunt," revealed a source in Spears' camp. "She went home to her family afterwards and had a mini-meltdown. May 31, 2004 - Avril Lavigne spoke with Jane Stevenson of the Winnipeg Sun and again gave her opinion on Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, expressing a clear preference regarding her more scantily clad contemporaries. "I personally look at that stuff, and watch it and think it's really cheesy," said Lavigne. "And I think it's kind of nasty. May 31, 2004 - Kevin Federline's aunt Diane Story is defending Britney Spears from charges that she's a homewrecker after she began dating Kevin, who was living with his 7-months pregnant girlfriend Shar Jackson. "Their romantic relationship had been over before Britney," Story tells Us Weekly. "But he is giving her money and taking care of his responsibilities." "I kind of like this about Britney - when she makes great pop records like 'Baby One More Time' and 'Toxic', they're great pop records," Cowell said. May 24, 2004 - Britney Spears wore a black Birmingham Barons baseball cap for the video to her new single 'Everytime', and the minor league team's general manager and president Tony Ensor tells The Associated Press the organization already has noticed a slight increase in hat sales from the Spears connection. "You can see a blip. It's not Earth shattering," said Ensor. Asked why Spears chose the Barons hat for the video, Ensor responded: "We can only assume it's because the `B' stands for Britney." May 24, 2004 - Britney Spears 55-hour husband Jason Alexander sat down with GQ magazine for a Q&A and was asked if all the attention their quickie Las Vegas wedding received was a shock for him. May 24, 2004 - Naomi Judd was on the Fox News Channel's 'Heartland' with John Kasich on Saturday to promote her new book 'Naomi's Breakthrough Guide: 20 Choices to Transform Your Life'. The conservative pundit asked the country singer if she thought Britney Spears was "out of control". Judd responded, "I think she is. I sincerely do. We only get to be welcomed once. She was victimized by the silly pop culture that turns pre-teens into little sluts. But I think you only get to be a victim once. After that, you are a volunteer. Unfortunately, she didn't have the right people around her and she's probably the biggest purveyor in the world of this nonsense. One big problem is people don't know who the heck they are. They are not defined from within. And Britney Spears is the poster child for that. We have followers following followers in this country. May 24, 2004 - Us Weekly reports Britney Spears and new boyfriend Kevin Federline have cut a deal while she's touring Europe. Spears' long kiss with back-up dancer Leo has been cut from the Onyx Hotel set, while Kevin promised not to do with her what he did with pregnant ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson. A source revealed, "Brit made him promise not to fool around, so Kevin thinks she should do the same. It's only fair."

May 24, 2004 - Dr. Howard Lancer has a sun exposure warning for Britney Spears. The dermatologist tells In Touch Weekly: "Sun damage at any age leads to skin damage. She is risking her skin if she lies in the sun a lot." Lancer suggests Spears should follow the lead of pop rival Jessica Simpson, who gets her bronzed look from self-tanners.

May 24, 2004 - According to the National Enquirer, before Britney Spears visited the Bulldog Palace cafe in Amsterdam to smoke marijuana with boyfriend Kevin Federline, the singer was almost seriously injured while partying at the city's hot new club Jimmy Woo. "She nearly fell face first down a flight of stairs," an eyewitness revealed. "Her feet slipped from under her and it could have been a nasty fall - but at the last second, she grabbed a handrail and smashed against the wall as she stumbled. She had a big bodyguard with her and he grabbed her and supported her the rest of the way down the stairs. Later she had to go on the roof for some fresh air because she didn't feel too good. Then she made a getaway down an outside fire escape."

May 24, 2004 - In Touch Weekly reports Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were spotted smoking pot in Amsterdam at The Bulldog coffee shop on May 6th. Marc van der Vlies said, "Britney was smoking a joint, for sure. She was in a very good mood. She said to Kevin, 'I love the smell of it, it's really awesome'." Dennis van Telligen, who photographed the couple, added, "She was still holding a joint when she walked away from the table. She was dancing and laughing. They obviously had a lot of fun."

May 24, 2004 - Jay Leno joked during the end of his Tonight Show monologue on Friday night, "Finally, oh, Britney Spears -- kind of sad. Britney Spears was so upset at the reviews of her new stage show, at her concert, she ran off the stage crying. May 24, 2004 - Star magazine is profiling the "first fight" between Britney Spears and her new lover Kevin Federline while they are together in Europe on her Onyx Hotel tour. After partying at Cafe Ketchup in Copenhagen, a source said "Britney was all over Kevin, kissing and cuddling him," but later in the evening at the Pan Gay Club, Britney started getting tanked on vodka and whiskey. After demanding more and more booze, the bartender refused her service because his station closed. An employee at the bar revealed: "By five in the morning, Kevin wanted to go home, and it looked like he and Britney had an argument about it. She disappeared into the bathroom - as she had done numerous times during the night - and when she came back she took off hand-in-hand with one of her dancers, without letting Kevin know, and left him behind." Federline looked outside for Spears, but ended up having to get a taxi back to their hotel. The next night, the couple sat stoney-faced in the back of a limo to Britney's gig in the city. She rushed straight past them with her baseball cap pulled right down over her eyes," an onlooker revealed. "But everyone could see she had been crying her eyes out on the limo journey. Writer Kenneth Wright says, "You can see the well-meaning thinking behind this approach: the message that if the beautiful and famous can get a bit fragile sometimes, then the humbler citizens of the slightly askew alternative world of mental illness need not be ashamed. But being a celebrity isn’t a detail; it makes everything different, especially the way the world sees you, which is a large part of the burden of being mentally ill. May 20, 2004 - World Entertainment News Network reports Britney Spears was slammed for wearing a rude T-shirt after ordering a frozen blended vanilla latte in a Los Angeles coffee shop by a lady in line behind her who noticed her 'Fu** You' logo on her clothing. "Shame on you," the angry mother told Spears. "Don't you know you're meant to be a role model for kids like my teenage daughter? Your shirt is offensive, and so are you." The outburst proved too much for Spears, who swiftly exited without her drink.

May 2, 2004 - The Associated Press reports a Canadian man who entered the property of pop star Britney Spears' father was arrested on charges of criminal trespassing and stalking. Daniel J. Lachance, 25, was being held on $150,000 bond in the Tangipahoa Parish jail on Wednesday, Sheriff's spokeswoman Patti Giannoble said. May 2, 2004 - Globe magazine spoke with Don Austen, a suicide prevention counselor and founder of the organization Thursday's Child about Britney Spears' controversial new video 'Everytime'. "Britney Spears is one of the most influential teen role models on the planet, and this video is frightening in terms of its potential repercussions," Austen said. "When kids see this video over and over on MTV, it has a desensitizing effect. There are a lot of confused kids around, and Britney's not considering the copycat effect. Instead, she's selfishly using controversy to market herself."
