Friday's Today Show performance
had the biggest crowd that the show has seen since it began doing it's
Friday concerts. The crowd size no doubt was helped by the fact that school
is out as most of the audience seemed to be school aged kids.
Britney
began by being interviewed by Katie Couric where she asked Britney about
her hectic schedule. Britney says it sometimes is hard to sleep after doing
performances but lately she hasn't had a problem. Couric asked about her
mom and the book and Britney explained that it's cool to have a friendship
with your mom, though they've had their moments of tension. When asked
about rumors and gossip about her, she said initially it was hard to deal
with but now she doesn't think much about it. Couric attemped to ask her
about the $10 offer for a Texas millionaire to try to get to know her better
but for some reason Britney didn't know what she was talking about.
When Britney performed, she
sang Baby One More Time followed by Lucky. Her performance had it's moments
of imperfection, when her mic seemed to hit her chin a few times and didn't
seem to be staying in place. In addition, the aucoustics of Rockefeller
Center made her performance the most authentic to date. Britney's voice
cracked several times and the background singing that normally absorbed
those imperfections wasn't there. Britney then had a few words with Katie,
and when she called Couric ma'am, she snapped "Don't call me ma'am!" seeming
to have a midlife crisis as she spoke with the younger Spears. Britney
apologized and then sang Oops... I Did it Again for her final song.
