October 31, 2002 - Popdirt.com's latest poll asking fans how well the expected Christina Aguilera's new album 'Stripped' to do in first week sales had most either thinking overly optimistic or overly pessimistic. Nearly 42% said she'd sell over 600,000 copies, while almost 20% said she wouldn't even sell 100,000 units. According to HitsDailyDouble.com, based on one-day sales, Aguilera will sell between 300-325,000 copies, a figure only 5.32% selected. Meanwhile, Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter looks set to sell around 100,000, while Eminem looks set to dominate with his '8 Mile' soundtrack selling between 700-800,000 copies. Read more. October 30, 2002 - Craig Seymour of Entertainment Weekly reviewed Christina Aguilera's new album 'Stripped', giving it a grade of C+. Seymour says the new album "comes off like a desperate bid for musical relevance" and has "a cluttered patchwork purse of sounds." He added, "Aguilera's performance seems genuinely aching. Unlike other singers with her range, she seldom tries to sound ethereally pretty (Mariah Carey) or overly controlled (Whitney Houston) --- but she's not afraid to revel in her own vocal power." October 30, 2002 - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports a decade-old push by mass marketers to erase the stigma attached to being "dirty" is gaining momentum. "When I hear the word 'dirty,' I guess I think of the Dirty Bird [dance], the Dirty South [rap lingo], Dirty Girl beauty products, dirty denim and now Christina [Aguilera's] new song," said Ashley Strahan, a second-year fashion merchandising student at Bauder College in Buckhead. ''The only disappointment we have is that it hasn't done as well at radio as we believe it should have. As far as what else 'Dirrty' has done? People are talking about the song and the video. "I never in a million years expected her to gravitate towards that," says Perry. "And when she did, it was hard for me to let go of that song, because it's really special for me. Her pyrotechnic prowess was on display in 'Impossible,' a bluesy jam that she penned with fellow charttopper Alicia Keys. Sims of Fox News reports that with pop stars now entering their 20s, many are eager to shed their adolescent image. *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake and his Backstreet Boys counterpart Nick Carter each are releasing their debut solo albums and are trying to shed the sweet for sultry. "Fourteen-year-olds are over Justin, but women in their 20s now think he's hot," said Atoosa Rubenstein, editor of Cosmo Girl. On the female side, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera have each sexed up their images, which may turn off some teens. "As Britney has changed her image, there is a direct correlation with her drop in popularity," said Rubenstein. "Aguilera's new video is one step away from pornography. According to the Canadian International Translation Service in Toronto who interpreted the posters, one sentence translates to "Sex Tourism Of Thailand," and the other reads, "Drink For The Black Dog."

Members weighed in enthusiastically with nearly 90% of those who voted, rating the song awesome or good. This one day total for a First Listen surpasses the previous record held by Britney Spears for 'Boys (Co-ed Remix),' from the Austin Powers in Goldmember soundtrack, which was streamed 1.35 million times in 24 hours. October 19, 2002 - MTV's Total Request Live talked about the new controversy Christina Aguilera's video for 'Dirrty' is having in Thailand. The video features posters that say "Thailand's sex tourism" and "young, underaged girls." A spokesperson says Christina had no idea about the translations and that the posters were obtained by a non-Thai speaking member of the video director's company. Guest host Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs asked Suchin Pak what she thought of the video. Suchin said, "I think it's definitely something to talk about. I don't know if I like it or hate it but, you know... A little different. A little 'Dirrty'."

October 18, 2002 - Lloyd Grove of The Washington Post got another e-mail from a London-based American who says he spotted Lance Bass of *NSYNC too. "I am quite sure that Mr. Bass was in London on Saturday night," the e-mailer revealed. "I sat next to him at the Mayfair Club in London. He was there for the PR party for his band mate Justin Timberlake's solo album. I didn't talk to him, he doesn't seem like a very intellectual chap, but I can report that Mr. Timberlake was getting very friendly with one Mme. Christina Aguilera."

October 17, 2002 - Star magazine reports celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, and Paula Abdul flock to the Uvasun tanning center in West Hollywood. They don't use the passe cancer causing tanning beds, but instead use the center's safe airbrush spray-tan called Mystic Tan. You may not recognize them there though, because no makeup is allowed for the treatment.

October 17, 2002 - The Mirror reports pop diva Christina Aguilera went into a fury after a minder showed up with Evian water for the singer at the MTV studios in London this week. A source revealed, "She wanted 10 bottles of still, frozen mineral water, 10 more chilled and 10 to be at room temperature. A BMG Thailand representative said that they have already told about this to RCA, and want to hear the apology from Christina. Britney's rival arrived at Chinawhite with her 12-strong entourage, including rapper Redman and two bodyguards when she caught the attention of Timberlake. They played their "who can buy the most expensive bottle of champagne" competition before Aguilera left at 1:30 am. Bronson said, "Radio certainly hasn't responded, and having heard 'Dirrty,' I can understand why. In its fifth chart week, the song declines 48-50, having peaked at No. 48 two weeks ago. So, uhm it's -- just my way of makin' it kind of personal and say it a bit differently if you want to go there." "You could take 'Dirrty' off the album and it makes sense. The rest of the album sounds -- she's still got those lungs and that voice. The group downed 50 mojitos and two bottles of vodka before engaging in rounds of lap-dancing. "It was definitely hot," said a spy.

October 6, 2002 - christinaFETISH of the Christina Aguilera LiveDaily.com forum posted her experience at Red Rock Sollan on Saturday where MTV hosted a secret party for Aguilera. The fan revealed that during rehearsals of her performance, she took a photo and one of Aguilera's bodyguards asked to see the photo. He wanted the fan to delete it, but they said they only could on their computer, so the bodyguard confiscated the memory chip. Later, when Christina was hanging out in the bar, MTV staffers told the fans not to stare at her. Despite some of the diva-like behavior, Aguilera was "just the sweetest person in the world," because she signed an autograph on a napkin for her. She added, "As she left I got to say goodbye to her and kinda hold her hand as she walked away. I grabbed it and held it for a bit, as if I werent going to see her again. October 5, 2002 - A petition has emerged in an effort to get Christina Aguilera's new video for 'Dirrty' off MTV. The petition states, "We the normal, civilized people that we are, should ban Christina Aguilera latest slut fest video 'Dirrty'. This should not be aired to kids on MTV! Some of the things shown in the video are sexual dance moves (Christina pounces up and down on a mans crouch; She is show wearing almost nothing - having girls touch her sexually; She has a big 'shower scene' in the video where her and tons of girls are taking a shower almost naked together, rubbing each other suggestively), almost a orgy, nudity (We can see Christina's butt under a skirt) and the songs content is needless to say dirty." October 4, 2002 - Stuart Derdeyn of The Vancouver Province reports Christina Aguilera's 'Dirrty' video was a big hit with MuchMusic viewers when it debuted Tuesday night, though viewers were given an advisory before the song. "This video was referred to our internal review committee and found to be acceptable," says Sarah Crawford, VP of public affairs at CHUM TV. "Right now it has to air with a viewer discretion advisory noting that there are themes of sexuality and imagery in the video." Read more.

Nighttime DJ Chris K. writes to an e-mailer in Peru, "Please tell me where you are hearing that we don't play 'Dirrty'? We do play the song, granted not much, because it is not a hit. I am getting very irritated from these pointless e-mails from people who don't even listen to our radio station. Your e-mails will not get the song played more on our radio station. I couldn't care less about what people outside of Sacramento say about the song, I only care about our listeners and it appears that they don't particularly like the song. So please tell your fan group or whoever is behind all these e-mails to please stop." Read more.
