same unflattering words smeared about in reaction to her last single, 'Dirrty',

each and every member of a gentlemen's boxing club?" Read more.

she's a very talented person -- she can dance, she can sing, her body is
banging -- but I don't like her music. I just think, Christina can actually
sing. She only weighs two pounds, but she can sing. I only buy boy stuff
though. I couldn't imagine being a little kid right now and wanting a CD
so bad. When I was little we didn't have that. I didn't get into New Kids
on the Block when I was little because I was too indie and new wave to
do that. But, now I get it and I'm old." Read more.

so focused on her career that she didn't overdo the partying. But as her

Hardy of LA Weekly shared his thoughts on both *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake
and Christina Aguilera, and their urban transformation. Regarding Aguilera,
Hardy said, "She's unable to transcend clichéd — and often self-defeating
— definitions of freedom and female power. The result is an album that
shape-shifts from one femme prototype to another with grim determination:
She wants to be Madonna, Wendy O. Williams and a weepily defiant Mariah,
all at once. In the end, Christina herself barely registers at all." Read

December 15, 2002 - Rob Harvilla
of the Cleveland Scene wrote a highly critical review of most music magazines
including Rolling Stone. He writes, "The November 14 issue of Rolling Stone
-- featuring a naked Christina Aguilera, her clad-only-in-boots body spread
across a red silk sheet, a guitar she has no idea how to play draped across
her bare torso and barely covering her left nipple -- offers proof a-plenty
as to why music snobs have beaten Rolling Stone like a gong for the last
two decades. The mag is 35 years old now and brutally denounced as a culturally
irrelevant, out-of-touch dinosaur act, reminiscent of the band that shares
its name." Read more.

frontman Dave Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins shared their thoughts on

December 13, 2002 - Yushaimi
Yahaya of The New Straits Times Press weighed in on Christina Aguilera
and her new album 'Stripped'. Yahaya said, "'Stripped' it's yucky, really,
when you start to think that the world will adore you more if you transform
from Little Missy Next Door to Little Missy Cleavage just to stay in the
limelight. It works for some, and I sure have no complaints about seeing
skin, but revealing too much at times is a turn-off – indicative of someone
trying too darn hard to impress." Read more.

Carpico of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette spoke with North Hills High School

selling a single from the album to benefit the Children's Hospital Free
Care Fund. Her song 'Only When I Close My Eyes' has been a big hit on local
radio station WBZZ B-94 and has already had some comparing her to another
hometown girl, Christina Aguilera. "When I was little, I knew I wanted
to be a performer," she said. She named Whitney Houston as an influence
but does not like the pop music image that surrounds Britney Spears. "I
am still trying to establish what genre of music I want to get into. I
am staying away from the pop icon like Britney. I think an artist who writes
her own music gets more respect," said Mulgrew, who uses the name B.L.
Mulgrew as a singer to avoid association with Spears. Listen to Mulgrew's
single and read more here.
December 9, 2002 - Cheryl
Lu-Lien Tan of the Baltimore Sun reports the necktie has sprung into fashion
thanks to Avril Lavigne and Michelle Branch being amongst the stars sporting
the accessory normally reserved for businessmen. The fashion trend appears
to be part of anti-Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera risque outfits
trend. "Britney and Christina were all about being sexual in a very overt
way," said Elizabeth Kiester, fashion director of YM. Lavigne and her cohorts
"are expressing their feminine power in a more realistic and more non-threatening
way. They're embracing their femininity and saying, 'You don't have to
show your belly button, you don't have to wear a corset top with your breasts
falling out of it to be beautiful.'" Read more.
December 9, 2002 - The Daily
Yomiuri reports Christina Aguilera says all the commotion about her video
'Dirrty' has a lot more to do with her being female than with the content
of the video. "In 'She Bangs,' Ricky Martin basically has an orgy shower
scene, and Prince is allowed to show his butt cheeks. Why can't I express
myself?" Aguilera asked during a recent press conference at a Tokyo hotel
to help promote her album 'Stripped'. "I'm young and a female who is comfortable
with her body and her sexuality. I wanted to step out of the bounds of
what a female artist can and cannot do." Read more.

Nichols of Vibe magazine reviewed Christina Aguilera's new album 'Stripped'
and stated, "Her controversial image and the 'Dirrty' video have overshadowed
the album’s strengths," Nichols said. "Aguilera has definitely matured
from her 'Genie in a Bottle' days, but her overly sexual image could use
some work. As for musical skills, she’s pretty much there. 'Stripped' is
a daring celebration of her diverse musical tastes and stunning voice.
Now all she needs to do is strip herself of her X-rated pretenses and put
some clothes on." Read more.
December 8, 2002 - Shannon
McCarthy of Get Real Detroit chatted with Nerf Herder singer/guitarist
Parry Gripp and asked if he thought that Christina Aguilera really is a
nasty whore or is it all an act for publicity. "I think it’s all publicity,"
Gripp said. "I guess if you’re in that position of having popularity, at
least in a pop sense, you have to change what you’re doing or else people
will forget about you. I think she’s doing it to have a comeback, trying
to be really nasty. I’m not sure if it’s working." He added, "She’s probably
not nasty. I don’t know; she hasn’t had sex with me yet, so she’s not nasty
enough. I’m just kidding." Read more.
December 8, 2002 - Kelly
Osbourne commented on Christina Aguilera to writer Santi Pintado saying,

was ridiculous." Read more.

an anthem, I think." Before the video played, guest Nick Cannon joked about
the 'Dirrty' video, "You know I was supposed to be in that video but they
didn't have a g-string that really fit me you know what I'm sayin'," adding,

national TV. One of the biggest shows in the world and I have the microphone
so Christina Aguilera, I got to ask you this right now if you'll go out
with me. I'm dirrty, too. I'm dirrty too. I'm dirrty so dirrty you don't
even know how dirrty I am." While the 'Dirrty' video played, Benji added,
"Christina, Christina, Christina I'm serious I'll borrow my mom's car,
I work at MTV and got a couple bucks in my pocket. I swear I'm really dirrty,

Mohan of The Sun spoke with Pink and told the singer he believed her success
has inspired Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera to copy her style. "I
like pop music — I once went to a New Kids On The Block concert. I think
Britney in particular is a hard-working lady, honestly," Pink responded.
"I don’t listen to her kind of music, it's not my thing, but I would never
disrespect her because she works damn freaking hard and she’s young and
I'm sure she’s stressed. Her image, and Christina Aguilera’s, have changed
so much over the last few years. I think they are copying me. Whatever
works you just follow it, I guess. Some people have their own identity
and others don’t." Read more.

Bromstein of Now Toronto gave a tale of the tape featuring Latin diva's
Christina Aguilera and Shakira. She writes, "Many have tried and failed
to become the Latin Diva. Christina Aguilera even went so far as to release
an album in Spanish, learning the lyrics phonetically. Until recently,
she held the title of the 'thinking man's Britney.' Now that Shakira is
crossing boundaries to sing in English, can Christina hold onto that sceptre,
or will the red-hot Latina usurp the throne?" Check out the comparative
run-down here.
