July 31, 2003 - Ben Rayner of the Toronto Star reviewed the 'Justina' tour stop at the Air Canada Centre on Tuesday night (July 29). Rayner said of *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake, "Timberlake compensates ably for his so-so falsetto and nondescript r'n'b-lite material like 'Senorita' and 'Like I Love You' with some serious moves." He added that "Aguilera's the real singer of the two" but "most times, unfortunately, the slightly stiff and uncomfortable-looking Aguilera was swallowed up by an extravagantly pretentious production that had her poppin' wheelies on a motorcycle, writhing against a chain-link fence, clambering up and down a mid-stage jungle gym with her dancers and, in the most gauche segment, emerging from the shadows crucified on a giant steel 'X'." July 31, 2003 - Ben Rayner of the Toronto Star spoke with Christina Aguilera about her current tour with *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake, her "maturing sound", the diva talk, movie plans, and trouble coming up with the word "guillotine". On the subject of movies, Aguilera says, "I'm trying to buckle down for the right script, find it, 'cause it just has to be right. I'm not gonna half-ass it. I'd love to have that all in the works before I do my next album, hopefully, because that's the next thing I haven't done yet ... The movie thing is kind of a puzzle right now because I know exactly the kind of character that'll have to come to me. I know it's gotta be unexpected and kinda different, maybe a little quirky. I tend to like the roles that Angelina Jolie plays because she's not afraid to kinda take it there, to an outer limit, and push boundaries and kinda play someone who might be a little eccentric or kinda crazy." July 31, 2003 - Ananova.com reports that Jim O'Neill, chairman of the Professional Association of Teachers, says scantily dressed pop singers like Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera are pressuring grade school girls into wearing clothes that are too adult for them. "Britney Spears was promoted as being ideal for girls - the virgin thing and everything else," O'Neill said. "Now that seems to have gone - she's quite raunchy now, when I think back to the fact she was projected as this country girl with flowing skirts and petticoats." He was asking her about the music industry and how there is so much female competition. Mojo said after the interview, "It was one of those things where you were not allowed to ask him about certain things. Number one on the list, you could not ask him about Christina Aguilera. July 27, 2003 - Joshua Klein of the Chicago Tribune reviewed the Justified & Stripped tour stop at the Allstate Arena on Tuesday (July 22). Klein says Christina Aguilera's "voice, not to mention the charisma-deficient singer herself, was lost amid all the mechanical thrills." As for *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake, Klein says the singer "has made a much smoother transition to maturity... July 27, 2003 - Jae-Ha Kim of the Chicago Sun-Times reviewed the first of two consecutive Chicago-area shows Tuesday (July 22) at Rosemont's Allstate Arena. Kim says of *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake: "Looking lean and buff in baggy white slacks and a sleeveless hoodie, Timberlake showed off some intricate dance moves of the pop- and-lock kind that suited his musical style." As for Christina Aguilera, Kim says, "That Aguilera has a strong, beautiful voice is undeniable regardless of what you think of her songs. She was completely comfortable performing a brilliantly theatrical version of 'Contigo en la Distancia.' And on her current album, 'Stripped,' it's evident she has grown into her booming voice. July 21, 2003 - Thom Smith of the Palm Beach Post Staff reviewed the Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera show at Office Depot Center in Sunrise, where the *NSYNC star's girlfriend Cameron Diaz held court, and much was made over Aguilera's weight gain. "While Diaz's lanky 5-9 fits comfortably with Timberlake's 6-1, Aguilera still measures 5 foot 3 (on her toes maybe), although on her earlier tour she looked tall and thin," Smith explained. "Gone is the blond with the six-pack abs from February's Maxim. Wednesday's Christina had a tummy, and her flanks bulged over her spandex. Her simple encore costume -- jeans and a white T-shirt with the phrase 'God Sees No Color' -- made her look even heavier. Backstage, the extra weight was obvious. July 20, 2003 - NSYNC star Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera performed in front of more than 10,000 screaming young fans on Wednesday night at the Office Depot Center, and Sean Piccoli of the Sun-Sentinel reviewed the show. He says, "Both are trying to outgrow the 'teen' label but keep a large chunk of that audience as it ages. This maturation project took place on a sort of industrial-grade jungle gym of a stage. Oddly, it was Timberlake who appeared more prepared than Aguilera to step into the role of solo adult pop star. Asked about how she is able to sing and dance around on stage, Aguilera responded, "Well, to me, the choreography is secondary to the music. The other night I came offstage and was like, 'I don't care if I missed a dance step, but my voice was weak!' This show is very different from what you might've envisioned having seen [the video for] 'Genie in a Bottle' and all that choreographed stuff from the last album. "I weaned her off burgers. She just wasn’t getting enough nutrition. She’s eating lots of carbs so she has more stamina for her dancing. And her workout has totally changed."

July 18, 2003 - Jim Abbott of the Orlando Sentinel reviewed the Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera concert at at TD Waterhouse Centre on Tuesday. Abbott says Aguilera is "a better vocalist than Timberlake, though the former *NSYNC star stole the show with a combination of musicality and easy showmanship. A band with a funky rhythm section and three horn players charged the Justified songs with enough energy to offset Timberlake's obvious debt to Michael Jackson for his vocal nuances and dance moves." July 18, 2003 - vtg writes "I have been reading all reviews for the Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera tour to see what I could expect at the concert. I was pleasantly surprised some of them (the negative ones) were way off. Maybe he's been taking the constructive criticism to heart because the *NSYNC star's vocals were on the money. He hit his falsetto notes with ease and danced/beatboxed his way into the hearts of the few males in the crowd. My husband was amazed on the good time he had. Christina proved herself to be the #1 singer in existence. She hit the notes Mariah Carey used to hit a while back (not to say Mariah can't sing anymore, she can). "I've never co-headlined before, but Justin and I make a perfect combination," she explained. "We came out with albums at the same time, and we're both kind of reinventing ourselves - he as a new solo artist, me really coming out as an artist for the first time."

July 14, 2003 - Fans on hand at the Justified and Stripped concert in Memphis on Friday night complained to WMC-TV about the outrageously expensive tickets for the Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake concert. Fans paid anywhere from $32 to $64 and that doesn't include parking to see their hometown *NSYNC star. "Ticket prices are outrageously crazy," said a fan. "Considering most people that go to these concerts are in college are teenagers, we don't have very much money but we have to spend so much for these tickets," added another. "To get two little kids in, it's costing an arm and a leg." This fan said, "Well, I believe they've gotten out of hand. I believe Ticketmaster needs to go to jail because they're charging too much." While Laura Morgan, entertainment editor of Seventeen, which is putting Moore on its cover next month, was full of props for Mandy, the singer/actress was quick to give praise herself to peers Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. "I have a lot of respect for Britney and Christina," Moore said. "With the barrage of media they've had to go through, it's admirable how they've come out and appear to be independent, strong-minded and confident young women." For her part, Morgan says, "Mandy presents the image [of a] young, smart girl," and, with Britney or Christina, "the life they lead is so different from the average girl's. July 9, 2003 - The Enquirer reports that Christina Aguilera was recently eating a vegetarian meal at a Persian restaurant in Hollywood and asked for a container to bring the leftovers home, but was infuriated after the waiter brought her a Styrofoam box back. Aguilera called for the manager and tried to lecture him about the environmental dangers of Styrofoam, but since the guy barely spoke English, he had no idea what she was trying to stay. Frustrated, Christina left without her leftovers.

July 9, 2003 - TRL co-host Hilarie Burton spoke with CosmoGIRL magazine about how she was initially miffed at Christina Aguilera after getting snubbed on her first assignment with MTV as a contest winner at the VMA's, only to have the singer apologize when they later met. "When I was on the red carpet at the VMA's as a contest winner, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears wouldn't stop to talk to me," Hilarie explained. "You can actually see them blowing me off on camera! The next day on TRL, when Carson asked me about it, I said, 'Whatever, they didn't win anyway.' But my bosses thought it was hilarious. They showed the scenes of Christina blowing me off as one of the top moments on TRL end-of-the-year countdown! Well, a few months later at the Grammys, Christina apologized to me on the air! I was like 'Whoa! She was so nice!'"

July 7, 2003 - Kevin C. Johnson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reviewed the Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera concert at the Savvis Center on Saturday night. Johnson says, "Both artists performed appealingly flashy sets of about 75 minutes each that often relied heavily on superficial strengths. There was nothing especially substantive about either set, but for pure entertainment value from the season's sole superstar pop tour, the pair delivered." Read more.

July 6, 2003 - MTV News spoke with Frankie Muniz, who talked about his Los Angeles home that is nearby severa fellow stars. "I live in a pretty celebrity-filled area," explained the 'Malcolm in the Middle' star, who just bought his first house but hasn't had a chance to settle in. "Christina Aguilera lives right up the street, Halle Berry, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire. Keanu Reeves just bought a house [nearby]. It's pretty crazy." He stopped to laugh. July 6, 2003 - Ramiro Burr of the San Antonio Express-News reviewed Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera's show at SBC Center on Saturday night. Burr said of Justin, "Through his dance moves, his energetic singing and especially his confidence he exuded, Timberlake seemed a natural on stage and a viable talent beyond his old group *NSYNC." As for Aguilera, he remarked, "Ultimately, Aguilera has the vocal power but needs work on her stage show. July 4, 2003 - The Dallas Morning News reports Christina Aguilera checked into Hotel ZaZa last week the night before her big American Airlines Center with *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake, where she fell in love with the French-style monkey lamp in her hotel suite. She asked ZaZa management to name its price. It did, and the lamp has now joined the 'Justified and Stripped' tour. He said "Aguilera clearly has vocal talent, her best weapon in the quest for pop-star staying power. Although she is prone to Mariah Carey-style histrionics - 'oooEEEEooooOOOeeeoooOOOeeee' is a common, irritating line - she proved on Etta James' 'At Last' and Patti LaBelle's 'Lady Marmalade' that she's capable of hitting the high notes without sacrificing a song's central soul." Baca says, "The show provided a curious juxtaposition of talent. Aguilera's costume-heavy production values were an indulgent introduction to Timberlake's penchant for simplistic athletic gear/leather jacket. His tracks, most of which were produced by uber-producers The Neptunes, outfunked Aguilera's pseudo-industrial cheerleader rock. But her bondage-inspired dancing outdid Timberlake's boy- band moves, which strayed ever so slightly to pay homage to his hero Michael Jackson. But ultimately, both performers were disappointing." July 1, 2003 - A petition to get MTV to change its mind and play the Christina Aguilera video 'Can't Hold Us Down' featuring Lil' Kim has been posted. The petition states: "I really don't think it's fair that you see artists like D'Angelo NAKED and Typical male artists having strippers and half naked women in their videos, and then Christina makes a sort of Racy video and they tell her to edit."
