Craik of the Scotsman writes, "Here’s a question. How did someone universally
panned as one of the worst dressers on the planet suddenly get to become
star guest at the Paris haute couture shows? Truly, the fashion world is
a funny place. When you think of Christina Aguilera, what’s the first thing
that springs to mind: an exquisitely crafted £10,000 ballgown or
an unlovely, red, PVC basque?" Read more.
January 26, 2004 - Anonymous
writes "Hi y'all, I been noticing lately how some of y'all are writing
these essays about how much Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera have
sold throughout their career and comparing the two, obviously justifying
their talent and status based on numbers, numbers, numbers! This leaves
me a few questions for some of you that care so much about record sales.
Why do you care? The artist, record companies, etc. do care about record
sales whether they admit that or not, because to them, it’s a business,
it’s the way they make the money and make a living." Read more.

resembled four notes from a recent Christina Aguilera song, 'Stripped'.

Anonymous writes "HI, I am anonymous, and I just want to say as anonymous
about my opinion on Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. What's the big
deal about the two? Why are they always being compared? It's completely
pointless to compare, don't you think? Britney was made to become the basic
"pop image" or the "whole package" that most of you Britney fans might
say. She sticked to pretty much the same pop formula that she can't help
but still follow, since it’s what made her famous to begin with." Read

January 26, 2004 - Billboard
profiled how many of music's reigning divas such as Britney Spears, Christina
Aguilera, and Pink are partying like it's 1999, even though the world has
become a darker, more uncertain and more anxious place since Sept. 11,
2001. With the economy in a funk and record sales down for three years
running, even established artists are sexing it up - no doubt encouraged
by edgy industry executives. The problem is, the public just doesn't seem
to be in the mood for it, and the recent mediocre album sales by Spears,
Pink and similar artists may reflect a classic case of mismarketing. Read

writes "Actor Stephen Baldwin was a guest on the 'Late Late Show with Craig
Kilborn' on Monday night where he addressed his liking for pop music -
Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in particular. When asked about the
statements he made in Flaunt magazine about his "pop fetish," Baldwin responded,
"You know, I was in the quote unquote 'Pop Closet' for a long time, but
what's wrong with it? My wife likes it, too. We have a bunch of Britney
Spears and Christina Aguilera CDs lying around the house. But when friends
come over, they ask, 'Are those your kids' CDs?' And we have to kind of
keep it secret.""

love her, now she is sexy." And on *NSYNC: "All these boybands, as much
as they're sold put together... the thing is there is only one star, and
that is Justin Timberlake. So that guy will have a career, as you can see

behind the Scottish Executive's domestic abuse campaign. Christina literally
lent a hand to the hard hitting campaign by providing a handprint and some
signed artwork for an exhibition that will be launched in Scotland this
summer. She says, "Any campaign that raises the public's awareness of the
issue of domestic abuse is worthwhile and I am pleased to support the Scottish
Executive's campaign. My own experience has shown that you can survive
after going through terrible times at home and I give my utmost support
to those women and young people living with the threat of domestic abuse.
I understand that there is a strong support network in Scotland and the
government here raises awareness of how and where to get help. Don't suffer
in silence because help is out there." Read more.

Justin Hawkins tells The Sunday Mail that Aguilera has "got a nice voice
but some of those outfits... I don't buy it. I don't think she's anywhere

I think she's as cold as ice. Anyone who goes on about being that dirty

January 17, 2004 - Singer/pianist
Oleta Adams tells Mark Brown of the Rocky Mountain News she has sympathy
for performers such as Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera - singers who
have genuinely amazing voices, yet seem so lost in their celebrity and
image-making that they don't take advantage of their gift. "But they think
they are - they think they are taking advantage of it," Adams says. "Most
people don't understand what happens when you get in that particular arena.
You've got a lot of people talking to you. It's difficult to maintain what
you had. The focus gets off course." Read more.

has an editorial on the wild behavior coming out of Britney Spears, Charlotte
Church, and Christina Aguilera. The 'Man of The People' argued, "Far from
damning their extreme lifestyles, I really find myself feeling sorry for
these poor little rich girls. For it seems that, rather than having it
all, in many ways they've got nothing. They seem to care little for those
around them and, while they give two fingers to the world, that leaves
other pretty little fingers perilously close to a self-destruct button.
Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised by their antics." Read more.

from his young daughter followign his 1986 divorce from Shelly Kearns.
"Dad was never really there throughout my life - he even suggested I get
adopted by my step-father which I was completely against because I'm Aguilera,"
she said. "I knew some Spanish when I was very little because my father

their bodies - and believe thinner girls have more friends, it emerged
today. A new study shows that, despite the best efforts of health professionals,
young women are more obsessed than ever with losing weight and are convinced
that being thin is the key to being happy and popular. They consider Britney
Spears has the best female body, but the perfect woman is a combination

and stomach), Destiny's Child star Beyonce Knowles (legs), Jennifer Lopez
(bottom) and Britney (arms). Read more.
January 7, 2004 - The Guardian
reports that after being emboldened by such images as Madonna kissing Britney
Spears and Christina Aguilera on the MTV Video Music Awards, girls are
proudly declaring their alternative sexualities at a younger age than ever
before as a wave of "bisexual chic" is sweeping America. "I don't think
it's possible statistically to say it's increasing, but it seems more girls
are comfortable to identify themselves as bisexual," said Denise Pell,
president of BiNet USA, a network for bisexuals. "For some, it may be what
they really feel; others may be questioning themselves and their sexualities;
and it's possible that some are doing it because they think it's chic.
It doesn't necessarily mean these kids are sexually active, but they are
learning about themselves, not just in their sexualities but in their lives
in general. And that should only be encouraged." Read more.

January 4, 2004 - Christina
Aguilera is featured in an interview with UK Company Magazine, where she
lashed out at her father Fausto and brought some additional heat on Eminem
for his lyrical attack on 'The Real Slim Shady'. "That was disgusting,
offensive, and, above all, not true," she said of the Carson Daly and Fred
Durst oral attack. "If he's going to be immature, that's his thing. I'm
not going to feed into it. Whatever. Maybe he did it to make sure he had
a hit, even at the expense of using other people's names or dissing them.
If that's what you have to do to make a hit record, that's pretty sad.
It's pointless to say anything more about a guy who's basically retarded,
for lack of a better word. When the Eminem controversy erupted, my stepfather
was furious - he was ready to get on a plane and kick Eminem's ass. It's
good to have that support." Check out a transcript of the interview here.

on and made a few wisecracks about Mandy Moore and Mariah Carey. Griffin
also shared a story about Christina Aguilera throwing a diva act after

Love Hewitt, and the sassy strut that ensued once she was convinced to
board, and the nasty look she gave Griffin when she reminded Aguilera it
was just a bus, not a runway. Read on for a transcript.
January 1, 2004 - WENN reports
Christina Aguilera lived up to her diva reputation at her 23rd birthday
in Melbourne, Australia, held at the restaurant Stoke House with her entourage
and 40 pals. "She strutted upstairs in this horrendous blue hotpants suit
and fishnets with a scowl on her face," a staff member revealed. "She was
throwing attitude left, right and center in a 'don't you know who I am?'
sort of way. As soon as everyone had sat down, word came from the table
that the music was 'crap' and staff were told that Christina would like
to hear some hip-hop. Apparently she thought it was all a bit naff and
was looking forward to getting back to the States. She just seemed really
arrogant. I know she's really famous but there's no reason to put on such
a diva display."
January 1, 2004 - Ruth Ann
Daily of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette weighed in on Christina Aguilera after
the singer visited the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh,
donating $200,000. She writes, "Promoting hedonism in exchange for personal
gain implies a cynicism or thoughtlessness at odds with Aguilera's generous
heart. Her monetary gift will immediately change some women's and children's
lives for the better, but disavowing the degrading lyrics and images she
has lately been selling would be a gift with a reach far beyond Pittsburgh.
Perhaps in this new year, new wisdom will lead her to put her mouth where
her money is." Read more.
