gone crazy.' I'm doing that just to push the envelope as far as it will
go. I'm a pretty liberal parent, but if there are too many cuss words in
a row, I'll make sure Hailie hears the clean version. But if there's just
an expletive here and there, I would rather her hear it this way that at
school behind my back."

Talking about all the drama Eminem was involved with last year and how
it played into his writing of the album, Slim said, "'Sing for the Moment'
was the first song I wrote for the album; 'Cleanin Out My Closet' was the
second. I had the line in 'Cleanin Out My Closet' -- 'I'd like to welcome
y'all out to The Eminem Show' -- and it was just a line, but I sat back
and I was like, 'My life is really like a fucking show.' I have songs on
the album that I wrote when I was in that shit last year, with a possible
jail sentence hangin' over my head and all the emotions going through the
divorce. I went through a lot of shit last year that I resolved at the
same time, all in the same year. And, yeah, that's when half of the album
was wrote." Check out more on the interview, a preview of the new 'White
America' video, and a review of 'The Eminem Show' here.

No matter how big I get or whatever happens in this game, I’ve always got
my ear to the street. If somebody – big, small, it doesn’t matter - if

blood, I’m going to come back at you." Read more.
June 12, 2002 - Renee Graham
of the Boston Globe writes: "Eminem has finally gone too far. On his latest
CD, 'The Eminem Show,' the Detroit rapper manages something more offensive
than his misogynistic and homophobic rants, more noxious than the bile

asides about Christopher Reeve's paralysis, Gianni Versace's murder, or
Dick Cheney's balky heart... He sings." Read more.

the real Eminem? The lonely, paranoid, suicidal star who’s been emotionally
wounded by relationships gone awry? Or the bold, resilient artist who uses
his amazing talent as a life-support system? In his typical convoluted
way, Eminem gives no direct answers, contradicting, commenting, and criticizing
his own lyrics even as he delivers them. The truth lies somewhere in between;
searching for it has become a national pastime." Read more.

there was a feel that '70s rock had that was incredible. I thought, 'What
if I took that feel and that emotion and put it with [the new millennium]?'"

thoughts: "Hayley liked the album's first single, 'Without Me,' and said,
overall, the music was 'OK, if you didn't listen to the words,' by which

as if being a white rapper is the greatest thing of all time.'" Read more.

being compared to everyone from Elvis, Axl Rose, Bob Dylan, John Lennon,
and Madonna. Alan Light, former Spin editor said Lennon might be the best
comparison, "Eminem, who is obviously insanely self-absorbed, uses so much
of his personal drama as the driving force of this record. His family stuff
is lurid and fascinating, and after going through that madness, he generates
more madness in the record. Lennon also attempted to create his art out
of his life. Dylan never did that." Read more.

June 5, 2002 - Fox News continued
it's bashing of Eminem on Tuesday with syndicated columnist and Fox news

Hailie who is now 6-year-old. At the time he recorded that she was a toddler
we have remember when the music critics talk about him being a good dad
he got her to record her voice in the studio on that song by tricking her
and telling here she was going to Chucky Cheese. And I think any parent
who listens to a story like that has to realize this is not somebody who
is harmless in any way but a sick deranged individual. Not only exploited
his daughter in the past but on the recent album her voice is recorded
on another track where the song opens with him making cocaine snorting
sounds and spouting his profanity for the rest of the song."

a track-by-track opinion. Page writes, "Fans who were pleasantly satisfied
with Eminem's prior two albums will probably like this one, but folks hoping
for a more solid full-length effort from Mr. Mathers are sure to be disappointed.
It's no mystery that Eminem is far from the best producer or singer, yet
he has chosen to do both here. His polysyllabic rhyming is in full form
and there is plenty of venom, yet most of his humorous Slim Shady persona
is now gone." Read more.

have much support, nobody in my family, in her family. Just a few friends.
And just myself." As for why he still hangs out in his hometown area of
Sterling Heights, Michigan, Eminem explains, "I tried to stay close to
home. I bought the house in Sterling Heights when I didn't know I would
be as successful as I am now. It was like, 'I better grab this house, I
don't know if any more money is coming'. I bought the house, got it on
the main road, just figuring I might get a couple of fans every once in

saying it is "worth high rating." Hughley adds, "If you're one of the fans
who appreciated 2000's 'The Marshall Mathers LP' as challenging, multilayered
state-of-the-art pop, the new disc justifies the anticipation. On the other
hand, if you loved Eminem's earlier albums solely as transgressor thrill
rides, or were among those (on both left and right of the culture-war battlements)
who protested their expressions of misogyny, homophobia and callous violence,
'The Eminem Show' might -- just might -- prompt you to reconsider." Read
