November 29, 2002 - A second
Eminem home has been put up for sale on ebay. This is the rapper's Sterling
Heights home. The auction describes the property saying, "Own a piece of
Eminem's history. This is the house that Eminem bought after he became
famous. He spent a large sum of money to up date the Kitchen, all the Bathrooms,
the Jacuzzi Room and Basement. The house has an Indoor Jacuzzi and a Sauna
Room. In the back yard it has a Golf Green and an In Ground Pool. Located
on the Clinton River, it's a great home for entertaining. Enjoy the wild
life watching deer, fox and many birds on this beautifully landscaped 3
acre estate." The auction
price is currently at ebay's maximum bid of $99,999,999.00 -- obviously
a fake bid. No doubt the owners said they might as well try to sell their
home with the mania that exists. Check out the auction here.
Meanwhile, the top bid of Eminem's former family home has dropped to "only"
$12 million, likely after other fake bids were removed.
November 28, 2002 - Eminem's
granmother Betty Kresin spoke with Radio 1 about her new book on her family
life, including info on Eminem. "There's lots of things in that book that
you really don't know," she said. "We're having a little trouble with the
publisher because I'm not a book writer and it was wrote the way that I
know how to write, like 'I was born in August on a hot summer day' and
I think they're more interested in what happened to Marshall, but I have
people out there that always ask 'grandmother, what about you?' - they
want the whole life story." She added, "I'm not trying to get rich off
my grandson, it's more to get the true story out of my grandson."

last night and I swear to God, it's a real 'feel good' kind of a ride.
Almost like 'Rocky' for a new generation. Perhaps it's a little sentimental,
a little Hollywood or what have you, but I totally enjoyed it... especially
the rapping contests towards the end of the movie and I swear... Eminem's
acting is extremely impressive. He holds his own, no matter what they say
and ooooohhhhh yummy yummy I got love in my tummy, you even get to see
that boy's little white ass! Wheee HOOOoooo." Read more.

they had previously been a part of in 2000. "Sh** Eminem's a fu**ing icon
now. But he's pretty mellow to tour with," frontman Jacoby Shaddix tells
Australia's Beat magazine. "On the last tour he was busy working on the
soundtrack and score to his movie 'Eight Mile'. He was intent on getting
that done". So there weren't any rock shenanigans from him? "I think it's
just a matter if you've got time to party then you'll go out and party.
But it was a time for him that he had to handle business. He's a cool guy
though. I can tell you that he worked out everyday on the tour - he's trying
to get a little muscle on him." Read more.

out more about the bidder," Fraschetti said. "We have three bids over $10
million but we question their sincerity. We know there are sincere bids
out there in the six figures and some sincere bids in the seven figures
but I don't know about the eight-figure bids." Read more.

is supposedly Benzino's response to Eminem for his recently released response
to his own diss track. "Em is soft, always has, always will be. I never
had any security in my life, not one. We was in Puerto Rico and his punk
ass wouldn't even come to the hotel. So thats like a little kid or a little
spoiled brat that can't have his way. But at the end of the day, the bottom
line is that this kid is sucking out the streets. And remember, when Eminem
was birthed, he was birthed thru MTV, and hip hop, and with the way MTV
treated hip hop back then, it was like a pimp messing with a chick. So
they was prostituting hip hop, and then they had a baby with hip hop, and
here comes Eminem." Read more.

and it's really a tribute to dedication and America," 'Joey Pants' said.
"All of our heroes. Look at Eminem. I mean, I am so -- I don't know him.
I've been introduced yet, but I so identified as a 51-year-old male with
Eminem and the work that he did. And that the movie -- the fact that this
movie did $54 million this weekend, it's not about a bunch of kids watching
this. There's adults going to see this guy, and I think he's the James
Dean of the new millennium. I mean, I think he's got so much to say. He's
a genius. An to his music, and I can't wait to see his movie."

more movie roles and interest in his own scripts. As for rival DMX, he
was sounding pretty smug. "I think he's really pissed at me," he said.
"You know, I'm havin' a good time right now, man. I'm, you know, doin'
movies, you know, making records. I'm having a good time. I mean, you know,
I think it's a thing where he -- he's cold right now. You know what I mean?
And I'm hot. And he's seeking for ways to get hot. He's scrambled. You
know what I mean? He's like a wild pit bull right now. Like -- he doesn't

earlier this month for only $45,000 by Slim's uncle Todd Nelson. "Sure,

November 20, 2002 - Bill
O'Reilly of Fox News launched his new website and has also just put out
another attack article on hip hop, this time with Eminem in his sights.
"Any way you slice it, Marshall Mathers sells degenerate behavior to kids.
The entertainment industry, long devoid of any social conscience whatsoever,
provides Mathers with cover and calls him a creative genius and a sensitive
soul," he blasts. "Students of history will remember they called Caligula
that once as well. The problem I have is that the regular folks, people
with kids, have not risen up and scorned Eminem and his enablers. I mean
Ed Sullivan almost broke a blood vessel when Elvis swiveled his hips on
Sullivan’s Sunday night TV program. Now, Marshall Mathers can threaten
to kill his mother and we Americans just shrug. What has happened to us?"

a poor white boy trying to make it in a black man's world." Pitts said,
"perhaps the harshest thing they say about him isn't a curse word at all.
They call him Elvis. Black folks have always had this thing about Elvis.
On the one hand, we loved him ... the fact that Billboard magazine counts
him one of the most successful black music artists of the '50s seems ample
evidence of that. But in some ways we hated him, too. Every time they called
him the king of rock 'n' roll, it felt like a bone wedged sideways in the
throat." Read more.
November 19, 2002 - Brian
McCollum of TeenMusic.com says Eminem's new movie '8 Mile' shows the Detroit
hip-hop scene as better than it really was. McCollum says, "Finding good
Detroit hip-hop in the mid-1990s was often an exercise in patience. Many
young rappers were loathe to innovate, mimicking the commercial sounds
out of L.A. and New York. Local stations mostly ignored hometown artists.
Hip-hop showcases at clubs like the Shelter and the Palladium -- including
nights with Eminem -- usually played to sparse audiences." Read more.

Brown of the Cornell Sun reviewed Eminem's film '8 Mile', giving it 2 1/2

didn't play the lead? I think not, but that's not necessarily a negative
comment. Eminem's physical presence in the film, as strange as it may sound,
lent to it a certain degree of authenticity which would not have been there
had Rabbit been played by, say, Ryan Phillipe." Read more.

and I didn’t want to be a part of that. I didn’t want to be a part of something
that just because he’s a rapper and he sold X amount of millions of records
that he’s doing a movie. It’s going to be his movie, he’s going to have
to carry the movie so I had to be in something that’s going to be remembered

I went down there, met him, we read together, we talked and I just had
love for him. I felt his passion." Read more.

movie and take his time." Read more.

Murphy talked with MTV's Total Request Live on Monday to discuss the movie

November 12, 2002 - Howard
Stern still couldn't get over the fact that Eminem's movie '8 Mile' did
so well. He said they're calling him the new Elvis. Howard said Elvis stole
from the black man but Eminem is a black guy. Robin Quivers said that Eminem
is almost the only white guy in the movie, but she said Eminem was actually
a good actor and sounded surprised that she was saying that. She also said
that Eminem's real mother must be happy because she's being played by Kim
Bassinger in the movie.
November 12, 2002 - Jeannette
Walls of MSNBC reports the Gay and Lesbian Anti-Defamation League (GLAAD)

a GLAAD spokesman said. "We were always protesting the lyrics, not the
man."

York Daily News reports Eminem brought daughter Hailie, who turns 7 on

and so quick to turn on you... Suddenly, you're not cool no more. You're
like the Kris Kross jeans or something."
November 12, 2002 - Eminem's
maternal grandmother Betty Kresin has completed the book 'The Ties That
Bind', which talks about her own upbrining as well as Eminem's friendship
with his uncle Ronnie, Kresin's sone from a later marriage who died in
an apparent suicide in 1991 - an event that has played a major role in
Eminem's lyrics. Kresin's agent Barbara J. Zitwer commented, "She has a
story to tell on her own, but she also happens to be Eminem's grandmother,
so it sheds incredible light on his music. It's like 'Angela's Ashes',
the lives these people led."
November 11, 2002 - Soul
Train chatted with Angie Martinez who revealed she would like to work with
Eminem musically. "As far as other collaborations... Man, I don't know,
I've been lucky," Martinez said. "I've worked with everybody from Jay-Z
to Missy to Mary J. Blige, so I've been really lucky. I'm a huge Eminem
fan, if that ever happened that would be incredible." Read a transcript

November 11, 2002 - Rene
Rodriguez of the Miami Herald reviewed Eminem's debut film '8 Mile' giving
it 3 out of 4 stars. Rodriguez said, "'8 Mile' doesn't prove that Eminem
is a good actor, but it does show that he has a rare kind of charisma that
manages to be sullen and puppy-dog vulnerable at the same time. If the
singer acquits himself better than most other contemporary pop stars who
have taken a stab at movies, it's because all that the character of Rabbit
requires him to do is reprise the same persona that he's already had plenty
of practice perfecting: the glowering, misunderstood street poet." Read
more.
November 11, 2002 - Eminem
ruled the box office as expected this weekend as '8 Mile' pulled in $54.5
million in it's opening. The haul makes Mile one of the top R-rated debuts
(between Hannibal's $58 million and American Pie 2's $45.1 million) and
shatters the record for a film debut by a music star (Aaliyah in Romeo
Must Die; $18 million). "The big question was whether anyone other than
hip-hop fans would see this movie," says Gitesh Pandya, president of boxofficeguru.com.
"The answer surprised us all." Read more.
November 11, 2002 - John
Anderson of Newsday gave a positive review of '8 Mile', giving it 3 1/2
stars. Anderson writes, "We do know, almost begrudgingly given the content
of Eminem's oeuvre, that '8 Mile' is among the best studio films of the
year 2002 and, thanks to its racial content, should serve to maintain the
media fire under the ultimately toothless Eminem." Read more.
November 11, 2002 - The Los
Angeles Times spoke with several moviegoers who watched Eminem's '8 Mile',
which raked in $54.5 million over the weekend. They also spoke with TRL
host Carson Daly, who commented, "His audience is expanding. For people
who don't know him, people who say, 'What is this Eminem guy all about?,'
they'll go see this movie, and answering that question is what this movie
does best." Read more.
November 11, 2002 - The Orlando

1435 Randolph in Detroit, and more. Read more.
November 11, 2002 - The Detroit
Free Press reports one of the Detroit-area homes that Eminem lived in was
sold Thursday and likely will turn up on eBay. "This is a very emotional
thing for me, because this house has been in our family for 50 years,"
said Todd Nelson, whose sister, Debbie Nelson, is Eminem's mother. "I didn't
want to sell it, but I had to because my finances won't allow me to live
here any more." Read more.
November 11, 2002 - With
the success of Eminem, labels are desperately trying to re-create the success
a white rapper brings to the table, but have failed with names such as
Tow Down, Genovese and Hot Karl. The Los Angeles Times spoke with the rappers
and their respective current/former labels as to what went wrong -- or
why they didn't get much, if any, chance to succeed. "It seems like white
rappers have to do it off the first single," Hot Karl said. "The bar is
so high, and if you don't come up to the bar, you don't have a career....
I wasn't really given the chance." Read more.
November 10, 2002 - Get Real
Detroit spoke with '8 Mile' director Curtis Hanson and asked him when the
film became a Detroit movie. "The first script said Detroit, but it could
have been anywhere," Hanson said. "And the assumption was that it might
be anywhere, and when I came here to get to know Marshall, I got to know
the city better. I knew it a little bit already, but I spent time really
getting to know it and getting to know the truth of where he came from.
What I concluded was that the story had to take place in the past. Originally
it was in the present, but the truth of this story really was in the past.
It’s not many years in the past, but in terms of pop culture and hip-hop,
six years is a long time." Read the rest of the interview here.
November 10, 2002 - James
Hill of BET.com reviewed Eminem's new film '8 Mile' giving the Eminem starring
movie generally positive reviews. Hill said, "Ironically, this slowly building
film is built around the fact that when it comes to rap, race matters.
Rap is not simply a matter of talent. If so, Talib Kweli would be all over
the radio, not Ja Rule. Image is 50% of the game. Em's image, like Rabbit's,
is validated due to his Black posse and blue-collar beginnings. Like Arthur
Ashe or Jackie Robinson, Em's acceptance is an exception to the rule. He
succeeds despite being White, not because no one notices it." Read more.
November 10, 2002 - Eminem's
new film '8 Mile' grossed $20.9 million on Friday as it opens strong for

Costello of CNN Saturday Morning News spoke with the network's film correspondent
Paul Clinton earlier today to talk about Eminem's new movie '8 Mile'. Clinton
saw the film and said, "It's pretty good. I mean I am not a rap fan, by

-- whatever it is, he's got it. He gets on there, he grabs the screen."

November 9, 2002 - The Detroit
News caught up with Lisa Lisa, a disc jockey for WDRQ-FM, who is credited
with providing Eminem his first break. "He was probably one of my top five
rappers," Lisa Lisa recalled. "But his style was nothing like it is now.
He was kind of comical. He would always have a lyric or two that would
make all of us bust out laughing." She added, "He was like a perfectionist.
He would work with the producer mixing the track right up to the last minute
before he would have to go on." Read more.
November 9, 2002 - The Detroit

biggest ever, forcing them to close the shades on the fans outside. For
a transcript to the chat, read here.
November 9, 2002 - Ed Gonzalez
of slant magazine reviewed the new Eminem film '8 Mile' giving it only
2 out of 4 stars. Gonzalez said, "Remarkably, if not entirely accidental,
Silver challenges the ownership of rap. Rabbit's (read: Eminem's) success
suggests that while rap has its origins in black history, it's okay for
a white man to rhyme if he's lived below the poverty line alongside the
black man. [Screenwriter Scott] Silver, though, dubiously undermines the
importance of race in Rabbit's struggle for acceptance." Read more.
November 9, 2002 - Joel Siegel
of ABCNews.com reviewed Eminem's new movie '8 Mile' and admitted, "I was
not expecting a film this fine." Siegel added, "It's impossible to tell
whether Eminem can be a great actor. Two reasons: The part he plays is
too close to his real life. And all the performances are terrific, including
Brittany Murphy as his girlfriend and Kim Basinger, as his trailer-trash
mom." Siegel gave the film an A-. Read more.
November 9, 2002 - Brandy
Parrish of CountingDown.com reviewed '8 Mile' giving the Eminem starring
film a B+. Parrish said, "It's not that '8 Mile' plays to the lowest common
denominator, but there aren't any surprises here either. There are moments
where I was looking for something more than what's happening on the surface,
the subtleties that I've become used to in Hanson movies aren't a priority,
but maybe it requires a second viewing. Is this movie as tough and raw
as you might expect, not really, but if it were it would not offer anything
to a broad audience and this movie does." Read more.
November 9, 2002 - USA Today
reports it will take more than familiar backdrops and faces to impress
the residents of 8 Mile, who disagree on both the merits of the film and
its star Eminem, even though no one has seen the movie yet. "I'm going
to see ('8 Mile') the first day it comes out," says Lamar Swanson, 44,
who has lived in Detroit since 1968, when the riots set the city afire.
"But not because of that silly white guy; I don't even like that music.
I just want to see if someone can make a movie about how life here really
is. It hasn't happened yet." Read more.
November 9, 2002 - While
everybody expects '8 Mile' to open on top at the box office this weekend,
Brad Peppard, president of Los Angeles-based CinemaScore which produces
research measuring potential audience size for Hollywood's studios, said
his company had looked at '8 Mile,' but the lack of a good comparison for
a hip hop artist of Eminem's current stature crossing over into movies
made predicting the box office next to impossible. "We just couldn't find
any data we thought was reliable," he told Reuters. Read more.

of Variety gave Eminem a tough time for all the security he brought along
at the premiere of '8 Mile' earlier this week. Higgins said, "The rapper

his film character's nickname: 'Rabbit.' To watch the trenchcoat-wearing,
NFL linemen-size bodyguards waddling after him was visual comedy at its
best." Read more.
November 9, 2002 - Eva Simpson

Ayres of the Times of London reports that Eminem is being hailed as the
next Elvis Presley thanks to his role in the film '8 Mile'. He cites the

cultural product, in this case hip-hop, and sold it to a white audience,
making hundreds of millions of dollars in the process." Read more.

of E! Online reports Christina Aguilera was spotted at Virgin Megastore
in New York's Union Square with her arms crossed, huffing and puffing after
a pair of guys checking out new releases noticed Eminem's 8 Mile offering
stuck behind a disc by some obscure Swedish band, which they subsequently

As Christina-love's own 'Dirrty' is quite kick-ass-crack enough, I'm positive
she wouldn't bother with such nonsense."
November 8, 2002 - Christina
Aguilera made a surprise appearance at the '8 Mile' premiere in Los Angeles.
"I hear great things [about Eminem's acting ability], I really do," Aguilera

gave a glowing review of Eminem's new film '8 Mile', giving the flick an
A-. "By the end of '8 Mile,' our desire to see Rabbit let out his rage
is palpable, and the big rap contest is one of the most purely exciting
scenes the movies have given us in years," Gleiberman raved. "All of the
performers are terrific, but the triumph of Rabbit's rap lies in how far
he'll go -- to dis somebody, to dis himself, to twist and syncopate and
loop-the-loop his rhymes into an unholy ricochet of iambic fury. More than
just a rap, he's laying down a Song of Himself. It's the sound of a life
of fear and fever that has suddenly found its voice." Read more.

he talked about meeting Slim for the first time. "He wasn't a star at that
time, but I felt he had enormous charisma and that he could be explosive
as a film star. I didn't care that he'd never acted. His music videos spoke
for themselves," says Grazer. "I got him in my office and he just wouldn't

hurts to see their problems being used to make megabucks for Eminem and
his Hollywood moguls. The movie will only exploit their problems for worldwide

article in the New York Times that Bill O'Reilly was complaining about
on his Monday show is online. In the piece, Slim expands further on his
brush with the law and his drug use when he first exploded onto the scene.
''Fame hit me like a [expletive] ton of bricks,'' he said. ''I was just
being pulled in every direction, doing everything under the sun, two shows
a day, touring constantly, nonstop radio interviews, and I just got caught
up in the drinking and the drugs and fighting and just wilding out and
doing dumb things I shouldn't have been doing. But I came out of them and
I conquered it. Something really bad could have happened to me. I could
be in jail. I could have been shot. I could have been killed. And I'm proud
of myself now for not only my accomplishments but for pulling through all
that -- my criminal cases, my divorce. If I was still on drugs and still
living the life that I lived three years ago, I would be a [expletive]
failure.'' Read more.

November 2, 2002 - Newsweek
profiled Eminem's '8 Mile' co-star Brittany Murphy who was mum on whether
the two enjoyed any off-screen romance. The actress kept inquisitors at
bay by dropping an Eminem lyric: "I am whatever you say I am." She still
demurs. "I want to respect the one ounce of privacy he has left and the
one ounce that I’m losing," she says. "I’m just grateful to have had him,
in any way, shape or form, in my life." Read more, including an audio clip
of Brittany on when she first met Eminem here.
November 2, 2002 - Ahead
of the release of his debut film '8 Mile', Eminem is the cover story on
this week's Entertainment Weekly. Asked whether he was worried about acting,
Slim admits, "At first I thought it was going to be easy. I actually said
that! [Curtis and I] had a conversation in my driveway and I said, 0'I
don't think there's anything to this acting thing. Once I can focus on
something and just give it 100 percent, I won't let you down.' And he laughed
and was like, 'Marshall, I'm gonna tell you like this, it's not as easy
as it looks.' When I started going through rehearsals I started realizing,
fu**!" Check out the entire feature here.

November 1, 2002 - Access
Hollywood landed the interview with Eminem, the only television interview
he did for '8 Mile'. Asked how close the movie was to his real life, Em
said, "It's symbolic. It's just symbolic. I mean, basically, you know,
like obviously everything that happened in the movie didn't happen in my
real life. I've lived in trailers, but I didn't grow up in a trailer. So,
there's different things, but the basis of it is the same idea -- a lower-class,
poor kid coming up wanting to do music, getting tugged every different
which way by his friends and not knowing which way to go." Watch a video
clip and read a transcript here.
November 1, 2002 - Andrew
Johnston of the New York Post gave his thoughts on Eminem's debut acting
role in '8 Mile'. Johnston said, "Any talk of Oscar buzz may be premature.
Even though Eminem has displayed a fondness for role-playing in his provocative
albums and videos, the film doesn't demand much of a stretch." He added,
"The real question isn't whether Eminem can make it in the movies, but
whether his die-hard fans will brand him a sellout for starring in a film
that makes him look like a nice guy." Read more.
November 1, 2002 - The Sun
reports Eminem was a demanding diva on the set of his debut film '8 Mile'.
"He would say 'Fu** this, I'm outta here' every day and threaten to walk
off," blabbed an insider. "He insisted on having three personal trailers
and never showed up on time. He was always smoking pot. Curtis Hanson,
the film's director, finally laid down the law. He told Eminem: ‘You get
yourself together or I'm walking.' It was fine after that."
