August 29, 2003 - During
Chris Rock's opening monologue of the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday,
he joked, "You got a lot of rappers separating, you can have 50 Cent going
nowhere near Ja Rule. Nobody got no beef with Eminem. Ain nobody saying
nothing. I'm not even going to say nothing bad about Eminem, because way
too much stuff rhymes with Rock, all right. Eminem don't even like his
own mama, so lord knows what he'll say about your black ass, okay. And
Eminem is a white rapper, so his record is going to be on every station,
the country station, the talk station. The black rappers just on Hot 97."
August 29, 2003 - Eminem
picked up Best Video in a Film for 'Lose Yourself' at last night's Video
Music Awards. He told the crowd upon receiving the award: "What's up, man?
( Cheers and applause) okay. 50, tell me if I win an award he wants to
come out here and hold this for me so he gets used to how heavy they are
because he's probably going to get a lot of them. I brought this out here,
I want to make sure I don't forget nobody. Cutter Sampson, Jimmy, Paul
Rosenberg, Philip Atwell, the city of Detroit for inspiring me, and Hailie
if you're watching I love you. All my fans, everybody, thank you. Once
again, thank you."
August 28, 2003 - The New
York Post reports news outlets learned yesterday that Eminem, 50 Cent and
Obie Trice will be performing together at tonight's MTV Video Music Awards
when photographers were asked to sign a two-page "photo session agreement"
limiting their shots to "one time usage" only of the trio. "It's very unusual,"
an insider said, explaining that it's a scary precedent for photo editors,
who fear that every artist will soon have his/her own contract that photographers
will be forced to sign.
August 23, 2003 - Mariah
Carey tells Extra from backstage at her U.S. tour that she knows Eminem,
but the two never had any sexual encounter. Mariah says, "There's always
going to be rumors about celebrities, no matter who they are. Some of them
are real; some of them are going to be fake. I can't live my life worrying
about that because I've been in the public eye too long and I'm used to
that." Watch a video clip, which includes Mariah talking about being on
the cover of Maxim magazine, and plans for her new album, 'Mariah Carey
the Re-Mixes', here.
August 23, 2003 - According
to MTV.com, Eminem's 'Girls Gone Wild Shadystyle' video, which was shot
last year during his Anger Management tour, may never be released. The
video's production company released a statement saying that it "wasn't
happy with Eminem's participation and is not happy with the finished product."
Eminem's reps confirmed that the video, which documents Eminem's female
fans taking their tops off backstage, will not be released. Read more.
August 21, 2003 - In her
interview with Maxim magazine, Mariah Carey has again denied having a sexual
relationship with Eminem. "Yeah, it happened. Did I have a sexual relationship
with him? No, I didn't," Carey said. "I knew him, I hung out with him a
few times, but nothing sexual occurred. I'd admit it if it did, but it
didn't. And that's why I was so upset about the whole thing, because I
was like, 'Look, if I had an intimate relationship with the person that
would be one thing, but...maybe he thought because nothing happened he'd
look bad or something'." Read more.
August 21, 2003 - Eminem
often got a thrill when bisexual ex-wife Kim brought girls home after boozy
nights out, his uncle Todd Nelson says in a Sky One documentary. "Kim has
a sexual hold on him because of her bisexuality," Nelson said. "She brings
women home and puts them in bed with her, and when Marshall comes in he
doesn’t come home to just Kim — he comes home to whatever’s in bed. Why
would you not want a wife that has other women waiting for you? It’s every
man’s dream, right?" Read more.
August 19, 2003 - The Las
Vegas Sun reports that a federal lawsuit filed against Eminem by three
Vegas businessmen continues to move forward. The suit alleges Mathers has
sold items marked with the words, "Shady Limited." William S. Wallace,
Kevin Thomas and Nathan Moon contend that they own the rights to that trademark.

August 18, 2003 - Blender
magazine spoke with Obie Trice in their Next Big Thing feature, where he
talked about being Eminem's new prodigy. "I owe it all to Marshall," he
said. "That man saved my life." Trice spoke of the time he was nearly killed
selling crack. "This one guy, high on crack, held a gun to my head, creaming
that he was going to shoot me. As soon as he turned his back, I jumped
out the window, glass everywhere, fell into the backyard and ran up the
street, just waiting for the bullet to crack my skull." But prison and
becoming a father convinced him to go straight.

Lynn for a full-on sex pictorial in the new issue of Hustler magazine.
Lynn had talked about sex fantasies with the rapper after starring with

August 14, 2003 - The New
York Daily News caught up with Funkmaster Flex ahead of the debut of his
new Spike TV series 'Ride With Funkmaster Flex', premiering Saturday at
7:30 PM ET/PT. The first episode features Eminem. "There are good car shows
on TV," said Flex. "But I felt like there was nothing for kids 18 to 34.
Take muscle cars. People think of them as for adults, but they didn't start
out that way. They were something kids could own and mess around with.
You could buy one for $2,000, put $500 into it and you had some serious
power." Read more.
August 13, 2003 - Teen Scene
magazine caught up with actress Brittany Murphy and asked the '8 Mile'
star about Eminem, who she was romantically linked to briefly during filming.
"To me, he was Marshall. He’s a family man, an extraordinary worker and
gives everything to his daughter," Murphy gushed. "He’s one of the hardest
working, determined, brilliant people that I have ever met in my life and
I think that it’s great that the world is getting to know different sides
of him. He’s constantly been judged for what he says, tongue in cheek,
and finally people are realizing a lot more about him which is great."

August 13, 2003 - The Sun
reports that Eminem hasn't taken a vacation since he's made it big, worried
that he'd develop writer's block. "I wanna take a break but then I get
fu**ing angsty," he said. "I get frustrated that I'll get writer's block.
That's my worst fear, that I'll wake up tomorrow and won't be able to write."
August 13, 2003 - 50 Cent
won four awards Friday night at the Billboard R&B-Hip-Hop Awards, including
top artist, while his mentor Eminem took home three honors, including top
album. Check out the entire list of winners here.
August 11, 2003 - Mikael
Wood of the Dallas Observer spoke with 'Weird Al' Yankovic about Eminem's
refusal to let you do a video for 'Couch Potato' and whether he worried
that stars are getting too silly and self-reflexive on their own. Yankovic
responded, "That's the reason it took me so long to get around to doing
Eminem, because he was certainly big enough to lampoon a year ago, but
you can't really make fun of a song like 'Without Me' or 'The Real Slim
Shady,' because there's a certain amount of self-awareness there, and they're
already tongue-in-cheek swipes at pop culture to begin with; it would've
been sort of redundant to do a parody of that. Whereas 'Lose Yourself'
was a very serious kind of anthem, and those are always the best to make
fun of--it's always better to get a very serious song and to inject a little
humor into it." Read more.
August 11, 2003 - Soundhog

August 11, 2003 - Launch.com

Circuit Court on August 18th when his attorney will ask a judge to dismiss
a $1 million defamation lawsuit filed against him by former schoolmate
DeAngelo Bailey. Read more.
August 11, 2003 - USA Today
reports Showtime and Interscope Records have teamed to produce a six-part
series designed to discover the hottest new prospect in hip-hop. 'Interscope
Presents The Next', which is expected to begin airing in October, is part
talent contest and part documentary, with each episode culminating in one-on-one
rap battles. Though clearly part of the reality-show stampede, The Next
is less inspired by 'American Idol' than by the Eminem starring '8 Mile'.
"This can be more of an R-rated show," says executive producer Paul Rosenberg,
Eminem's manager and vice president of Shady Records. "On a PG-style show,
these guys would be disqualified for cussing. A new artist isn't used to
censoring himself. When you're thinking off the top of your head, some
naughty words might slip out." Read more.
August 7, 2003 - The Detroit
News reports that Eminem will appear before a Michigan judge later this
month. He's expected to ask for the dismissal of a lawsuit against him
filed by a former school-mate, DeAngelo Bailey who is seeking $1 million
over the song. Eminem's dismissal request contends that the song is accurate,
and that Bailey threatened and intimidated him in grade school. "I was
harassed daily by this fat kid named DeAngelo Bailey," Eminem says in the
song. "An eighth-grader who acted obnoxious everyday he'd shove me into
lockers."
August 4, 2003 - Mariah Carey
again commented on Eminem in the September issue of Maxim. She admits,
"I knew him, I hung out with him a few times, but nothing sexual occurred.
