July 31, 2003 - The National Enquirer reports that Ben Affleck was overheard telling pals at Los Angeles hotspot Orso that fiance Jennifer Lopez "takes forever to get ready, and when she finally comes out and asks me how she looks, if I dont' answer in, like, 10 seconds, she's back rearranging her whole look!" Because of that, Ben has learned to answer J.Lo quickly.

July 31, 2003 - Satirical site The Onion reports that focus groups at advance screenings for Gigli, a romantic comedy starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez set to open nationwide July 30, have demanded a new ending in which both stars die "in as brutal a manner as possible," sources at Sony Pictures said Tuesday. July 31, 2003 - The New York Daily News reports Ben Affleck's reps are furiously denying a report in the National Enquirer that the actor stepped out on fiance Jennifer Lopez with strippers in Canada. The tabloid alleges that Affleck carried on with strippers that night - both in the club and later at actor Christian Slater's rented Vancouver home and handed cash to some of them, saying, "Keep this quiet. Keep this between just us." Affleck's lawyer, Martin Singer, told the Daily News, "Our position is the story is absolutely false. Ben is going to evaluate all his legal options." July 31, 2003 - The New York Post reports that the buzz on Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's first movie is so bad that Revolution Studios had trouble filling the Los Angeles premiere, giving seats usually reserved for stars to the fans waiting outside. "It's definitely not a fastball down the middle," Revolution partner Tom Sherak admitted to The Post. "It's a curve ball." So how to get people to see it? July 31, 2003 - WENN reports Jennifer Lopez spoke out on the negative publicity surrounding her new film 'Gigli' with fiance Ben Affleck at the film's Hollywood premiere. "I believe that this is a good movie," Lopez said. "I know we did great work on it. I'm proud of Ben in the movie, I'm proud of the stuff I did, I think there is some great writing and really funny stuff. I just hope that everybody comes out to enjoy it because it's a lot of fun to watch." Her fiance added, "The movie will always have a certain kind of significance for me, regardless of the usual concerns you have about a movie - if it performs commercially or critically or what-have-you. July 31, 2003 - Christy Lemire of The Associated Press reviewed the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck starring 'Gigli', claiming the film out Friday is "every bit as unwatchable as the deafening negative chatter would suggest." Lemire adds, "If this were a movie starring two B-list actors, or two complete unknowns, it probably would have gone straight to video. After curious masochists and J.Lo fans check it out the first weekend, 'Gigli' probably will have a drop-off in audience that rivals 'The Hulk' 70 percent then go to video. July 31, 2003 - Roger Friedman of FoxNews.com reviewed Jennifer Lopez and fiance Ben Affleck's new movie 'Gigli', and confirmed the early buzz that it is a bomb. Friedman said, "The film — if you can call it that — is a total, mindless disaster. Sitting in a screening last night with reviewers and feature writers, I could only think of one word: stupefying. July 31, 2003 - Forbes writer Peter Kafka spoke with Extra about how Jennifer Lopez and fiance Ben Affleck both made the Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Celebrities list. He says, "Jennifer is number five on the list this year. Ben is a mere two spots behind her at number seven." While Lopez raked in a smaller income then her husband-to-be, a mere $29 million last year, Forbes gave Lopez props for multi-tasking. July 31, 2003 - The New York Daily News reports Jennifer Lopez's sister Lynda phoned her on her Blink 102.7 radio show to quiz her about the story that the Enquirer caught her fiance Ben Affleck spending a night out at a strip club in Canada. "He, w-he ... it sounds like Ben," J.Lo said. "He, uh, does tip a lot ... I don't know about this. I'll have to ask him." "It will be on October 5th in Kauai," he told a Swiss Magazine. "It's in South America," he told another Euro junketeer. "I heard seven different versions of where and when the wedding is going to be come out of Ben's mouth," Affleck's rep, Ken Sunshine, laughed. "Kauai at least has the warmest climate."

Film insiders are now wondering if J.Lo caught wind of the buzz about the great chemistry between Uma Thurman and her fiance. "I’m not saying anything is going on, but there were also rumors about Ben and Jennifer Garner, [his co-star] in 'Daredevil,' and let’s not forget how Ben and Jen met," a source revealed. July 16, 2003 - The New York Daily News reports Jennifer Lopez literally raided the cookie jar last spring after she completed a photo shoot for the new Louis Vuitton campaign in Paris. Designer Marc Jacobs invited J.Lo to take home some of the clothing and luxury goods she'd modeled, and a source revealed, "She took just about everything. Shoes, dresses, bags. An assistant went down the row of tables and loaded up a duffle bag. About 10 minutes later everyone was standing around in shock, when they got a call from Jennifer's people. They said she'd forgotten a pair of socks! It was like when you tell a kid, 'Have a few pieces of candy,'" says another source involved with the shoot. July 14, 2003 - Jennifer Lopez is trying to put to rest old gossip about what happened on the set of 'Gigli' with co-star Ben Affleck, during which time she was still married to Cris Judd. "We just became friends," J. Lo tells Reader's Digest in its August issue. "I'm a very faithful person. If somebody had told me, 'Ben's attracted to you,' I would have said, 'No. I wasn't raised that way.'" Lopez admitted that she and Judd "were having problems" at the time, "but that's one thing Ben and I never talked about. "She touched my hand. I love her. She looked so perfect even up close. I'm never going to wash my hand again. July 11, 2003 - The Sun reports that Jennifer Lopez's sacked manager Benny Medina has lashed out at her fiance Ben Affleck, blaming him for causing his longtime professional relationship with J.Lo to crumble. "All aspects of her world started to change when she got involved with Ben Affleck," Medina moaned. "The relationship with Ben is completely different to her others. With Puffy there were no problems. With Cris Judd, we all got along and respected each other. I’m sad, hurt and angry. I have seen her behavior with other people and I should have assumed it would some day happen to me."

July 11, 2003 - Access Hollywood was first on the set of 'Gigli' to visit Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck to see their chemistry on screen, and hear their glowing praise of each other. "The world doesn't really know the depth of what he's capable of yet and that's exciting to me," said Jen about fiance Ben. "I saw things on this movie that were so impressive and I was so impressed with it I was like 'Wow, you know this guy is really amazing.'" July 11, 2003 - The New York Post reports that while Jennifer Lopez is blaming her former manager Benny Medina for costing her the cover of Vogue, in fact it was Vogue editrix Anna Wintour who decided J.Lo was too low-class. "Jennifer was styled by all of their top stylists. They brought the clothes, did her hair, everything," said an insider. "She was supposed to be 'The Millennium Girl' and it was going to be huge. But then nothing happened. Benny called Anna's office and she didn't call him back, because she had decided Jennifer 'wasn't Vogue material.' " Vogue rep Patrick O'Connell says the scrapped '99 cover did happen, but things have changed since then. "From the beginning, we always said it was a cover try and that it might not work out," he said. "As it happened, the sitting didn't come together and we weren't able to run the pictures. It was no fault of anyone's, the pictures just didn't work." Meanwhile, it appears Medina and J.Lo are "on the verge of a settlement" in their bitter legal fued after his firing. Read more.

July 4, 2003 - The New York Daily News reports that the relationship between Jennifer Lopez and former manager Benny Medina continues to deteriorate as yesterday Medina was served with legal papers while he watched 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.' Medina said, "I took the afternoon to watch 'T3' not knowing I was going to be terminated." The lawsuit accuses him of siphoning $100,000 from Lopez's earnings for his personal use and seeks payback - with 10% interest. "A $100,000 amount would be a drop in the bucket to the amount of money she grossed," said Medina, who called the accusations "untrue and offensive." Read more.

July 4, 2003 - Andres Segura talked with Extra about his tough job working with Jennifer Lopez on these new Louis Vuitton ads. He says she made the five-day shoot easy, once he got over the first day jitters. Andres says, "It's like you have in front of you a girl you always admired as an artist and suddenly you are next to her and looking at her and listening to her." July 4, 2003 - According to the New York Post, things have gotten ugly after Jennifer Lopez fired longtime manager Benny Medina, and of course the issue is money. "Benny always did Jennifer's contracts and, as every manager does, got a percentage of the profits," said an insider. Medina is said to be reaping up to 20 percent of Lopez's take, including her film fees and revenue from her Glow fragrance and J.Lo clothing line. "Jennifer is furious," the source said. "She has been calling Benny every day, saying she won't pay him one more dime. But everything is legal and above board. Benny told her if she stopped paying him he will sue her." Read more.

July 1, 2003 - WENN reports Jennifer Lopez missed out on watching 'Matrix Reloaded' in a Georgia cinema after popcorn cracked her teeth. J.Lo was left sobbing in pain in the cinema while her fiance Ben Affleck tried to comfort her. "It had been a dull pain for a while, but right then it just kind of kicked into high gear," she remarked. "I think I bit down wrong on a piece of popcorn. It was like a knife in my brain. I just started crying right there in the movie theatre. I pulled my hat way down and Ben was like, 'What's wrong?' I'm like, 'I can't take it. It hurts too much.' So I had a root canal. Tell people you had a root canal and everybody feels sorry for you."
