as the-dog-ate-my-homework," the insider said. "ET spent a lot of money
to send everyone up to Vancouver — and they were pretty irked at the time.
Now that this has come out, they are going ballistic." Read more.
August 5, 2003 - Roger Friedman
of FoxNews.com weighed in on the disappointing showing by the Jennifer
Lopez and Ben Affleck starring 'Gigli', which brought in only $3.8 million
at 2,215 theaters, finishing 7th for the weekend. He says, "So we’ll say
good-bye to 'Gigli,' which will no doubt get cut to 500 theaters this Friday
and then get put out of its misery entirely. Columbia Pictures/Sony Entertainment
will move on to 'S.W.A.T.,' which isn’t exactly 'The Italian Job,' but
at least should be good mindless entertainment." Read more.

Los Angeles on Thursday night" after the disasterous reviews for 'Gigli'

rang up a $9,000 bar tab" in the VIP room," a source said. "Jennifer kept
talking about the 'drama, drama, drama,' and told several people she was

opinion about 'Gigli' and if it effects on Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's
next movie 'Jersey Girl'. He writes: "As far as all this worrying about
what this weekend's 'Gigli' reception means for 'Jersey Girl'... well,
don't waste your energy. We're gonna be fine (more than fine, I think).
Apples and oranges. Sh**, apples and blowjobs, really. No further prognostication
necessary... And while I'm sorry that 'Gigli' didn't do better this weekend,
it's critical reaction and [box office] take won't have the slightest effect
on 'Jersey Girl'. Take my word for it." Read more."

writes "Joe Baltake from sacticket.com reviewed the Jennifer Lopez and
fiance Ben Affleck starring movie 'Gigli', giving it 2 1/2 stars. He writes:
"Martin Brest's 'Gigli' is the kind of interesting, messed-up little movie
doomed to be misunderstood and underrated. It's a film that boldly strives
for some originality among all the formulaic pap that monopolizes our theaters
and that's ultimately penalized for not quite making it... The main reason
to see 'Gigli' is Lopez, who gives a confident performance and who never
looked better. She's every inch a movie star here. She makes you wish that
'Gigli' was a better movie". Read more."
August 3, 2003 - Richard
Roeper of 'Ebert and Roeper' was interviewed on CNN earlier today by Kyra
Phillips, as the AOL/Time Warner owned network continued an all-day barrage
of film critics on to blast the rival Sony Pictures film 'Gigli', starring
Ben Affleck and fiance Jennifer Lopez. Responding to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution
review calling the film a "pile of manure", Roeper responded, "Well, Kyra,
first of all, calling it a pile of manurer is an insult to manurer everywhere.
I don't know why anybody would say such a thing about manurer, that's such
an insult. The worst movie of the century, I guess it depends on what century
we're talking about. This is an unbelievably, amazingly, awful film. from
the very first frame to the very end. Jennifer and Ben pay playing the
two least believable hitmen in movie history. She's a lesbian, he's a meathead.
And they capture a guy who's doing a bad imitation of 'Rainman'. And they
ride around in a convertible with him because that's a good way to keep
hostage out of the public eye, right? And there's a moment where Jennifer
Lopez's lesbian lover shows up and slits her wrist, and I actually envied
that woman at that point." Read more.
August 3, 2003 - Ed Gonzalez
of slant magazine reviewed the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck starring
'Gigli', giving the film only 1 out of 4 stars. Gonzalez writes, "'Gigli'
wishes to have a little something for everyone. Though Ben Affleck and
Jennifer Lopez fell in love on the set of the film, it’s difficult not
to look at this shrill mess as a vanity project tailor-made for the couple
and targeted at anyone who gets their daily celebrity dish from the E!
network." Read more.
August 3, 2003 - Daryn Kagan
of CNN spoke with Mr. Moviefone, Russ Leatherman, on the new Jennifer Lopez
and Ben Affleck starring 'Gigli', and like most every other critic, he
hammered the film out today. "I have to tell you, Daryn, I didn't think
I'd see a movie this summer that would make 'From Justin to Kelly' look
like a classic, but this is one of them," he said. "It's amazing because
you have two huge stars, you have a good director, you have a bug budget,
and to come out with a movie that's just so absolutely flat with no charisma,
it's really sort of amazing." He added, "The most amazing thing is that
people are really jumping on this thing, right, like every critic across
the country is taking the opportunity to just hammer this movie as hard
as they can, maybe because Ben and Jen did so much publicizing of themselves,
of the movie, of everything else." Read more.
August 3, 2003 - Some wonder
if the private lives of Jennifer Lopez and fiance Ben Affleck will overshadow
their professional work together on 'Gigli' and the upcoming 'Jersey Girl'.
"I do worry about it," Lopez admitted to CNN. "Like now that the movie
is coming out and there's been so much press on us, you know, I feel like
ah, I wish that people could go in without the extra baggage." Affleck
added, "I think it's a double-edged sword. I think it can also help. I
think it can -- it certainly generates attention and in a crowded marketplace,
that's valuable." Check out a transcript here.
August 3, 2003 - The Enquirer
reports Jennifer Lopez is furious at Ben Affleck after her fiance convinced
her that she should fire longtime manager Benny Medina. "When Ben said
it was time to dump Medina -- the guy responsible for launching her --
Jennifer trusted him," an insider said. "Ben thought that by getting new
management Jennifer's career would reach a new level. But his plan backfired
-- and now Jennifer's furious at Ben." It's backfired because the pal says
the move "has only cemented her self-absorbed, ruthless image." The pal
added, "Even though she loves Ben, Jennifer's worked way too hard for any
man to damage the empire she's created."

writes "Here's another review for the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck starring
movie 'Gigli' from Calgary Sun by Louis B. Hobson. He says, "'Gigli' is
not one of the worst films of 2003 - let alone one of the worst of all
time - and not a significant blight on either Ben Affleck or Jennifer Lopez's
reputations. Affleck is better here than he was in 'Reindeer Games', 'Phantoms'
and 'Bounce', and Lopez shows far more range and depth than she did in
'Anaconda', 'The Wedding Planner', 'Angel Eyes' and 'Enough'." Read more."

Lopez and Ben Affleck starring movie 'Gigli', giving it 2 1/2 stars. He
writes, "Lopez and Affleck are sweet and appealing in their performances;
the buzz said they didn't have chemistry, but the buzz was wrong... Affleck
and Lopez create lovely characters, even if they're not the ones they're
allegedly playing, and the supporting performances and a lot of the dialogue
is wonderful. It's just that there's too much time between the good scenes."

August 3, 2003 - Cris Judd
tells In Touch magazine that he is still in love with Jennifer Lopez even
though she ended their short marriage last year to be with her 'Gigli'
co-star Ben Affleck. "We talk every so often," he said. "I still really
care about her and know she does for me. I tell her if she ever needs me,
I'm here for her. I don't know if Ben Affleck knows about it, but we still
get along fine. I love her for who she is, not what she is. There aren't
many people around her who can say that. We're soulmates."
August 3, 2003 - Ty Burr
of the Boston Globe reviewed the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck starring
'Gigli', giving it zero stars. Burr said, "I'm sorry to have to disappoint
you. Not that 'Gigli' isn't a failure on almost every level -- it is. But
the Martin Brest film is merely an overlong, joyless, and inconsequential
affair, full of dead air, and possessing only a few moments of jaw-dropping
bad taste. It's a dull disaster." Read more.

hoot, but a hoot... So, ignore the 99% of rude, insensitive critics who

August 1, 2003 - Roger Friedman
of FoxNews.com expanded his comments on the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
starring 'Gigli'. He said, "The biggest problem with 'Gigli' is how anyone
who read that script would want to make the movie. The basic premise, a
lesbian hitwoman and a Tony Soprano hitman being thrown together, is not
bad. But the minute the guy has to 'convert' the woman, we're in trouble.
Someone saw this as an Affleck vehicle because of 'Chasing Amy.' But that
movie was a quirky, independent film with no expectations. It was spontaneous,
unfettered, and unencumbered. 'Gigli' is just the opposite, a massive tick
of self-consciousness." Read more.
August 1, 2003 - A source
who knows Jennifer Lopez and fiance Ben Affleck tells Jeannette Walls of
MSNBC.com that the couple's relationship is in trouble after the bombshell
allegations in the new issue of the National Enquirer. "It's not really
the strip club that’s the problem," the insider said. "It’s all the sordid
details about taking the girls back to (Christian Slater’s) house and what
they did with them there. This relationship had issues before this article
came out, and I think those details are going to make Jennifer snap. They
may be making some public appearances together to promote their movie ‘Gigli’
but it’s going to be tough." Affleck's lawyer maintained that the Enquirer
story is "complete garbage." Read more.
August 1, 2003 - Jami Bernard
of the New York Daily News reviewed the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
starring movie 'Gigli', which hits theaters Friday. Bernard says the film
"is a disaster." Giving the flick only 1 star, she added, "The impending
nuptials of Lopez and Affleck lead the public to expect a romantic comedy
with a happily-ever-after ending. However, the script, by writer-director-producer
Martin Brest, looks as if it began life as a crime drama with a heart.
It has since morphed into a comedy without a pulse." Read more.
