reports Jessica Simpson stopped by Chicken of the Sea's San Diego headquarters

in 1914, when the company was known by another name, we were the first
to can 'light' tuna," Chicken of the Sea senior vice president of marketing
Don George told Simpson. "So consumers would know to expect a mild-flavored
white fish — that tasted similar to chicken — the company marketed it under
the name Chicken of the Sea. It was such a success that the company eventually
adopted the product name." Read more.

October 16, 2003 - Jessica
Simpson and 98 Degrees star Nick Lachey were on CNN's Larry King Live on
Tuesday with fill-in host Ryan Seacrest. Asked about being compared to
Britney Spears, Simpson said, "I have been my whole life. Since I was 12
years old, auditioning for the Mickey Mouse Club, Christina Aguilera and
Britney Spears both beat me out. You know, I froze in the audition, I forgot
everything, and I ended up not getting it. And then, you know, I signed
with Columbia, and I hear -- when I was 17, and I hear that Britney signed
with Jive, you know, the week before, and Christina signed with RCA the
week after, and it like came back around, and then the media has always
kept it. So it's been like this ongoing thing for me, to try to differentiate
myself and try to separate myself, and I try to do that with my image and
I try to do that, you know, through love and through the kind of music
that I sing, and hopefully, people can just get over the comparisons. Even
though they're great comparisons, you know, I'd rather be known for Jessica
Simpson." Read more.

October 14, 2003 - According
to the Borowitz Report, Jessica Simpson was outed today as a CIA operative,
according to a source familiar with the leak, marking another embarassing
incident for the White House. According to the source, Simpson's astonishingly
dense performance on 'Newlyweds' was "just an act – a very, very convincing
act, but an act nonetheless." The source added, "Jessica was acting like
a total dimwit to lull the enemy into a false sense of security. The CIA
was hoping that, over time, Jessica Simpson would be able to smash al Qaeda."

October 10, 2003 - B.J. Sigesmund
of Us Weekly was on CNN's American Morning on Thursday to discuss Nick
Lachey and Jessica Simpson's 'Newlyweds' MTV reality show as part of their
90-Second Pop, Culture Watch segment. Sigesmund said to host Bill Hemmer,
"Bill, it's become everyone's guilty pleasure, and I know you're watching
it too. You're sneaking it in. It's gotten huge ratings, and it's because,
unlike the Anna Nicole show or something like that, even though she's sort
of dumb and kind of a spoiled brat, there's something endearing about her,
something charming about Jessica Simpson. And it's funny to see Nick sort
of get annoyed by her and put up with her. And I think, also, everyone
is fascinated with the first year of marriage within a celebrity marriage."

October 10, 2003 - Christopher
Kelly of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram shared his thoughts on 'Newlyweds:
Nick and Jessica', and the interaction between 98 Degrees star Nick Lachey
and Jessica Simpson. Kelly writes, "Only six episodes old, the show is
fast turning into the most valuable cultural document of our young century:
It's both a study in our modern celebrity obsessions and a scathing attack
on the celebrities who fuel them, Us Weekly and the old Spy rolled into
one addictive package. Nick and Jessica are young, gorgeous, spectacularly
wealthy, enviably privileged -- and, ultimately, two gullible fools who
have unwittingly given us front-row seats to the train wreck that is their
celebrity marriage." He added, "When you measure a marriage by how famous
it is going to make you, how can the less-famous partner be anything but
enraged at the other? This isn't a marriage so much as a public relations
campaign -- a point brought home by the omnipresence of the cameras in
their home, by the very existence of the show." Read more.

really is beautiful. I overachieved."
October 7, 2003 - The New
York Daily News reports MTV has renewed 'Newlyweds', the reality show starring
98 Degrees star Nick Lachey and wife Jessica Simpson. The music network's
surprise hit is largely thanks to Simpson's often zany outbursts, including
one bathroom reference from Jessica explaining, "I think I need to go drop
some kids in the pool." Read more.
October 7, 2003 - Us Weekly
quizzed Jessica Simpson about the reaction she's been receiving from the
'Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica' MTV reality show, which has seen her wonder
if Chicken of the Sea is made of chicken, if buffalo wings came from buffalo,
and her pronunciation of platypus (plat-a-ma-pus). Jess says, "After I
say things, I'm like 'Oops!' I know I'm smart; I just don't think before
I talk." She added, "It's fun to make people laugh. And it's fun to laugh
at myself." As for the chicken tuna debate, Simpson admitted, "I was confused
because I hate fish, but I love tuna salad, and I thought, maybe, it could
be chicken. Now when I walk through the airport, 50-year-old men scream,
'Is it chicken or tuna?'"
October 7, 2003 - Jim Farber
of the New York Daily News profiled how despite the television success
of Jessica Simpson on the MTV reality show 'Newlyweds', the success hasn't
translated to sales of her latest album 'In This Skin', which after just
five weeks has flopped to No. 62 in Billboard, moving a tepid 16,087 copies
in the last week. The sales have prompted Universal to delay the release
of Jessica's husband Nick Lachey's debut solo effort 'SoulO' to November

October 5, 2003 - The New
York Post reports that after MTV's reality show 'Newlyweds,' Jessica Simpson
has now spawned the term "pulling a Jessica" - defined as being stupid,
snobby or behaving like a spoiled-brat airhead. The term has already made
an appearance with commentators on CNN. The phrase follows the post breakdown
phrase 'Pulling a Mariah' in reference to Mariah Carey.
October 5, 2003 - Even if
'Newlyweds' portrayal of Joe Simpson's daughter Jessica isn't very flattering,
he tells TV Guide he's proud of the singer. "What's happening here is Jessica
knows she's on camera," he insisted to TV Guide Online. "Since she was
a little girl, people have been calling her a dumb blonde, [so] she begins
to assume the role that everybody expects of her. That doesn't mean that's
who she is. It's a part of her personality, but it's one that she's enhancing
on the show. It's nothing that's not real, but she unintentionally exaggerates."
He'll get to see more of his daughter on TV with husband Nick Lachey of
98 Degrees, as MTV has picked up a second season of cable's second-highest
rated cable show after 'Sex and the City'. Read more.
