"That's when Jessica called her dad, Joe," a pal revealed. "She told her dad she thought Nick really did try to pick up a woman at the party and was lying to her when he denied it." Joe Simpson, mindful of the bankability of the 'Newlyweds' marriage, cautioned Jessica to calm down. "He impressed upon her how important it was that she and Nick stay together," a friend revealed. But a source said Jessica warned later, "If I can't trust Nick, then I can't be married to him."

When Harrell saw Simpson, she stood in awe for a few seconds, before engulfing her in a hug. The singer/actress helped Harrell, who is battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma, with a red carpet makeover for Winfrey's pre-Oscar show, and she couldn't have been more excited. "Nick's jaw dropped when he saw his wife was just inches from Jessica Jaymes," an insider said. "Thank God, Jessica Simpson was clueless. She had no idea that the woman sitting near her was the same one who had entertained her husband. Nick looked obviously uncomfortable, but he tried his best not to let on. February 28, 2005 - If e-mails posted from Paris Hilton's hacked T-Mobile account at TheDilly.com are authentic, a fierce rivalry between Hilton and her pal Lindsay Lohan is apparently going on with Jessica Simpson and sister Ashlee Simpson that makes Lohan's 'Mean Girls' pale in comparison. One e-mail from Paris to Lindsay said, "Ashley (sic) just won female artist of the year and everyone booed her. So fu**in funny." Lindsay's e-mails point to shocking allegations about Jessica which if true might explain the recently hospitalized star's rapid weight loss, and a suggestion to set up her sister Ashlee under similar circumstances. The cattiness between them may lend support to the earlier alleged note on Paris' Sidekick that Hilton was trying to plant gossip about Jess (Jessica Simpson?) "While Jessica was in Chicago shooting a segment for 'Oprah,' she contracted a stomach virus and became dehydrated," her rep Brad Cafarelli told People. February 7, 2005 - The New York Daily News reports that Nick Lachey struck out at ESPN Magazine's Super Bowl party in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday (February 4). The 98 Degrees singer, married to Jessica Simpson, had his bodyguard as a blonde at the event: "You want to meet Nick? Because Nick certainly wants to meet you." After the pair met, the guard then came over again giving Lachey's cell phone number. "You call in 20 minutes and come over to the hotel," he told her. The woman didn't go, but the report will no doubt fuel speculation that Nick and Jessica's marriage is in trouble.
