June 1, 2007 - Asked by People magazine about her split from John Mayer at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday (May 18), the singer repsonded, "I am very happy, but I don't really want to talk about my personal life tonight because it's not what it's about. But I am very happy. I will let you know that." A source told the mag that while the pair have split, it may be a temporary situation. "They have broken up," the insider explained. June 1, 2007 - The New York Daily News reports Jessica Simpson made her first Cannes appearance on Wednesday (May 16), partying with studio mogul Harvey Weinstein after the screening of 'My Blueberry Nights'. Jude Law, who stars in the film, seemed to find Simpson out of place at the venerable film fest. "What's she doing here?" Law whispered to agent Patrick Whitesell, a spy tells revealed. Simpson announced her next film, 'Major Movie Star', there today.

June 1, 2007 - The New York Post hears Jessica Simpson was a no-show at the Operation Smile benefit the other night and some are now complaining the star has turned her back on a charity she was a huge supporter of for 10 years. "She got a lot of good publicity from the charity but refused to let pictures of her be in the commemorative book and hasn't done anything with them in a year," a tipster complained. Simpson's rep said she was in Germany being honored at the UNESCO Gala to Benefit Children in Need, "partly for her work with Operation Smile. Jess was one of four honorees for her philanthropic work. She sang two songs, and the event raised about $3 million to build schools all over the world."
