March 2, 2002 - Liz Braun of the Toronto Sun gave his review on Josh Hartnett's new flick saying, "Enough. 40 Days And 40 Nights has a couple of good laughs, such as the betting pool put together by Hartnett's co-workers, but is otherwise a vacant space."

March 2, 2002 - Josh Hartnett revealed he scoped out a strip club in prepping for '40 Days'. Josh said, "My friend Maggie Joan Hall was going off to play a stripper in a play in San Francisco so she wanted to go to a strip club and asked me to go with her. We went and we all had a few drinks and the girls we were with really got into it. It was really embarrassing. After that I tried to give all that up - I lasted about two- and-a-half weeks. March 2, 2002 - Ellen A Kim of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer gave '40 Days' a B- rating saying of Josh's character, "Hartnett, a deep-throated, aw-shucks Minnesota boy who squints his smiles, has been altogether wooden in his past endeavors. But as Matt, who's trying to abstain from any form of sex for Lent (the title's duration), his only job is to react -- mostly expressions of panic and discomfort -- which loosens him up considerably." March 2, 2002 - Gemma Tarlach of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel gave '40 Days' 2 1/2 stars saying ,"Highly flawed but crudely funny, '40 Days' is an entertaining way for adults - emphasis on adults - to whittle away a couple hours that they could have spent doing something else." March 1, 2002 - Josh Hartnett spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the scene in '40 Days..' where he's chained to the bed. Josh admits, "That was NOT a good day. I'm not into that bondage sh--. I think I spent a couple of days chained there. My wrists were all raw and cut up -- they were real handcuffs. They had a little bit of fur on them, a little bit of padding, but it didn't help." March 1, 2002 - MTV News caught up with Josh Hartnett to see if he'd give up sex for 40 days in real life like his character does. Josh said, "I would give up sex and everything sex-like 40 days to get get with my next girlfriend, I don't think so. Hopefully I'll have more santy than that. I gave up candy for lent and I really like candy, this is my choice." As for a comedy role, he said, "It is good to challenge yourself. I like the challenge of -- I mean if i wanted to do one thing all the time I would have just gotten a normal job. The fun of being an actor you get to choose things, you know, a different life every 6 months or so."
