create a Pepsi. We might as well beat them to it.' Pearlman's Pepsi, is
of course, *NSYNC. He continues, 'I identified the popular music market

for the music and merchandise of the Backstreet Boys. My challenge was
to convince the millions and millions of teen pop music buyers that the
Backstreet Boys were the brand name band they should buy into.'"

happen to you." Read more.

solo project. "*NSYNC was like this huge entertainment park. This big rollercoaster.
But it was also a plateau," he said. "A plateau that we can jump to other
places from. Joey's doing 'Rent'. Lance is maybe actually going to the
moon, which I can't fu**ing fathom. There's all these different things
that are coming from that park. And for me, well, from the time that I
was 14 until now, straight, I've been doing *NSYNC. Before *NSYNC was born
I had 14 years. You don't know exactly who you are at that point but you're
getting there. And I can honestly say that I knew then that one day I was
going to have an opportunity to show the world what I've got. And this
is it. I was Justin before I was in *NSYNC and now I'm in a time and place
where I'm willing and eager and open to showing the world who that person
is. Showing them what I feel like I was born to do. It'll be interesting
to see how it goes." Read more.

tunes on the website which are totally original, like songs that I wrote
or whatever. And I'll be giving them away for- it's like they'll be free.
And what it'll be it'll be kind of like uh, like I'll have this area where
you can talk about what you like about it, what you don't, and kinda like
get some ideas about the writing styles and you know what people like about
different things and what they don't. It'll be like an open forum in a
way? It's like my way of staying in touch with you know the fans while
everyone's off chillin and everything like that." Read more.

his Backstreet Boys rival Nick Carter, as both prep to release their debut
solo albums. "Oh totally! [laughs] I'm kidding. I don't feel competition.
I heard [Nick's single] 'Help Me', and I think it's a great song. People
are ready to hear a new Bryan Adams. My record is something different-
I wanted to change what people were listening to. If you were 16 or 17

going to dig [my music], because it's a new sound."

Caulfield of Billboard.com fielded a question from a Backstreet Boys fan
wondering why *NSYNC is perceived as the bigger act in the boy band world.
Caulfield says, "For each groups three studio sets, 'N Sync has moved 24.5
million copies of its albums, while Backstreet Boys have sold 27.4 million.
Your point has been proven." He continues, "Why has the media and the general
public perceived *NSYNC as the more successful of the two acts? Radio is
a factor." The last two *NSYNC albums have produced more top-20 hits (6
in total) on Billboard's Hot 100 than the Backstreet Boys have (3 in total)
by comparison. Read more.
October 26, 2002 - Amy C.
Sims of Fox News reports that with pop stars now entering their 20s, many
are eager to shed their adolescent image. *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake
and his Backstreet Boys counterpart Nick Carter each are releasing their
debut solo albums and are trying to shed the sweet for sultry. "Fourteen-year-olds
are over Justin, but women in their 20s now think he's hot," said Atoosa
Rubenstein, editor of Cosmo Girl. On the female side, Britney Spears and
Christina Aguilera have each sexed up their images, which may turn off
some teens. "As Britney has changed her image, there is a direct correlation
with her drop in popularity," said Rubenstein. "Aguilera's new video is
one step away from pornography. Teenage fans feel alienated by the new
image -- they can't bring it home." Read more.
October 26, 2002 - Tom Sinclair
of Entertainment Weekly gave his prediction what *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake
will be doing 13 years from now. He writes, "Following a string of failed
albums and an abortive acting career, in 2015, Timberlake takes a year-long
holiday in the Mississippi Delta with the avowed intention of ''getting
[his] chops together' as a guitar player. He dedicates his 2016 album,
'Really the Blues,' to 'my friend and spiritual mentor, Keb' Mo'.' The
album's soulful cover of Robert Johnson's '32-20 Blues' becomes a left-field
hit, and Timberlake is hailed by elder statesman Jonny Lang as 'the future
of the blues'." Read more.

October 26, 2002 - Justin
Timberlake tells Launch.com that promoting his debut solo album 'Justified'
has been tough without his *NSYNC bandmates and with all the gossip on
whether he's dating Alyssa Milano, Janet Jackson, or others. "As far as
promoting the record without the guys, it's strange," he said. "It's a
lot more personal and, obviously--because for some reason the tabloids
have grabbed a hold of me in the past year--it becomes a little annoying,
the fact that people just want to ask personal questions. And I'm kinda,
like, 'Hey, I've got a record coming out, too.' I mean, I get it. I understand
that that's just something that comes along with it, and I'm cool with
it." Read more.

I got high just being in the room, though!" Read more.
October 25, 2002 - CDNow.com
was the latest in the string of media outlets wanting to ask Backstreet
Boys star Nick Carter and *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake about wheter there
is any competition in their upcoming solo debuts. "Not at all. I think,
honestly, he wants to do R&B and I want to do rock," Nick said. "We
both have something to prove. He's got more going for him at the moment,
but that's okay. I want to sweat. I don't want it to be easy. I don't want
people to necessarily like me in the beginning. I like being the underdog."
Timberlake's responded, "I'm really indifferent about that whole situation.
Obviously, I've answered so many questions about my personal life. I wish
him the best. As far as anybody comparing the two of us at this point,
I feel like it's kind of lazy ... you can tell that we're two totally different
artists. It's like comparing Coldplay to the Vines."

like, 'Oh sh**, this is cool for you, let's keep going.'" Read more.

October 23, 2002 - Tomas.ca
reviewed the debut solo album from *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake. Tomas
says: "'Justified' was much worse than I anticipated. I actually thought
the 'No Strings Attached' album was pretty good. I guess Justin needs those
other boys on tracks. When I started off saying Justin was a talented popstar,
I guess that still holds true. He can make 12 year old girls scream and
he can dance. Overall, this album is very weak. I think I'll stick to hip-hop
when I want beats for the street. I don't really like Justin's voice and
there is nothing special about the production other than when N.E.R.D.
show up." Read more.

into Britney and revealing, "I promised her, I would not talk about why

up with Britney." As for why they broke up and the new women he's been
linked to, Justin says, "The truth is, we're not together. Why we're not
together is our business. Nobody's entitled to it. I wish that things could
have been different. As far as the people I've been linked to go - I know
Janet, we're good friends, we're not dating. I have never had any interaction
with Christina Aguilera - period. And as for the rest of them, it's pretty
much the same." Read more.

tells Lloyd Grove of The Washington Post: "I was suit shopping with my

shopping in the Georgetown Ralph Lauren store. He was with two male friends,
looking sort of haggard and well, just plain frat-boy gross in grimy, dirtyish
jeans and an old T-shirt. The usually snobby Polo people didn't notice,
or at least kept their noses held high in spite of the celebrity presence.
. . . I swear, it had to be him. It was him, I know it was him."

it to something we have done with her in the past, it would be 'Thank God
I Found You,' but I think 'Yours' blows it away," said Jimmy Jam, who produced
the track with partner Terry Lewis. "It is probably one of the best hooks

online starting June 12, when the singer and his Justin Timberlake Foundation
teamed up with the American Music Conference, a national nonprofit educational
association, to get people involved in promoting music education. Harless
personally delivered the petition results to several House and Senate offices.
"I am here for every American parent," she said. "No child can reach his

he tried to phone the *NSYNC star's room but was told he wasn't registered.

October 10, 2002 - Jennifer
Love Hewitt has commented on her Jive Records bandmates *NSYNC and Britney
Spears to Launch.com. "I've only met Britney a couple of times and that
was completely separate from, you now, me really being on Jive that much,"
she said. "Justin from *NSYNC and all the *NSYNC guys I've known for a
while since I was really young. And, you know, they would sit behind me

October 10, 2002 - Perhaps
the biggest news during Justin Timberlake's interview with Scott Mills
of Radio 1 earlier today was his reaction to a listener question asking
"Is Wade cool?" The DJ said, "You worked with him on 'Celebrity' but not
this album. "No no, We don't work together anymore. He's cool," responded
Timberlake. The word "anymore" is pretty heavy, suggesting something went
down. We've heard rumors, specifically from WorldofBritney.com webmaster
Ruben, that in the past that it was a Britney Spears' sex fling with Wade
Robson in the back of a limo that led to the longtime couple's split, and
this seems to reinforce that suggestion.

Britney is a wonderful, wonderful person. But I have issues, she has issues,
what person doesn’t have issues? If she says that she’s confused about
what happened, I can’t honestly say that would be true. Maybe the things
that happened between Britney and me could change. It could take another
180 degree turn and be OK." Read more.

I Love You', while others were interested in his rumored and factual relationships

his decision to collaborate with *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake on the song
'Work It' to Launch.com. "Well, me working with Justin...the dude is talented,"

I don't give a damn who he is, what he's done, he is talented, flat-out
And me saying that, I just like to make good music, folks. You heard me?
I like to do things different. When Run-DMC and Aerosmith did the "Walk
This Way" thing, everyone looked at them kind of strange; probably back
in the day they probably got ridiculed about the whole thing. But now you
look back, and it's a classic--where would we be without that? How could
they have not done that? It spawned a whole new thing: You have Method
Man and Limp Bizkit, you got Gwen Stefani and Eve. So I think it was only
fair for us to take it to that level too." Read more.

October 7, 2002 - Polly Vernon
of the Observer was on hand when Justin Timberlake previewed his new album
'Justified' to reports in Los Angeles. Vernon called the album, "Inventive
and instant, grindingly raw and sexy, it's a truly great record. It's intensely
R'n'B and hip-hop influenced, yet it doesn't sound like anything else.
Except maybe Prince when he was very good, or Stevie Wonder's 'Songs In
The Key Of Life', or Michael Jackson's 'Off The Wall'. Timberlake's voice
is honey-dipped and sweet and achingly right, and every song is produced
by one of a long list of extraordinarily cachet people - Timbaland, The
Neptunes, Bubba Sparx and P Diddy." Read more, including comments from
Timberlake, here.

of the Guardian is sharing his thoughts on the solo projects of *NSYNC
star Justin Timberlake and Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter. Paterson said,
"The boys have abandoned pop and are aching to let everyone know the Lou
Pearlman days are behind them. Nick Carter has obviously studied past form.
He may have ditched the other four Backstreet Boys, but this solo venture
features just as many chins. Like Freedom-period Robbie, Nick is showing
his independence by piling on the pounds." As for his *NSYNC counterpart,
"Justin Timberlake is predominantly relying on the Neptunes, who originally
wrote these songs for Michael Jackson. He was not interested." Read more.

Is it going to be more R&B?' It could be whatever we want it to be.
However we go into the studio, and whatever we're vibing - we could want
to go on to some Ben Harper stuff. We could if we wanted to, and that's
the beauty of having so many heads that have so many different influences,
you know? You go in and make the music that you want to make that feels
good to you, and hopefully people like it. I don't think there's any other
way to be an artist." Read more.

October 5, 2002 - Capital
FM's Schooly spoke with Justin Timberlake in LA and finds out all about
his debut solo album 'Justified'. Asked if branching out solo meant the
end of *NSYNC, Justin said, "Not at all. It's never the end. The reason
people ask that is because they get used to comparing us with groups that
may have been put together, and the thing we keep explaining to people
is that we put ourselves together a long time ago. We were friends for
a long time before *NSYNC blew up as a group, and even if we don't sell
another record next go around, we'll still be friends. We're in it together."

Justin Timberlake spoke with MTV News and explained his decision not to
include Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs' track 'Love Don't Love Me' on his debut
solo album 'Justified', due November 5. "I just thought it was too friendly,"
said Timberlake, addressing an obviously touchy subject. "I felt there
were songs that I did that were too friendly and they weren't big enough
and didn't have enough balls as far as sonics. I think 'Love Don't Love
Me' is a surefire song to get hella buzz on the radio, but that doesn't
mean you should use it on this project." Read more.

Justin Timberlake recently chatted with Jackie O of Hot 30 in Australia.
Justin talked about the new album 'Justified' which Jackie said was great,
performing 'Like I Love You' at the MTV Video Music Awards, he says he
prefers being on his own right now to being with a group, but he thinks
*NSYNC will make another album. Justin admitted that he hasn't played any
of the album to JC Chasez (should something be read into that?), but he
has to Chris and Joey -- and not Lance since he's in Russia. Justin says
if he had to kill one celebrity, he'd kill Howard Stern. Listen to the
three part interview (about 7 minutes total) here.
October 4, 2002 - John Schultz,
Senior Production Assistant of MTV's Total Request Live writes of the appearance
by *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake on September 23rd: "We all knew that Monday
was going to be a long and crazy day. Justin Timberlake is one of the biggest
pop stars in the world right now, so there was a lot of pressure to make
sure that the show went smoothly. So, I ended up getting to work a few
hours early to finish up a highlight package showing all of Justin's moments
on TRL from 1998 to today. Yeah, that's right…while most of my friends
from college are consulting with financial clients, studying in med school,
or arguing a legal case in front of a judge, I'm spending my Monday morning
watching clips of Justin Timberlake dancing and singing on the TRL stage…eh,
it's all part of the job, right? Anyway, the show went off without a hitch.
In fact, we had more Holla Backs than ever before…it was ridiculous to
see how many fans wanted to write a message to Justin." Read more.

October 2, 2002 - Backstreet
Boys star Nick Carter addressed the perceived rivalry with Justin Timberlake
of *NSYNC as both prepare to drop their debut solo albums. Nick tells Radio
1, "First of all, the kind of music I'm doing is more rock/pop and his
is more like pop/R&B. So, you know, it's two different worlds, you
know what I'm sayin'? I'm cool with Justin, I'm cool. I ain't got no problems
with him." He added, "I'm sure everybody's gonna try to compare it and
say 'ooh, here's the next rival'. When you start to get involved in the
whole rival thing, it tends to take away from the creativity of the music...
what you're doing it for in the first place."
October 2, 2002 - Justin

of Justified in stores on November 12th. Note: Digi-pack is just a cheaper
form of packaging. You can read more about it, including commentary from
someone about perhaps why you should stick with the standard jewel box
