January 25, 2002 - Lisa Verrico
of The Times reviewed Kid Rock's 'Cocky' from a British perspective, as
the singer is looking to crack the international market on the back of
Pamela Anderson's noteriety. Verrico said, "While Rock comes across as
a beer-swilling, sex-obsessed hip-hop hick, the real Bob Richie is far
smarter. On Cocky, not only does he mix influences from artists as diverse
as Black Sabbath, Willie Nelson, Run DMC and Lynyrd Skynyrd, he proves
that he’s an accomplished musician by playing bass, banjo, pedal steel,
rhythm and slide guitar, doing all the DJ scratching and producing the
entire album himself." Read more.

financially. That's my goal. Then I can walk away. I promise I won't put
the band together in twenty years and do a reunion tour. I'll go away and
let some other kids come up. I'll only be here as long as people want me."

to be good parents and have a good family. But we also understand we've
got this side to us where we like to have fun, as much as we can, and that
it's a balance. It is funny, though; I used to be Kid Rock who sold 10
million records. Now I'm Pam Anderson's boyfriend who sold 10 million records.
But that's all right; I'm not complaining." Read more.

best thing about Detroit is it's obviously one of the best rock and roll
cities in the world. But the people here are just down-to-earth. If they
see me out with my son, they'll say, 'Hi Rock,' you know, 'How you doing?'
Then if I'm out at a bar, everybody is really cool, down-to-earth. Maybe
it's because I was born and raised here, I don't know, but the people are
what keep me here." Read more.

explained the advantages to musicians over athletes or actors saying, "You
have the most freedom in music. I've had discussions with this with my

actor, where there's 10 million people involved in writing, directing,
producing and being on a sports team, where you got a coach. 'Where were
you guys last night? Oh, you're off the team. You came in too late. You're
hanging out with Kid Rock again.' You know, anything like that. But music
-- you can kinda, you know." Check out the full transcript here.
