28, 2003 - The New York Daily News spoke with Def Jam South general manger
Chaka Zulu about the rise of the South in Hip Hop, which was kick-started
thanks to Ludacris. Zulu said, "Before Ludacris was signed to Def Jam South
in 2000, I had been shopping his demo for a few years." The majors didn't
pay attention, he notes, "until we put out an album independently and got
it played on local radio. Now that the South has become a sales contender,
we can expect to see more labels trying to emulate that success." Read

tells Billboard that he sees his new album 'Chicken & Beer' as a platform
not only for him, but for his Disturbing Tha Peace crew as well. "I'm trying
to promote other artists as well as to promote this album," Ludacris says.
"For example, 'P Poppin' features Shawnna and Lil' Fate, two of the artists
signed to Def Jam South through Disturbing Tha Peace. That's why I put
those two on that record without even second-guessing. I wanted to give

was touting his new single at the MTV Video Music Awards last week. "I
would definitely say 'Stand Up,' the first single from the Chicken &
Beer album, is the best video I've ever done," Luda boasted to MTV News.
"I ain't saying that for no promotion — I actually sat down and wrote the
treatment myself. Dave Meyers came in with more ideas and this video is
just ridiculous. If I don't win a MTV Award for this video next year, I'm
whoopin' somebody's ass, straight up." Read more.

People challenged Ludacris, Chingy and rest of the Disturbing tha Peace
crew to a paintball fight, and ended up getting dusted by the rappers.
"I looked at their faces - they didn't have the confidence in their eyes,"
Ludacris explained. "But they continued, man!" Check out photos from the

joked during his Tonight Show monologue on Wednesday, "Rap star Nelly has
his own sports drink coming out next week called 'Pimp Juice'. Don't we
already have that? Isn't it called Colt-45?" Jay added, "In fact, Ludacris,
he's coming out with his own energy drink. We have it here. This is on
the market today. It's called Yo-Ho. Now with vitamin B-otch."
