July 30, 2003 - When it came
time to shoot Mandy Moore's love scenes in 'How to Deal' with co-star Trent
Ford, they were as awkward as all actors will tell you their love scenes
are. "Trent's a pretty confident guy. I'm a pretty shy modest girl in many
ways, so it's always awkward doing a scene," Moore told ComingSoon.net.
"Especially because at that point in time you've become friends and you're
friends with everyone on the crew. It's just an awkward time for everyone
because the crew guys don't just want to watch you seeing what you're doing
and the director doesn't want to have to give you direction like, 'Um,
don't kiss for that long' or 'Are you adding tongue?' There's
just so many weird elements that go into being romantic on screen and it's
so choreographed too. People don't realize it's like my cheek has to be
in this position, his head has to be tilting this way, we have to linger
couple inches apart before we actually kiss so any sort of romance is long
out of the way before you actually get to do it." Read more.

July 25, 2003 - Mim Udovitch
of the New York Times profiled the darkening hair used by singers such
as Mandy Moore, Christina Aguilera, Pink, and briefly by Britney Spears
-- mostly focusing on Moore with her new movie 'How to Deal' out. Udovitch
says, "As a teenage pop tart, Ms. Moore was, as it turned out, too much
of a natural to actually succeed. In her Neutrogena commercials, her interviews,
and especially in her videos, including one directed by Gregory Dark, a
porno veteran, she came across not as a girl Pinocchio, but rather a real
little girl. She did not seem subliminally furious, and she did not seem
to be trying to remap the geopolitical landscape with nothing more than
her abdominal muscles and a stylist. Rather she seemed intelligent, slightly
awkward and sincere. She appeared as uncomfortable in the parts of her
videos that called upon her to be a pouty sultry nymphet as, well, a 15-year-old."

is featured on the cover of this week's Entertainment Today, where the
actress/singer admitted to struggling with the musical side of her career.
"I wasn’t surprised, I wasn’t shocked in terms of my musical career not
being as successful as anticipated," she admitted. "I’m happy that I’m
still allowed the opportunity to do music and go in the studio and record
and do what I love, ’cause that’s my passion. I’m just as blessed and lucky
to be able to have the opportunity to do stuff in the film world, and people
have been so accepting of that transition. So I’m just counting my lucky
stars that I’m around and there’s an audience out there still, because
that allows me to do what I love to do." Read more.
July 23, 2003 - Us Weekly
caught up with Mandy Moore to ask about her boyfriend and tennis star Andy
Roddick. With Mandy buying a $1.7 million home in Los Angeles that has
the singer still living with her parents, she was asked if mom and dad
have ever walked in on Andy and herself. "I've been lucky enough that it
has never happened," Moore revealed. "I've been both lucky and smart."
Asked what it is like to date Roddick, Moore took a dig at ex-boyfriend
Wilmer Valderrama responding, "I'm very, very much in love. I have never
dated someone who is such a heartthrob. It's weird - girls are flipping
out and want to rip his clothes off. That's my boyfriend!"

July 21, 2003 - Roger Ebert
of the Chicago Sun-Times reviewed Mandy Moore's latest film effort 'How
to Deal', giving it a 'C' grade. Ebert says Moore "has such an unaffected
natural charm that she almost makes the movie worth seeing." But, "the
movie never really pulls us into the story and makes us care, the way those
other three movies do." Still, Ebert concludes, "What the movie establishes
above all is that Moore has a future in the movies, maybe even in the horror
film she's making with Wes Craven." Read more.
July 21, 2003 - John Anderson
of New York Newsday reviewed Mandy Moore's new movie 'How to Deal', giving
it only 1/2 star. Anderson writes, "Rising ingenue Mandy Moore may be more
than just another pretty face, but you'd never know it by 'How to Deal,'
a movie which you will find almost unbearable unless you are 1. already
a huge Mandy Moore fan, 2. 12 years old and 3. clinically dead." Read more.
July 21, 2003 - Christy Lemire
of the Associated Press reviewed Mandy Moore's new movie 'How to Deal',
giving it 2 out of 4 stars. Lemire says that like 'A Walk to Remember',
Moore is "still poised and likable, but this time the material bubbles

come along for Moore, who continues to show that compared other actress-singers
her age, she's the real on-screen deal." Read more.
July 20, 2003 - Jeff Strickler
of the Star Tribune reviewed the Mandy Moore starring 'How to Deal'. Strickler
says, "Moore has an engaging screen presence. She exudes a maturity that
seems beyond her real-life age of 19, and that serves her well in this
project. Halley is the antithesis of the stereotypical starry-eyed teen.
She's not surprised by setbacks because she expects them." Read more.

July 20, 2003 - Actress Allison
Janney spoke with The Early Show co-anchor Hannah Storm about her new movie
'How to Deal', and how she had a great experience working with Mandy Moore
on the project. "She taught me a thing or two. I was intimidated by her
because she's so young, so accomplished and so grounded," Janney revealed.
"At the beginning of the scenes, she did a little improv and I thought
that was so brave of her. She wanted to get the scene going before the
cameras rolled. So when the cameras rolled we would be in the middle of
the scene, things would be happening and alive. I loved her for that. She
wasn’t afraid to make a fool of herself. I'm always afraid to make a fool
of myself." Watch the interview here.
July 20, 2003 - Mandy Moore

had it all figured out," Mandy said. "Then I went through a period of [thinking],
'I don't know what's going on.' But being in love gives you something to

July 18, 2003 - XxmissyxX
writes "Mandy Moore appeared on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' looking
all grown up in more ways than one. She wore a low cut purple designer
dress, which showed off her shapely new figure. Basically, she showed more
skin. This is a first for Mandy considering she has said in the past that
she has been uncomfortable showing off her body because she was either
too lanky or too skinny. But now its obvious that Mandy is stepping out
of her shell and showing the world what she's got, both physically and
emotionally."
July 18, 2003 - Allison Janney,
who plays Mandy Moore's mother in the movie 'How to Deal' tells the New
York Daily News that her romance with tennis star Andy Roddick was the

high ... Everything is spontaneous for me so I can't see myself being tied

July 17, 2003 - Popgurls.com
did 20 questions with Sarah Dessen, the author of 'How to Deal', including
several about the film adaption and its star, Mandy Moore. Asked if she
had any preconceived notions of what she would be like in person, Dessen
responded, "I had no idea what to expect. It's funny how celebrities always
seem smaller in person, but she was just the opposite: she's REALLY tall.
And I thought she'd act more like my students at UNC (University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill) who are about that age, 18-19, but she was so
serious and professional. I was really just concentrating on not acting
like a total dork. I was so nervous I can't even remember what I said to
her." Read more.
July 14, 2003 - The New York
Daily News has a feature story on Mandy Moore as her latest film 'How to
Deal' is set for release on Friday. While Laura Morgan, entertainment editor
of Seventeen, which is putting Moore on its cover next month, was full
of props for Mandy, the singer/actress was quick to give praise herself
to peers Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. "I have a lot of respect
for Britney and Christina," Moore said. "With the barrage of media they've
had to go through, it's admirable how they've come out and appear to be
independent, strong-minded and confident young women." For her part, Morgan
says, "Mandy presents the image [of a] young, smart girl," and, with Britney
or Christina, "the life they lead is so different from the average girl's.
Mandy is someone our readers could be friends with." Read more.

me kiss a boy on-screen," the singer said, referring to her tennis star

July 7, 2003 - Mandy Moore
has posted another clip from her forthcoming 'Coverage' album at MandyMoore.com.
This time Mandy tackles the Joni Mitchell classic 'Help Me'. She writes,

because... she is Joni Mitchell! I think personally this is one of the
songs I wanted to do most, because it was what I was feeling very much
in my life and it was personally what I related to most lyrically. I really
debated about doing a Joni song but 'Help Me' just got under my skin. I'd
been humming it around the house and just finally gave into." Listen to
the 30-second audio clip here.
July 6, 2003 - MTV
News caught up with Mandy Moore in London where she talked about choosing
the butt double for her forthcoming movie featuring her character going
skinny dipping. "There were about 10 pictures that came to me in a little
manila folder," Moore explained the day before production moved to Prague.
"I flipped through them. They were all girls standing facing the wall in
bikinis and high heels. So I had to pick one, which was weird. I had [my]
boyfriend and a couple of other guys look at them. ... I decided to go
with the one I thought looked the most like me from behind." She added,
laughing, "I shouldn't be doing that. I can't be objective about women's
behinds." Read more, including Mandy's comments on her forthcoming 'Coverage'
