January 30, 2004 - Duane
Byrge of the Hollywood Reporter reviewed Mandy Moore's new movie 'Saved'.
He writes, "Its larkish style, combined with its anti-authoritarian bent
should win some enthusiastic teen followers, as well as the Babble-onians
of the Upper West Side and Hollywoodland." Read more.
January
30, 2004 - David Rooney of Variety reviewed Mandy Moore's new movie 'Saved'.
He called Moore the "real surprise" of the film, claiming she's "infinitely
better served by this material than by her recent excursions into vanilla
sentimentality, 'How to Deal' and 'Chasing Liberty'." He explained, "Recalling
her harder-edged performance in 'The Princess Diaries,' Moore's role here
is a controlling monster cloaked in a patina of sanctimonious piety and
hidden insecurity. And if there's a criticism to be leveled at the actress's
highly amusing turn, it's that the director cuts away too early from Moore's
exuberantly cheesy pop stylings as she croons for Christ." Read more.
January 30, 2004 - Popdirt.com's

January 26, 2004 - HipOnline.com
recently caught up with Mandy Moore to discuss her movie 'Chasing Liberty'.
Asked if she enjoyed doing a romantic comedy, Moore responded, "I didn’t
have to be the funniest person in the world; I’ll leave that up to Jeremy
[Piven]. I love these sorts of movies. It’s the kind of movie I’d go see
with my girlfriends." Check out the entire interview here.
January 26, 2004 - With 'Saved!',
Mandy Moore joins the long list of stars who've come to Sundance to shred
their image. In the movie -- a send-up of Christian life in middle America
-- Moore plays the Bible-thumping villain of the piece, a self-righteous
do-gooder who's desperate to "save" -- i.e. convert -- the sinners in her
school. "I've always played the girl that gets the guy, which I'm very
over," Moore tells Kevin Williamson of the Calgary Sun. "I don't get any
guy here -- nothing. It was fun for me playing against type, if you will.
I was so weirded out and excited that (the filmmakers) would have even
thought of me. And to be part of such an amazing cast was an opportunity
I couldn't pass up." Read more, including co-star Macaulay Culkin's comments

Moore responded frankly to posters on her official message board that were
scrutinizing her career moves. She said in a posting on Friday: "Damn...
You guys are bit intense. Let me break it down for you. What you see is
what you get. There is no plan, but rather an idea of continuing to do
what I have been do doing all along. Although it may not seem like much
to you guys, there have been many an oppurtunity to go down a completely
different path and take advantage of resources I would have never felt
comfy with (whether it be movie roles, the music I have sung, magazine
covers, endorsment deals, etc). I'm not here for some 'quick buck'." Read

January 17, 2004 - allyouwanted
writes "According to the Winnipeg Free Press in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada,
Mandy Moore has something that the Britney Spears' and Christina Aguilera's
of tomorrow and today lack: subtlety. You won't see her kissing Madonna,
or getting married in Las Vegas for 24 hours, or her butt get slapped in
crazy music videos. Mandy is not inclined to flaunt her body, however,
her character swims nude in the her newest movie Chasing Liberty. Of the
little you do see (in the dark), is not Moore." Read more.

and that "being a girl, the tears come along with it." After crying and
puking, she needed her hair and makeup redone. Read more.

the singer who she would you most like to emulate in show business. "I
love Bette Midler," Moore said. "I think I'd probably faint if I ever met

respect for her." Read more.

but when it's your first love, it seems so very special." Mandy added,
"I never thought I'd date someone who was such a heartthrob. It was really
weird at first, but I'm finally used to women fawning all over him. He's
oblivious to all the attention which is why I love him all the more." Read

January 12, 2004 - Adam Nayman
of the Toronto Eye reviewed Mandy Moore's new movie 'Chasing Liberty',
giving it only 2 stars. He writes, "The thoroughly unremarkable 'Chasing
Liberty' makes it three negligible movies in a row for Mandy Moore, the
pouty pop starlet with designs on crossover success. But at least this
time out she's allowed to have some fun — neither 'A Walk to Remember',
in which she played a cancer-stricken Baptist, nor the similarly downbeat
family drama 'How to Deal', offered her much in the way of levity." Read

January 12, 2004 - Mandy
Moore tells Betsy Pickle of Scripps Howard News Service she has no intention
of breaking away from her good-girl image and becoming the next pop star
gone wild. "I'm honored to be considered a role model," she says. "I don't
see why people consider it to be such a burden and shun it. At the end
of the day, yes, you have a responsibility to be yourself. But you have
to realize the position that you're in I have a responsibility with the
projects that I do and the way that I dress and what I choose to speak
about or become involved in. That's just, I guess, what we choose to do."

January 12, 2004 - Joe Baltake
of the Sacramento Bee reviewed Mandy Moore's new movie 'Chasing Liberty'.
He writes, "Movies don't get more disposable than this one. That's not
to imply that it's bad — just depressingly ordinary. Sitting through it,
I found my mind wandering. As one forgettable moment followed another,
I thought that someone probably spent a better part of a year writing its
script, that some studio executive read it and liked it enough to give
it the go-ahead, that actors auditioned for it and that Moore sat up nights
learning her lines and thinking about her character's motivation. Locations
were scouted, caterers were hired to feed the cast and crew, and journalists
probably visited the set. In short, a lot of time, talent and money was
spent on a film that probably no one will really care about." Read more.

magazine reports songwriter Jive Jones is considering legal action against
Denise Rich and her former business partner Ric Wake for allegedly refusing
to pay him producer royalties for songs he wrote with Rich, including Mandy
Moore's hit 'Candy'. Jones complained, "It’s really funny because she’s
so rich. I made Mandy Moore from the song." Read more.

and they made me sweat," Goode said. "Andy fought for me, an unknown."
Mandy interjected, "Matt had no idea who I was." Goode responded, "I thought
she was a bit of a diva. Someone said she was sweet as candy." Moore swats
at him. And later, when asked about her boyfriend Andy Roddick, Mandy seemed
to throw cold water on a long-term romance. "How can you say it will last
forever?" she asked rhetorically. Read more.

January 10, 2004 - Wesley
Morris of the Boston Globe reviewed Mandy Moore's new movie 'Chasing Liberty'.
He says that despite it's release in the "movie dead zone known as January...
There are, though, signs of life in 'Chasing Liberty'. None of them are
intelligent, but Moore is such an exuberant and feeling girl-woman that
it's surprising how much you'll tolerate Andy Cadiff's zipless direction,
just because the star seems happy." Read more.
January 10, 2004 - Mandy
Moore told Mark Steins of Entertainment Tonight that though it would appear
she bared some "behind" for her swimming scene in 'Chasing Liberty' --
it was actually a body double. "I'm a modest girl. No one has seen my butt

January 10, 2004 - Mandy
Moore's relationship with tennis star boyfriend Andy Roddick has thrust
the singer and actress further into the spotlight. "I think it’s difficult
for both of us, but probably for him more so, because he’s never been used
to people asking about his personal life," Moore told the CBS Early Show.
"I think being in this industry you sort of open yourself up a bit more
for that kind of scrutiny. It’s odd. It’s weird to talk about each other.
It’s weird for people to want to know bits and pieces of your relationship.
And you want to keep a lot of that to yourself because once you admit you’re
dating, people feel you owe it to them to answer any question." Read more

January 10, 2004 - Mandy
Moore tells The Associated Press even though she recently got a tattoo

in sexy photo shoots for men's magazines like FHM or Maxim. "It's not my
cup of tea," she said. Read more.
January 10, 2004 - Gregg
Shapiro of Windy City Media Group caught up with Mandy Moore for a Q&A
about her new movie 'Chasing Liberty' and her latest album 'Coverage'.
Asked if the album of covers was a conscious effort to separate herself
from the pack of young female singers, or was it a way to show off your
excellent taste in music, Mandy responded, "Thank you! It was a conscious
effort to be creative and have fun and go against the grain. Because I
had been absent from the music scene for two years and I know I hadn’t
had too much musical success, so there were no expectations. I felt like
I had the creative control to make whatever sort of record I wanted. When
I started to compile a list of my favorite songs, the more I thought about
it, I thought I can be selfish and kind of self-serving and do this music,
not only just for me but to introduce people my age to it, who might be
unfamiliar with some of these artists and music." Read more.
January 10, 2004 - Mandy
Moore visited the NBA Store recently and expounded on one of her favorite
subjects: The NBA. She says, "Hi Guys! Even though I am not exactly athletically
gifted, I'm a hoops junkie. Always have been. Growing up in Orlando, I
wanted a pair of Penny Hardaway sneakers so bad I joined a basketball league
just so I could get them. My family had season tickets to the Magic back
in the Shaq-Penny days. We had two really good courtside seats and two
nose-bleed seats and it was always a battle as to who would sit where during
the games. I love T-Mac, but it's tough forgetting those Penny-to-Shaq
plays that would lift me out of my courtside seats. That's right, I usually
won the battle." Read more.
