Post's Liz Smith saying, "You know they are both really good singers. But
they are caught in the push to be overly sexy and to sell themselves as

29, 2001 - The Village Voice's Michael Musto says, "'I'm convinced that
Mariah Carey fled the clinic way too quickly and went right back onto the
PR treadmill that got her there. (You have to kill to have a rebirth.)
Proof that her release was rushed—that makes 101 free luftballons, if you're
counting—is that the instant Mariah was out, she was reportedly worried
about the way her hair looked in a Post photo. The woman needs to develop

reports from melt-away.com and Mariah's official site message boards indicate
that Mariah Carey may perform Never Too Far at the Video Music Awards next
month in dedication to the fellow singer and actress killed over the weekend.
August 28, 2001 - Mariah
Carey's new album Glitter has hit #1 in Japan in it's first week, making
it the 5th #1 album in the country for her, which is more than any other
international female singer has ever done.
August 28, 2001 - Jack Sojka
tells Daily Variety Mariah's problems may have begun due to her role in
Wise Girls where the film's producer admits, "When she arrived on the set
three hours late, she claimed she had hives and had to go to the doctor.

CD thank you notes slam perhaps Mariah and Mandy Moore as she says, "May

August 25, 2001 - Timbaland
was on Much Music today criticizing Mariah's look in Loverboy trying to
compete with Britney saying, "Look at Mariah Carey, I mean what was that?
Now why would she, a woman in her thirties, a woman who has had 15 #1 hit
singles, even compete with Britney Spears, or Britney Whatever!"
August 24, 2001 - The New
York Daily News reports Mariah's rep told them she would not say when or
where the chat would take place but did confirm the interview. Cindy says
Carey's doing the interview "to clear up a lot of nonsense and rumors that
have been in the print press. Mariah wants to resume her normal life."
August 23, 2001 - The New
York Post reports pals are saying Mariah is hanging out in Puerto Rico,
"Mariah is resting in seclusion with family and a few close friends." Cindi
Berger insisted. "She is not staying at that hotel and she is not partying."
August 23, 2001 - The Star
has photos of Mariah, very blurry, but they do show a bandage around Mariah's
wrist. Carey's lawyers insist the wrist wasn't bandaged and that she didn't
attempt suicide.
August 23, 2001 - In a move
many would have anticipated, Mariah Carey will make her first post-nervous
breakdown interview with ABC-TV's Barbara Walters on 20/20 September 12th.

Carey tells the Enquirer that Tommy Mottola has made Mariah's life a living
hell following their divorce. Carey revealed, "There have been death threats,
warnings to program directors nationwide, prank phone calls to her residence,
physical and electronic surveillance, attempts at intimidation of her staff
and a vicious public relations assault, all apparently orchestrated by

August 20, 2001 - John Leguizamo
tells the New York Daily News he has some advice for Mariah Carey,"Try
Sammy's Anti-Depressant! It works for me." The actor admits during the
8 month filming of Moulin Rouge where he wore prosthetic legs left
him a bit depressed.
August 19, 2001 - The Star
is continuing their Mariah coverage, although they're running on the incorrect
notion that Mariah's voice message comments were actually written diary
entries... we and anyone that did the slightest amount of research know
this isn't the case. Apparently though an insider is revealing Mariah's
rehab includes her writing her thoughts and feelings, with a source revealing,
"It's therapeutic for Mariah to keep up her diary - it helps to get her
emotions and feelings out there, and she can share these thoughts with
her doctors."
August 19, 2001 - The Enquirer
is reporting that the incident where Cindy Berger grabbed the mic from
Mariah during a press conference was brought about by a heavy alcohol binge
that saw her collapse and after staffers got her up and tried to feed her,
Mariah refused to eat and instead grabbed a bottle of champagne saying,
"This is what I need to relax - this will get me through the day." An insider
revealed Mariah will be attending drug and alcohol classes to learn more
about her problem.
August 19, 2001 - The Globe
reports Mariah Carey spent $25,000 on a champagne filled bath in an effort
to seduce Luis Miguel into proposing marriage to her. Miguel apparently
thought Mariah was trying too hard and her seductive one day, moody the
next turned him off. Despite her problems, a friend revealed, "Mariah has
come a long way. She's been telling her family, 'Just watch me come back
bigger and stronger because of this.'"
August 18, 2001 - The Milwaukee
Journal Sentinel reports Mariah Carey made a surprise visit to the Fresh
Air Fund's Camp Mariah in Fishkill New York earlier this week. Mariah brought
Mister Softee desserts, a portable CD player, and copies of Loverboy for
each of the 140 youths at the camp.
August 18, 2001 - The New
York Daily News reports Mariah Carey stepped out of her Tribeca condo Thursday
afternoon dressed in baby blue. They also report Mira Sorvino told writer
Robin Milling, "We had one verbal argument, one day. There was no physicality
whatsoever — as if you could really imagine me rolling on the ground and
pulling her hair out, as The National Enquirer said. My mother called me
and said, 'What's this? I read that you were on the ground with Mariah
Carey!' I said, 'Mom, how can you, of all people, believe that?!'"

has an article/interview on Mariah before her breakdown where she
admitted in the interview, "I'm thinking of a million things. I didn't
know we were doing this (interview)... The fans are waiting ... and I don't

August 17, 2001 - Mira Sorvino
was on both Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight to explain what
happened between her and Mariah on the set of Wise Girls. Mira admits,
"I just need to set the record straight. That never happened. We had a
little discussion. It got cleared up the next day. No physical fight ever,
ever occurred between myself and Mariah. That is just the most ridiculous
thing I can imagine." So apparently the two got in an argument, but nothing
more.

has an interview with Mariah Carey before her medical problems that may
leave the magazine red faced as Mariah was asked if she gets drunk. Carey

reports Mariah Scary-Carey recently checked into the Mandarin Oriental
in London as "Miss Cupcake." The site also reports when talking to journalists,
Mariah Carey's PR is instructed to describe Mariah's breasts to be "as
God intended".

Sun reports Mariah will be visiting Australia in October and fans in the
country will be able to buy Glitter two weeks before America and Europe.

condo, according to a source. Staying at her mother's lacked security.
Cindi Berger says Mariah "is doing much better." The paper also reports

Mariah.

York Daily News reports New York state troopers arrested a paparazzo for
trying to snap a photo of Mariah Carey, this after Mariah's mother filed
a criminal complaint against him.
August 10, 2001 - Jay Leno
joked about Mariah and the hot weather in his monologue Thursday saying,
"Man, I tell you, it was so hot I turned my air conditioner all the way
up to Hillary. That's how hot it was. Woo! I tell you, it was so hot, I
was sweatin' like mariah carey's publicist."

reports Mariah Carey's new album, Glitter, has a new release date of September
11. A Virgin records spokesperson declined to comment on the reasons for

Ted Casablanca reports the Mariah - Miro fight did indeed happen though
Sorvino's rep insists to Ted that saltshaker Mariah threw at her client
was not aimed at Miro.
August 9, 2001 - Kathy Griffith
was ragging on Mariah during Politically Incorrect last night saying, "Mariah
Carey just checked herself into the hospital to get away from that crappy
movie she made. I will be at the premiere of it along with all the gay
men in the world!"
August 9, 2001 - The Globe
reported that Mariah was staying in a North Westchester Hospital, which
yesterday was essentially proven false. They report Mariah suffered an
emotional collapse after being dumped by Luis Miguel, who suspected Mariah
was cheating on him with Eminem. They report Miguel "had a flunky call
her cell phone to tell her Luis wouldn't be calling again - ever. That
was the last straw for Mariah. She cracked up in her hotel room."

quotes the woman who stayed in the room across from Mariah at the Tribeca
Grand saying, "I was shocked to see a river of blood streaming down her
left arm, from her elbow down to her hand. The first thing that crossed
my mind when I saw all that blood was that Mariah had tried to commit suicide."
Nia added Mariah's handlers were desperate to get her out of the hotel
revealing, "They kept telling Mariah: 'You've got to get out of here right
now. You're making a scene and you've got to calm down."

Tonight talked to Mariah Carey on the set of her Allure cover shoot where
she talked about her diamond bracelet she received from Luis Miguel as
well as comments from Allure reporter Venessa Grigoriadis who admits in
hindsight she would have taken Mariah's concerns more seriously.

York Daily News reports spokeswoman for Carey argues that the "00-Soul"
project "died a couple of years ago. It never got off the ground." They
also report the private investigator Mariah hired, Jack Palladino, is finding
people more willing to come forward about Tommy Mottola trying to 'destroy'
Mariah's career. Palladino admits, "They feel so badly for my client that
they are now sharing information they weren't before."

at Virgin tells the Chicago Sun Times' Bill Zwecker they are concerned
about Mariah, "It's not that we're worried she'll ever record again. It's
the quality of the work that counts. Nobody wants to shell out $100 mil
on [junk]." Zwecker also reports Mariah is being treated for an eating
disorder while she's currently hospitalized and the run-in with Sorvino

trashing that landed her into psychiatric care admitting, "She basically
lost it and started throwing plates. She just broke down and started a
major ruckus. She somehow cut her arm with the broken crockery and kept
saying weird things." Morgan denied the cuts were an attempt at suicide.

has broken his silence on accusations that he is trying to undermine Mariah's

custody under the state's Mental Health Law had she resisted efforts to
