Night Live's Jimmy Fallon opened Weekend Update last night by joking, "U.S.
Officials continue the search for Osama bin Laden. Reports suggest that
bin Laden is most likely hiding out somewhere remote and barren, where
he will not encounter others. The FBI has begun searching theaters showing
the movie 'Glitter.'"
September
30, 2001 - News of the World's Rav Singh reports following Virgin Records'
has seen its share price plummet and will reportedly be announcing soon
they'll be dropping 10 acts from their roster, which includes Mariah Carey,
Atomic Kitten, Janet Jackson and the Spice Girls.
September 30, 2001 - Popmatters.com's
Cynthia Fuchs has a huge profile of Mariah Carey and her recent troubles
to her performance at the America: A Tribute to Heroes telethon.
Fuchs writes, "I am struck by her obvious fragility and stubborn resilience,
her rawness and her weirdness. As irrelevant as she's always seemed to
me, she has been very relevant to everyone who has bought her records and
posters and keychains. Their relationship to her is theirs, and they are

Leno joked about Mariah Carey's movie Glitter yet again Friday saying,
"Movie theaters showing the movie 'Glitter' have announced that out of
every $8 admission, $3 will go towards acting lessons for Mariah Carey.
Isn't that something?"
September 29, 2001 - Oscar
winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno talking
about his role in the telethon last Friday and when Jay asked if he invested
in Mariah Carey's movie Glitter, Cuba responded, "I had 25 cents in it.

Splashnews.com photo search site has photos of the stripper that Mariah
Carey reportedly danced with and tipped $250 at a club called Snooky's.
There also is a photo of the tattoo on her leg that the stripper got after

JAMZ FM in Norfolk, Virginia talked to Rick James about working with Mariah
Carey where he encouraged the troubled singer saying, "Don't worry Mariah.
Let the movie...the movie will do what it's going to do. You just get better,

September 28, 2001 - Village
Voice gossip writer Michael Musto gave his thoughts on Mariah Carey's movie
Glitter and like just about everyone, blasted the film. Said Musto, "It's
a tawdry compendium of every showbiz cliché ever imagined—every
two seconds, some character emerges to say, 'God, you're talented!' - that
drew derisive guffaws at the press screening last week." He does think
the movie is amusing, though in an inadvertent manner.

photo search site has photos of the stripper that Mariah Carey reportedly
danced with and tipped $250 at a club called Snooky's. There also is a

September 27, 2001 - E! Online's
Ted Casablanca reports Tyra Banks and her mother went to see the new Mariah
Carey movie last Friday, where the supermodel was spotted laughing at a
scene in the movie where Mariah's face glitters. Read more.
September 27, 2001 - Heartening
news out of The Globe this week as, according to an insider, "Mariah told
a pal, 'I'm moving in the right direction. Every day is better.' Mariah
is a beatiful and talented singer and she's battling back." Apparently
Mariah ran into trouble a second time because, as the insider revealed,
"She went back to work too soon because she was desperate to prove she
was still bankable."
September 27, 2001 - The
America: Tribute to Heroes telethon raised a staggering $150 million for
those affected by the terrorist attacks in the United States on September
11. The concert was broadcast on 35 US networks and in 200 countries around
the globe, with a total audience that exceeded 100 million who watched
Mariah Carey and others perform.
September 26, 2001 - The
MTV Europe Music Awards have been announced where Mariah Carey and
Jennifer Lopez will battle for Best Female Artist. The show that will be
held November 8 in Frankfurt, Germany. Read more.
September 26, 2001 - The
New York Daily News' David Hinkley talked about how the problems of Mariah
Carey seem insignificant after the tragedy on September 11. Hinkley says,
"When 'Glitter' opened this weekend, hardly anyone even noticed that it
was a bigger flop than Pat Buchanan's presidential campaign." Read more.
September 26, 2001 - Mariah
Carey and the others who performed on the America: A Tribute to Heroes
telethon last Friday will be featured in a CD that will be out in a matter
of weeks, according to the New York Daily News' Mitchell Fink. While a
price for the album hasn't been set, both the artists and the record companies
manufacturing and distribution have waived any of their fees and 100% of
the proceeds will benefit the September 11th Telethon Fund. Insiders predict
the album will clear 10-15 million copies.
September 25, 2001 - Launch.com
talked to Ludacris about his opportunity to work with Mariah Carey on her
debut single from the Glitter album. On working with Carey, he admits,
"It was good, you know, breaking bread with Mariah Carey also, and drinking
Cristal in the studio with her and all that. I was having a lot of fun.
She's a real down-to-earth person. I really hope to work with her again."
September 25, 2001 - Mariah
left a message following her telethon appearance on Friday saying, "Hey
Lambs, I'm just calling to say thank you so much to everybody that contributed
in the um telethon yesterday cuz I know we did really really well umm with
that so thank you so much and I also wanna say thank you to the fans that
came out for the little screening we had for "Glitter" the other night.,
that was a lot of fun aaaannnnddd I snuck into the movie last night to
check it out with some freinds and that was fun. So ummm, thank you much
I'm gonna be calling in soon & um I'll talk to you again buh bye."

September 25, 2001 - Well
despite her miserable performances on screen and on album in terms of sales
figures, interest in Mariah Carey remains high. In August, Goto.com had
a whopping 190,050 searches for 'Mariah Carey', this not even counting
various misspellings. Also, 'Mariah Carey nude' wasn't the #2 term unlike
many of her competition, instead at #3. Read on for all the various search

September 24, 2001 - Mariah
Carey's 'Glitter' performed miserably in a weak movie weekend as estimates
for the film show it only drawing $2.5 million, which wasn't enough even
to make the top 10. 'Hardball' was the top film for the week but only drew
$8.2 million in sales.
September 23, 2001 - Jay
Leno joked on his opening monologue on Thursday, "Well as you all know,
Mariahs new movie is out tomorrow. *Applauds from crowd* Isn't it funny?
the movie is being released even before she is."

(MTV) talked to Mariah Carey before she entered the screening of her movie
to a well receptive Power 106 contest winning audience. Mariah revealed
her thoughts on her own recovery and the nations saying, "My fans have
gotten me through all my personal little issues, and I want to give them
back, even if it's just for tonight, a few minutes of peace. Definitely
every American is grieving in their own way, so I'm just happy to be here."

September 22, 2001 - The
Los Angeles Daily News' David Kronke blasted Glitter giving the movie 1
star saying sarcastically, "Sit through "Glitter" and you too may feel
like checking yourself into a hospital for 'exhaustion.'" Read more.
September 22, 2001 - Apparently
the message has been up awhile but problems with displaying it have kept
people from knowing it was there. Mariah tells her fans, "Hey Lambs, So
erm, because today is the day of mourning we went and stood on, me and
my friends and my friend Louise is here with me, and we went on one side
of the road and lit some candles and stood there and made some new friends
and met some people. Yeah, we're just trying to talk about the incidents
that are going on and things that had been happening over the past weekend
and understand a little better and trying to be with people as we move
on, ya know and trying to recover from this situation so I want to tell
you that I love you as always and I enjoy you very much and erm thank you

September 22, 2001 - The
Boston Herald is profiled the troubles of Mariah Carey and today's release
of Glitter. Syndicated radio therapist Dr. Joy Browne said in their article,
"She's gone through a lot. Making a movie that reportedly isn't fabulous,
a tumultuous personal life, a record that's doing badly and issues with

horrific reviews of Mariah Carey's Glitter are coming in as Detroit Free
Press movie critic Terry Lawson gives the film only 1 star as he claims,
"While 'Glitter,' designed to launch singer Mariah Carey's movie career,
is blatantly modeled on "A Star Is Born," it may send Carey's already falling

Mathews of The Daily News is ripping into Mariah Carey's movie out today,
Glitter, calling her performance, "astonishingly bad, awkward beyond anything
one could imagine from a singer with as much experience before live audiences

September 21, 2001 - Mariah
Carey's first week album sales of Glitter were a major disappointment even
factoring in the terrorist attacks that occured on the 9-11 release date.
Glitter managed only 116,000 sales in its initial week, with Jay-Z clearing
427,000 in the same period with his new album, The Blueprint.
September 21, 2001 - According
to Foxnews.com's Roger Friedman, Mariah Carey will perform Hero at the
all network telethon on Friday. Friedman also has new information on the
same song which prompted a lawsuit by Chris Selletti. As well, Friedman
slices up Mariah's new movie saying of the diva, "Indeed, Mariah is not
much of an actress, even with all the coaching. Her face seems immutable,
as if it were full of paralyzing forces that prevent her from showing emotion."

September 20, 2001 - The
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel talked to Eric Benet ahead of the release of
Glitter this weekend where he revealed Mariah Carey gave no signs of her

September 20, 2001 - Entertainment
Tonight reported Wednesday that Mariah Carey has been added to the still
incomplete list of people to perform in AMERICA: A Tribute to Heroes on
Friday from 9-11PM, a telethon to raise funds and raise the spirits of
all who have been touched by the horrific tragedy that has struck America.
There are also reports that Enrique Iglesias is on the bill but nothing

to the New York Daily News' Mitchell Fink, Mariah Carey was released the
same morning the terrorist attacks occured in the United States. Read more.
September 19, 2001 - The
Village Voice's Michael Musto reports he talked to famed photographer/director
David LaChapelle about Mariah Carey where the 'Loverboy' director said
of the troubled diva, "She really needs a rest. She needs to sleep and
eat. I've gone crazy myself and had to be put away! Sometimes the best
place to get a rest is a hospital."
September 19, 2001 - According
to Entertainment Tonight, Mariah Carey is likely to attend the premiere
of her new movie Glitter in Los Angeles on Friday. Mariah has been staying
in LA after being released from the UCLA Medical Center's psychiatric ward.
September 18, 2001 - The
Enquirer is revealing shocking details behind Mariah Carey's pysch ward
admittance at UCLA. Mariah was headed on an airplane to the east coast
when a series of bizarre acts by Mariah have her family terrified and has
her friends suggesting "She needs long term hospitalization, maybe as long

September 18, 2001 - Early
sales results in from HitsDailyDouble.com indicate that Mariah Carey's
debut week for Glitter will be a mega-disappointment as she currently is
showing 77,529 album sales with 65% of the figures in. The figure puts
her at #7 in the countdown with Jay-Z trouncing everyone in a weak, tragedy
filled week with 299,853 units sold. NSYNC looks much weaker with only
42,832 sales to this point, putting them at #19.
September 16, 2001 - The
Mirror reports Mariah Carey's appearance earlier this week outside of the
UCLA medical center's psych unit was just a trip to go buy french fries.
A friend told the Mirror, "Doctors say she is suffering from a manic-depressive
disorder."
September 15, 2001 - Photos
of Mariah Carey outside of the UCLA Medical Institute emerged on the web
today. Mariah is shown wearing a pink top and blue jeans entering a SUV.

Los Angeles Daily News talked to a music insider about Mariah's repeat
breakdown so close to the release of Mariah's movie and album and says
many in the entertainment business are upset and rather unsympathetic with

New York Post's Mitchell Fink is reporting that Mariah Carey will possibly
be released from the UCLA Medical Center today, which would coincide with
today's release of Glitter.
September 12, 2001 - The
Boston Herald's Sarah Rodman chimes in on the Mariah Carey release of Glitter
giving it a respectable 3 out of 4 stars. Rodman main problems with the
album were the hip hop guest stars who litter several tracks which she

New York Post is reporting Arista's L.A. Reid, who was ready to sign Mariah
Carey to a huge contract but after she insisted on total artistic control,
he walked away from the deal.
September 8, 2001 - Worldpop
is reporting that lawyers for Mariah Carey forced her into treatment by
getting a court order sending her to the UCLA Medical Center.
September 7, 2001 - MSNBC's
Jeannette Walls reports the delayed release for Glitter may cost Mariah
as fans have been downloading it off the internet since it has been released
already overseas.
September 7, 2001 - Salon.com's
Amy Reiter reports Macy Gray is interested in fighting Mariah after seeing
her video, "Who would I like to take on in a fight? Well, I saw the last
Mariah Carey video, I'd like to punch her!"

John Bitzer, editor-director at the online music retailer CDNOW tells AP
reaction for Mariah Carey's Glitter "was not favorable." Blitzer says,
"I think her fan base will come to her rescue to some degree, but I don't

Foxx opened his Video Music Award monologue with perhaps his worst material
saying, "You see what's about to happen, don't you? It's about to go down.

September 6, 2001 - The Sun
is reporting Mariah checked into a hospital in Los Angeles for additional
psychiatric care. The Sun reports Barbara Walters is expected to fly to
Los Angeles to do her recently postponed interview with the singer.
September 6, 2001 - Additional
details, or lack thereof, from Cindy from the New York Post as they report
the rep saying, "She is resting in an undisclosed location." When pressed
where that could be she said, "She could be in a hotel, on a boat, anywhere.
She just needed some time to rest."
September 6, 2001 - Entertainment
Tonight reports Mariah Carey's rep Cindy Berger told them "No comment"
when asked if Carey has been re-admitted to the hospital.
September 5, 2001 - Mariah
Carey cancelled her 20/20 appearance where she was to be interviewed by
Barbara Walters citing a need for more rest. Walters responded to the news
saying, "We were concerned to hear that Ms. Carey would be unable to do
the interview at this time, and wish her well."
September 5, 2001 - The New
York Post reports Jennifer Lopez was the reason Mariah was sent over the
edge. Mariah had sampled Firecracker by Japan's Yellow Magic Orchestra
when she recorded Loverboy six months ago but freaked after J. Lo released

September 5, 2001 - Beyonce
sent her best wishes to Mariah and lamented about the work stars must do
nowadays saying, "So many people want so much from you that it's very hard
to find time for yourself. It's really important to surround yourself with
people who love you and tell you when to slow down because it's so easy
to just want to work, work, work." Beyonce adds, "I'm very happy that Mariah's
doing well."
September 5, 2001 - Hector
The Rock Dog reviewed Mariah's upcoming album Glitter and says if the album
wasn't a soundtrack, you'd call it unfocused, "Mariah Carey doesn't know
if she wants to be Barbra Striesand or Missy Elliot. Her success was based
initially on taking the Striesand path but somewhere along the journey
off she trotted down Missy Elliot Highway." Read more.
September 3, 2001 - In an
abstracts.net poll asking if you believe Mariah's problems run deeper than
just suffering from exhaustion, 71.1% said yes, 20.2% said no, and 8.7%
were unsure. There were 356 total votes cast.
September 2, 2001 - Mira
Sorvino talked to US Weekly about Mariah Carey though first said, "I don't
know if I want to talk about it." Sorvino was asked if she foresaw the
troubles that were to come upon Mariah and she responded saying, "No, nothing
as extreme as this."
September 2, 2001 - A blind
item sounding like either Britney or Mariah, the New York Post asks,
"Which persnickety pop queen isn't making any fans in her new East
Village apartment building? Since moving into her swank co-op a few months
ago, the bubbly diva has refused to even look at her neighbors or tip building
staffers who did work on her pricey new digs."
September 1, 2001 - Mariah
Carey is scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on September
14. Ashton Kustcher and musical guests P.O.D. are also on the lineup, so
it looks like she'll just be interviewed for Glitter and no performance.
