[Mariah Carey] - she loves to duet."

April 23, 2003 - Busta Rhymes
stopped by MTV's Total Request Live on Wednesday with his kids and Spliff
Star from the Flip Mode Squad. Busta talked about hooking up with Mariah
Carey on 'I Know What You Want'. He said, "They went through a whole bunch
of suggestions around, Split came up with suggestions, but ultimately the
best was the one we didn't make, which was let's just see how, you know...
let's just see who the best person would be to sing the part and it's without
question that Mariah is one of the best singers period, hands down." Spliff
added, "She's viola, viola." Check out the entire transcript here.
April 18, 2003 - HiT recently
chatted with Mariah Carey and asked the singer about her thoughts on Toni
Braxton coming out and giving her credit for mixing diva R&B with hip-hop
way before it became cool. "Yeah, I saw that, that was nice of her. I love
hip-hop," she said. "I grew up on hip-hop in New York. I experienced the
birth of hip-hop. It's organic for me. But people don't understand. Take
'Dream Lover'. It's a cute little pop song, but it's based on a sample
of a record called 'Blind Alley' which has been used by so many rappers
just freestyling - 'Ain't No Half Steppin'' by Big Daddy Kane for one.
The average public hears 'Dream Lover' and has no clue. But Q-Tip said
to me, 'You realize you're a catalyst for what's happening in music right
now. You used 'Blind Alley', you sang over that loop.' It takes someone
knowledgeable about old school hip-hop to know that. I love ballads, they're
therapy for me. But doing 'Boy (I Need You)' with Cam'ron or 'You Got Me'
with Jay Z, that's part of me too." Read more.

April 16, 2003 - Jephreda
Hudson of the USA Vanguard weighed in on artists making the leap into acting,
taking shots at Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, and *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake.
"What causes me to scratch my head in wonder is the person who saw Mariah
Carey in 'Glitter' and allowed her make another movie," Hudson argued.
"I’m not the biggest fan of Carey’s music but I don’t think anyone would
argue with me about her need to stick to her high-pitched, arm-flailing
screeching." Hudson added, "I have not seen 'Crossroads' (and I’m dying
to do so) but from what I’ve heard from some very reliable sources, Britney
Spears did not give what would be considered an outstanding performance.
Not even my boy, Justin Timberlake, is excused. I have seen a few things
he’s been in, including a made-for-TV Disney movie and his acting was so
stiff, I was embarrassed for him." Read more.

April 8, 2003 - Teen Scene
magazine wasn't impressed with Mariah Carey's diva-like behavior backstage
at the Soul Train Awards earlier this year. They write, "Usually, how it
works, the artists go from the 'photo room' to the 'general press room'
for questioning- but not the diva of all divas. Mariah Carey merely waved
over to us, and then left. In the true spirit of a diva, she left us hanging-
never to come back. ... So, it seems Mariah Carey lives up to her public
image she has so rightfully been bestowed." Read more.

is no question that the daring choice of releasing 'Yours' would be better
in all aspects. It would definitely appeal to a broader audience and even
gain new Justin and Mariah Fans." Read more.

of Mariah Carey's 'Thourgh The Rain'. It was called 'Not Insane'. It had
Mariah catching Butterflies with a net and her running around in her underwear
with ice cream (like on TRL). In the original video it's Mariah's mom going
places with her boyfriend and stuff and she drops a charmbraclet. Well
in the Parody it was [Whitney Houston] with Bobby Brown and instead of
a charmbracelet she drops drugs!"

and bling-bling gold jewellery" into a private room saying, "Mariah needs
Mariah time!" Ten minutes later she's out, a lot more chilled, big smile
on her big face, and ready for action. "She was dead nice," said the source,
"not a bitch at all, but looked deeply unhappy and troubled and kind of
worn-out."
April 3, 2003 - Liz Smith
of the New York Post was full of compliments for Mariah Carey today. She
writes, "Mariah Carey is all over Europe these days, performing and soaking
up adulation. Mariah loves being a star. She does not disdain perks. She
does not hide from her fans. She does not pretend to be the girl next door.
... Mariah, following her own drummer, has also not heeded the advice of
industry experts who advised her to tone down the scanty clothes and sexy
ways, and instead, focus on her amazing voice. I guess Mariah figures she
has a number of assets and why can't she be a great singer with a great
rack?" Read more.

to have in order to get her life back on track. "Yes, I believe so," she
said. "I believe that everything happens for a reason and it's actually
a miracle that I made it as long as I did through the difficult situations
that I encountered. It wasn't a nervous breakdown, but it was definitely
a breakdown in terms of emotionally and most definitely physically, because
any time you go six days without sleep, your body's going to, you're going
to collapse, I don't care who you are." Read more.
