press conference. Mariah also performed 'My All', her biggest hit in Russia,
at the 2003 Tafy Awards of the Academy of Television (the Russian equivalent

several times a week to do underwater leg lifts, arm circles, and squats.
"It tones her arms, legs, and butt," says her trainer Patricia Gay, who
added, "Mariah loves the water. Pool or ocean." Her hairstylist Roque says,
"Mariah is growing her hair. I took it blonder, too."

September 26, 2003 - WENN
reports director Brett Ratner has created 'Hillhaven Lodge: The Photo Booth
Pictures', a new book containing shots his A-list pals have taken of themselves
in the black-and-white photo booth he bought for his Hollywood home. Most
of the pals, including includes Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Ralph
Fiennes, Liv Tyler, Justin Timberlake of *NSYNC, Colin Farrell, Paris Hilton,
Kim Cattrall, Sean 'P Diddy' Combs, Jude Law and Heidi Klum, were OK with
him releasing the book, except Mariah Carey had some issues. Ratner laughed,
"Everybody in the book is a personal friend, so I didn't have to contact
anyone for permission. But some people had vanity issues. I had to send
Mariah Carey - who's a very good friend of mine - the pictures to let her
know which ones I would use. Some of them have to have image control."
September 26, 2003 - Kizzardkid
writes "MTV News announced today that Mariah Carey has signed a publishing
deal to release a book. When asked by MTV correspondent John Norris during
Total Request Live on Thursday if the book would be a memoir, Mariah replied
with, "I think it’s a little early for that. We’ll just have to wait and
see. If there is one, you’ll be the first to know." Despite Carey’s answer,
it is rumored that the book will indeed be a detailed account of her life
and will include stories of childhood struggles and adult obstacles, as
well as poetry. Publishing sources also note that music journalist David
Ritz is attached to the project. Ritz previously assisted Aretha Franklin,
Etta James, Smokey Robinson and B.B. King with their autobiographies."

special on Mariah Carey called 'Mariah: The Complete History.' The 1-hour
special will raid the VH1 and MTV archives to look back at Mariah’s record
breaking successes (#1 hits, multi-platinum selling albums, Grammy wins)
and how she has triumphed over adversity. "We’ll look back with respect
for her accomplishments, appreciation for her one of a kind voice and sensitivity
(and sense of humor) for her human frailties." Visit VH1.com for air times
and dates."
September 23, 2003 - Rafer
Guzmán of Newsday was in attendance Thursday at Radio City Music
Hall for Mariah Carey's Charmbracelet tour stop. He writes, "And although
the first song, 'Heartbreaker,' didn't call for it, Carey immediately began
squeaking out her famous, frilly high notes. She did so on nearly every
song, lacing them together like musical doilies and passing them out whether
they were needed or not. For nearly two hours, the concert unfolded like
a long parade of lame ideas taken from the worst of mainstream culture.
The set borrowed blatantly from the movie 'Moulin Rouge,' resembling a
Parisian artist's garret, complete with awful 'paintings' of Carey on an
easel." Read more.
September 23, 2003 - The
New York Post reports Ivanka Trump showed up at Mariah Carey's post-concert
party at the Canal Room Thursday night, telling photographers, "I'm not
here to be photographed, I'm here to meet a friend." Once inside, Ivanka
made sure she wouldn't be recognized on the way out by changing from a
preppy white polo shirt and sweater into a black lingerie top. Though Ivanka
was happy to sit in a secondary VIP area with Pras, Philip Bloch and Janice
Dickenson, Denise Rich "threw a fit" when she realized Mariah had a more
private VIP section across the room, spies revealed.
September 23, 2003 - The
Canadian Press spoke with Kiley Dean and asked the singer who are some
of her inspirational peers. "I have five women who, growing up, were just
it," Dean said. "That's Basia, Mariah, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston and
Taylor Dayne. Those were the five women I totally emulated. I never had
a vocal coach, but I give Mariah Carey the credit. When I was a kid I would
pop her CD on and she was my vocal coach. She taught me how to riff. She
taught me how to use my head." Check out the entire Q&A session here.
September 21, 2003 - The
Mirror reports Mariah Carey makes no secret of the fact that when she brings
her Charmbracelet tour to the UK next month, she will be looking for a
boyfriend. "Men think I'll never be interested in them because I'm a star
and can have whatever I want," she says. "I'll take whatever as long as
they're tall. I'm pretty tall so I usually end up with guys smaller than
me. So it's got to be a guy that's bigger than me. A nice Englishman would
be good too." Read more.

September 21, 2003 - How
would 'American Idol' champ Kelly Clarkson react if critics compare her
to fellow warbler Mariah Carey, whose voice, it has been said, covers an
impressive spectrum but lacks soul? "The people who said that must be tone-deaf,"
she snapped to Lionel Seah of The Straits Times. "Mariah is an excellent
writer and singer. I believe she doesn't receive the credit she deserves."

September 21, 2003 - Dan
Aquilante of the New York Post reviewed Mariah Carey's concert at Radio
City Music Hall Thursday night (September 18). He writes, "During Carey's
nearly two-hour concert supporting her 'Charmbracelet' album, the sexy
singer worked a program that tested the full range of her remarkable multi-octave
pipes. She hit everything from low purrs to notes so high, dogs in Elmhurst
were howling. And she looked terrific, modeling more than half a dozen
outfits just slutty enough to make the boys lust and glamorous enough to
make the girls envious." Read more.
September 21, 2003 - Mariah
Carey responded to talk that she had lost her way, letting others call
the shots and mold her to whatever is hot at the moment, rather than following
her own instincts. "I don't feel that way with the 'Charmbracelet' album
at all. I have a wide variety of influences," she tells Mark Brown of Scripps
Howard News Service. "I love hip-hop music and always have. I've been doing
collaborations with hip-hop artists since Old Dirty Bastard in 1996 with
'Fantasy'. I have the capacity to do a gospel-influenced ballad or a hip-hop
influenced record. I don't feel I should be limited into doing one or the
other." Read more.
September 19, 2003 - The

Preston Bailey is creating butterfly motifs to celebrate her sold-out Radio
City Show.
September 19, 2003 - Anonymous
writes "I'll start out by saying that Mariah Carey blew me my dad and the
whole crowd away. I heard a guy behind me that wasn't a fan and he was
saying he never realised how beautiful her voice realy was. Her voice was
so powerful last night as powerful as ever if not more. My dad love's her
but is a big critic of her if you know what I mean and he was blown away.
He even admitted it was the best concert he ever went to and I had to agree
with him on that. What can I say but she's is back in a big way she has
grown so much as a performer. She hit more than every note she went for
different one's that were better than the album version's. The highlight
of the show for me was 'Bringin On The Heartbreak' because she took it
to a new lever and add a lot more guitar it was more rock than Def Leppard's!
I mean this is definitely the best concert she has ever done next to Fantasy.
So now all we can do is wait for them to release a DVD to the concert because
it was so good I just don't want that momment to end I wanna watch this
concert a million times."
September 17, 2003 - Heath
McCoy of the Calgary Herald caught up with Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen
who defended the group's decision to let Mariah Carey cover their 1981
power ballad 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak', despite the negative reaction
many hardcore fans have given the move. "They've really reacted weirdly
to it," Collen said. "They'll say 'It sucks. You shouldn't let her do it.'
Jesus, man. She's an icon. She's one of the most influential singers of
the last decade. I mean, someone like Christina Aguilera is trying to imitate
what Mariah did... (The fans) really get it wrong sometimes. She's on our
side and it's an honor she's done it. Really, that's the only way we're
getting played." Read more.

at Wang Theatre on Monday night.
September 10, 2003 - The
Boston Herald reports KISS-108 Music Director - and budding pop star -
'Kid' David Corey got a big letdown from Mariah Carey at her Wang Theatre
gig last night. He was scheduled to open for Carey, but the diva decided
to disinvite Kid David because she felt KISS-108 was dissing her new single.
An insider said, "KISS didn't add her new release, 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak,'
to the station's playlist. So she told David not to bother to show up for
the gig!" Mariah had earlier reportedly complimented Kid for his new single,
'Now That I Love You', and used the opportunity to invite him to open at
the gig. "If they had told him that the gig was conditional on him adding
her song to the playlist, he would have said no," said the spy. "But that
was never mentioned." Read more.

September 9, 2003 - Katrina
T. Gathers of New London Day reviewed Mariah Carey's performance Saturday
night (September 6) at Fox Theatre. She writes, "Mariah Carey can sing.
Let's rephrase that — Mariah Carey can sang. I would never lump myself
into the 'fan' category, but after her performance Saturday night at Fox
Theatre, I can honestly say that I am no longer a hater, but an appreciator."

September 8, 2003 - The Evening
Standard reports Mariah Carey says one of her fans likes to dress up as
her pet. "There's a girl in Japan who dresses up as my dog," Carey revealed.
"She has a website devoted to him." The diva doesn't mention which of her

to whom the singer is guardian, her Jack Russell (Jack) or her Yorkshire
terrier (Ginger).
September 8, 2003 - Bill
Dean of The Ledger reviewed Mariah Carey's concert Wednesday night (September
3) at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Dean writes, "With an imaginative
set design and a backing group of five musicians, 10 dancers and four backup
singers, Carey not only showcased a wondrous fiveoctave vocal range but
also dabbled with invention and innovation." Dean added, "In contrast to
any suggestion of haughty diva-ness, the 33-yearold Carey was giving and
appreciative of her singers, allowing them to shine on a song of their
own and in 'I'll Be There,' her Jackson 5 cover that featured singer Trey
Lorenz. The crowd of 2,261 (with a capacity of about 2,500) responded accordingly,
giving the singer an enthusiastic reaction that was earned and deserved."

September 8, 2003 - WENN
reports Mariah Carey says she laughs off most of the tabloid reports about
her strange behavior. "The private life they create for me is, like, bizarre
and I read the stuff and sometimes it makes me laugh," Carey explained.
"They once wrote this thing about me and a fat farm breakdown: 'Her staff
were forced to go on the same diet and then they snuck out to eat cheese
burgers, then took breath mints so she wouldn't know.' I'm sitting there
thinking, I wasn't in a fat farm, I was in a spa with fattening food there
that I could've eaten. I don't even care about fast food, and if they had
wanted to eat hamburgers until the cows came home, I wouldn't have cared.
I put that story up on my kitchen wall because I thought it was just so
funny." Read more.
September 7, 2003 - Mariah
Carey is complaining to German newspaper Stern that she hasn't been able
to find a new man after her breakup with Luis Miguel two years ago - because
she's "too famous." Carey moaned, "Men think I'll never be interested in
them because I'm a star and can have whatever I want."
September 7, 2003 - Actress
Tia Texada spoke with Chaunce Hayden of Steppin' Out magazine and spoke
regrettably about working with Mariah Carey on the film-flop 'Glitter',
and the diva behavior the singer exhibited that ended up ruining the film.
"It was a disaster from the time I got there," she fumed. "It was just
horrible. I wanted to quit, but I couldn't because when you're in, you're
in. I would call my manager every day, trying to get myself off the film.
I was so new and I thought you had to listen to what you were told. People
would say, 'You have to wear this!' and I would just say, 'Well I don't
want to wear that!' But everyone, including Mariah Carey said, 'You have
to wear what we give you or you're fired!' She did not want any of us to
look good!" The sexy actress added, "Let me just tell you that I wasn't
allowed to show any of my body in this movie because she would not allow
it. It's too bad because she's so beautiful and talented that she doesn't
need to be that way. But she was very insecure. Everyone else I worked
with, whether it was Colin Farrell, Chris Rock, Renee Zellweger, or Morgan
Freeman, have all been so generous and easy to work with. But working with
Mariah was really hard. She knows that I feel this way. When you work with
actors, you have to make those around you who you're working with feel
comfortable. But she tried to make us all feel horrible and it came out
in the film. That's why the film was such a flop. In fact, she cut out
all my dance moves. She said, 'Sorry, but this movie is about my singing
not your dancing.' She just ruined the film." Read more.

writes "Rolling Stone Magazine is counting down the 25 Most Memorable Music
Moments in NFL History. Coming in at number twenty-three is Mariah Carey’s
performance of the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXXVI on February 3, 2002.

Carey steps to the Super Bowl stage and belts it out with style, proving
herself to be as resilient as the country she’s singing about," says the
magazine."
September 3, 2003 - The Daily
Star reports Mariah Carey is set to record a duet with soul legend Stevie
Wonder in a bid to boost her career. "Mariah has always been a huge fan
of Stevie," a source close to Mariah said. "But she'd never dared to try
and set something up. Recently the office phone went and it was Stevie
Wonder himself on the end of the line."
September 3, 2003 - Evelyn
McDonnell of the Miami Herald was on hand Monday night at the Broward Center
for the Performing Arts to watch Mariah Carey perform, and was left disappointed
by the several outfit changes and a virtual circus on stage, as well as
the diva's strained voice. "The band intros demonstrated that if Carey
relaxed with her vocals, instead of trying to fill each song with flips
and cartwheels, she could be an entertaining song stylist," McDonnell noted.
"But by trying to always do it all, Carey winds up doing little at all.
Her voice is as damaged as her reputation; it's nowhere near as big as
the sound she would like to create, and as the drama that surrounds her.
Beautiful, talented, eager to please, Carey wants desperately to be America's
sweetheart. Perhaps she has tried too hard. With her theatrics and her
sometimes hyperfemininity, she veers dangerously close to a camp parody
of herself." Read more.
