25, 2005 - The New York Post reports Mariah Carey is angry and hurt that
Eminem has been playing private voice-mail messages she left for him in
2001 to audiences of his Anger Management tour. "First of all, that is
not her voice on the 'messages' played in the concert — it is an imposter,"
a friend of the diva insisted. "She is considering suing him for defamation.
They did hang out, but it was Eminem who followed her around. He became
obsessed with her. Showing up everywhere... She thought he was a friend.
She thought hanging out with him was fun, but then he wanted to take it
further, and she said no. She never slept with him and he felt rejected
and scorned and got very angry." Read more.
August 25, 2005 - It is the
cover story, the Tuesday Science Section of The New York Times, researchers
say that gossip can serve as life‘s informal handbook on how to behave,
clarifies unwritten rules among groups, and makes newcomers to a group
feel less isolated. Michael Musto, columnist for the 'Village Voice', was
on 'Countdown with Keith Olbermann' Tuesday to discuss the study. Asked
about Eminem playing tapes from Mariah Carey on his Anger Management Tour,
Musto said, "He‘s not as skanky as he could be. He could have played a
tape of her throwing plates and having a public meltdown a few years ago.
And while he does actually puked into a toilet bowl... did you read about
this Keith? -- while he singing his song. Weren‘t we all doing that when
we watched 'Glitter'? he‘s just appealing to a commonality in all of us."

August 19, 2005 - Mariah
Carey used to pray that she'd be kidnapped during her 5-year marriage to
then Sony Music boss Tommy Mottola. "I longed for someone to come kidnap
me back then," Mariah told Allure magazine. "I used to fantasise about
that a lot. I'd have my pocketbook with me at all times in case I had to
make an escape."
August 11, 2005 - USA Today
music writer Ken Barnes took part in an online chat on Tuesday (August
2) with readers, and was asked about a message making the rounds alleging
that Mariah Carey fans ganging up to help make Madonna's new album a flop
by calling radio stations and saying the new single is bad (Though many
suspect that the stunt was started by enemies of Carey, purposely making
the singer and her fans look bad by spreading the phony message). "Interesting
concept. Is Madonna supposed to be such a threat to Mariah that her album
must be discredited in order to keep Mariah on the airwaves," Barnes asked.
"Loony tunes. Hardly the same audience, anyway, not much in common outside
of their gender. Can't imagine anything like this, even if it gets going,
will have any discernible effect." Check out the entire chat here.
August 11, 2005 - Globe magazine
reports that Mariah Carey is being tapped to be a judge on the fifth season
of 'American Idol', but being on the same panel as "Mr. Nasty" Simon Cowell
isn't appealing to the chart-topping diva. "I love the talent and all that,
but Simon has a real attitude problem and I think he is way too cruel,"
Mariah said. "I guess other than as a guest, that could rule me out."
August 11, 2005 - Kelefa
Sanneh of the New York Times is suggesting that this year's song of the
summer is Mariah Carey's sublime ballad 'We Belong Together', not Rihanna's
'Pon de Replay' or Gwen Stefani's 'Hollaback Girl'. Why? Just look at the
Billboard Hot 100 chart. Sanneh writes, "After last week, when Attorney
General Eliot Spitzer of New York got Sony BMG Music Entertainment to pay
a fine of $10 million for improper promotional practices, listeners may
be especially skeptical of songs that monopolize radio the way Ms. Carey's
song has. But as she can attest, money and fame are not enough to prevent
a big star from releasing a big flop. Even the cleverest promotional campaign
is not enough to persuade the country's radio stations to play a single
song a quarter of a million times in three months. And this summer, everyone
seems to be singing her song." Read more.
