Sun reports that firemen had to wake a sleeping Mariah Carey and alert
her to the seriousness of a fire in her Hollywood home after neighbors
called to report it on August 24th. "There was a small fire... in the Los
Angeles home that Mariah Carey is currently renting," a spokesman for the
singer said. "Mariah was never in harm's way... No one was hurt."
September 10, 2005 - The
New York Daily News reports that while Mariah Carey was doing a last-minute
sound check at Miami's National Hotel for her Video Music Awards performance,
the songbird said, "Whoever is smoking a cigarette, I love you, but please
put it out." Then, after a moment, she added: "I'm not being a diva! Nobody
write any gossip story about me being a diva!"
September 10, 2005 - The
Associated Press reports Mariah Carey, who staged a huge comeback this
year with 'The Emancipation of Mimi', nabbed the best-selling R&B artist,
best-selling pop female artist and female entertainer of the year awards
at the 2005 World Music Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. "This
is an incredible night," Carey said after accepting the female entertainer
of the year award. "I never expected to be standing here. ... I will never,
ever, ever forget this." Read more.
September 10, 2005 - Jeannette
Walls of MSNBC.com reports that Mariah Carey told Swedish mag Groove that
she got her incredible singing range from smoking. "It's true. The two
lowest octaves are probably there because of the smoking," Carey said.
"But of course it's not good to smoke. I always had a cold and constant
throatache." So she quit, she said. "One day I promised God that if he
would give me my voice back I would never smoke again. I got three octaves

at the National Hotel wasn't happy with the Mariah Carey MTV Video Music
Awards dress rehearsal -- which didn't include Carey. "She insisted upon
a full-dress rehearsal, without her, on Saturday night," the guest complained
to The New York Daily News. "And she may be on vocal rest, but that didn't
stop her drinking and partying until 3 a.m. on Friday night." Read more.

Murphy and Mariah Carey hooked up Friday night in Miami, according to The
New York Daily News. After Carey arrived at Prive, both stars immediately
started whispering into one another's ears and nuzzling. Back at a banquette
with pals, Murphy, "held hands with her under the table," one nearby spywitness
added. Finally at 3:30 am, they slipped out, heading to the Hotel Setai
in the back of a Mercedes. A spy revealed, "They were sitting in the car
15, 20 minutes until nobody was on the street and then they went in together."

reports that Mariah Carey's 'We Belong Together' hit the 13-week mark as
the No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. It's the first song to rule
for 13 weeks in seven years when Brandy and Monica's 'The Boy Is Mine'
