June 25, 2006 - ContactMusic.com
reports that Mariah Carey is denying she employs a personal drink holder
after the singer was photographed
a while back drinking water out of a straw from a glass a woman was holding
during an autograph signing session. "That is so, ugh...I was at a record
signing and I signed about 3,000 records," she explained. "Most artists
will go for maybe half and hour, then they leave everybody standing there.
I always feel guilty doing that, so I stay for a long time. I'm signing
with one hand and shaking somebody else's hand, so someone tapped me to
take a sip of water, and then they took a picture. But believe me, I'd
much rather hold my own glass! I can't even get a proper assistant, how
am I gonna get a cup-holder?"

25, 2006 - Anonymous writes "Despite having a successful comeback album
last year with 'The Emancipation of Mimi', Mariah Carey's 'The Adventures
of Mimi: The Voice, The Hits, The Tour' is having a hard time selling tickets.
According to MariahCarey.com, three shows (September 3 in Hershey Pennsylvania,
September 18 in Denver Colorado, September 25 in Seattle Washington) have
just been canceled. Tickets for her tour went on sale nearly a month ago
and NONE of the shows have sold out yet. A huge pool of tickets are available
for every Mariah show currently listed on ticketmaster.com.
Even the very cheap $18 tickets are still widely available for her concerts.
Where have the Mariah fans who massively bought her album have gone since
last year? If these shows are unable to combat low sales, more cancellations
are likely."

June 25, 2006 - divinah writes
"Back in 1989, it used to be just Madonna's playground. Number ones here,
number ones there. Her controversies used to translate into hits and big
bucks back then. Enter 1990 and music history, as we knew it, suddenly
changed when a 19 year-old girl with big hair and a huge voice entered
the music scene: Mariah Carey. Madonna got upset, anxious and threatened
as this talented newcomer stole the heart of the US (that is, THE world),
winning awards left and right, receiving positive media accolades, and
-- most of all -- churning out hit after hit, number ones after number
ones." Read more.

June 13, 2006 - ContactMusic.com
reports that Mariah Carey often has to scold people for making racially
insensitive remarks. The singer, whose mother Patricia is Irish-American,
and late father Alfred Roy was African-American said, "I'm in a room a
lot of times with only white people, and they forget and say things that
are offensive - and I have to put them in check. And I'm sitting there
and I'm thinking I'm either going to have to leave or I'm going to have
to talk about it. After travelling the world, I think racism, or ignorance,
is everywhere. It's in the US, Italy, France. Even in certain Latin American
countries, where it's a very mixed society."

June 13, 2006 - While Randy
Jackson said on Friday's 'Larry King Live' that Madonna's show had inspired
him, Carey insisted to MTV News the pair are batting around ideas that
aren't as focused on making her stage show "over-the-top theatrical" as
they are about "the music, the songs and connecting with the fans." Carey
said, "Here's the thing, a lot of people just do their new stuff, and I
can do that, but I'm the kind of person who hates to disappoint people,
and there are just some people who won't be happy unless they hear a specific
song: 'If I don't hear "Fantasy," I'm going to be mad.' So I'm trying to
take certain songs that are, dare I say, classics, to new places." Read

June 2, 2006 - When The Chicago
Sun-Times asked a slate of singers and vocal coaches which pop stars possess
real vocal talent, nearly all of them mentioned Christina Aguilera. Celebrity
voice coach Roger Love remarked, "She's the last new artist that was really
incredible. I teach Natasha Bedingfield, who's got one of the top pop records
in the country, but there's still nobody out there who can sing like Christina
Aguilera. She has a 3-1/2-octave range, and she sounds totally powerful
with it." But Chicago Symphony Orchestra composer and pop arranger Cliff
Colnot had a different opinion of Aguilera's new pop rival. "Mariah Carey?
Oh, come on," he sneers. "If you asked who was the most famous, then yes
-- Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera. But I
didn't think that was your question. Mariah Carey ... is a little trick
pony. She leverages her range like she should, but it's not new or unique.
She's borrowing from other people." Read more.
