September 29, 2006 - Nominees for the 2006 American Music Awards were announced on Tuesday (September 19) at a press conference in Beverly Hills. Mariah Carey, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Eyed Peas and Nickelback lead the nominations with three nods each. Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Jamie Foxx, Pussycat Dolls, Rascal Flatts, T.I., Carrie Underwood and Kanye West each received two nominations. Winners will be announced during a Live star-studded show on ABC-TV featuring celebrity presenters, live performances and other surprises on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 8:00 PM ET/PT from inside the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. September 15, 2006 - PerezHilton.com received several emails from angry fans, many who paid upwards of $160 a ticket, to see Mariah Carey perform an abbreviated concert at the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut over the weekend. "Mariah barely played for an hour," reports one miffed Mimi fan. "We are demanding a refund! Everyone in the audience was so mad. She cut songs out of the show and was just not into it at all." September 15, 2006 - Mariah Carey's current tourmate Sean Paul came to the singer's defense in an interview with Adam Graham of the Detroit News. "I've seen some people say she doesn't have much rhythm, and she's not dancing on stage," the dancehall sensation said by phone. "I don't understand why they just don't appreciate a good voice. I don't know anybody else who could sing so high it sounds like a whistle, and that, to me, is a special person. When she goes -- God bless her, which is going to be many years from now -- you're not going to find that again. You have to respect people for what they do, for their talent, for what God gave them." Read more.

September 15, 2006 - Roger Friedman of FoxNews.com reviewed Mariah Carey's concert at Jones Beach Amphitheater on Sunday (September 3). He writes, "The Jones Beach Amphitheater is an outdoor venue, but that didn't stop Miss Mariah from wearing what was basically a black peignoir set for the first few numbers. Yes, this is lingerie, but it showed off her very toned body." Friedman, who has been harshly criticized by Madonna fans for his fawning over Carey, added, "Even when she's hoarse or losing her voice, Mariah still sings like a bird and performs vocal tricks that no one should attempt at home. There's no augmentation what she has at the moment is what the audience gets, and even with the wind blowing and her midriff bared, Carey managed triple lutzes and some gorgeous notes that were right on target." He writes, "Her concert, like the great 'Mimi' album, emphasized club jams over ballads. Early on, a show-stopping rendition of 'My All' came back to life as a thumping house track. And she often emphasized the extremes of her vocal range: the smoky low notes and the smoke-alarmy high ones. Throughout, she betrayed a charming anxiety about pleasing the crowd." Read more.
