HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - British actor Clive Owen ("The Bourne Identity") will be playing the title role in "King Arthur" for Disney. The picture will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Antoine Fuqua ("Tears of the Sun").
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be a demystified take on the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and promises a more realistic portrayal of Arthur than has ever been presented onscreen. The film will focus on the history and politics of the period during which Arthur ruled - when the Roman empire collapsed and skirmishes over power broke out in outlying countries - as opposed to the mystical elements of the tale on which past Arthur films have focused.
In negotiations to co-star in the picture will Owen's fellow Brit Stephen Dillane ("The Hours").
Owen has a recurring role as the mysterious Driver in the BMW online commercials directed by Guy Ritchie, Ang Lee, John Woo, Joe Carnahan, Tony Scott, and John Frankenheimer. He'll be seen next in Martin Campbell's "Beyond Borders" opposite Angelina Jolie.
Production on "King Arthur" is scheduled to begin this spring.
