Lara Rocks the 'Cradle of Life'!
July 21, 2003

ANGELINA JOLIE journeys across the world in search of the mythical Pandora's Box in the action-packed sequel 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TITLE: Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life

OPENING: July 25, 2003

STARS: Angelina Jolie, Gerard Butler, Simon Yam, Chris Barrie, Djimon Hounsou

WRITER: Dean Georgaris

DIRECTOR: Jan De Bont

THE PLOT: Adventurous archaeologist and world explorer Lara Croft (Jolie) is on a death-defying search for Pandora's Box, an ancient Greek artifact that, according to mythology, can unleash misery upon the world. After journeying to a sunken, underwater temple, she gains possession of an enchanted sphere that holds the power to uncover the Box's location in an ancient place known as the Cradle of Life.

However, the magical map is immediately stolen by Chen Lo (Yam), the leader of an evil crime syndicate. He plans to hand over the sphere to the villainous Reiss, who is intent on using the Box as a doomsday weapon. With the help of her ex-boyfriend Terry Sheridan (Butler), Lara must journey across the world to protect the Box and the future of humanity.

THE SKINNY: The action-packed adventure is the sequel to the 2001 film 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,' which opened to $48 million and finished with over $131 million at the box office. The film's fiery starlet Angelina Jolie has already signed on for a third film, which is likely to be greenlit if the sequel scores a strong opening at the box office. The franchise is based on the popular "Tomb Raider" videogame series, which recently released its latest installment, "Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness," exclusively on the Sony Playstation 2.

RANDOM TRIVIA: The sequel features a new set of filmmakers, including director Jan de Bont ('Speed') who takes over the reigns from Simon West. Scripted by hot newcomer Dean Georgaris ('Mission: Impossible 3'), the movie was shot in many exotic locales including Kenya, Hong Kong, Wales and the Greek isle of Santorini. Jolie's father, actor Jon Voight ('Ali'), had a role in the original film, but will not be appearing alongside his daughter in the sequel due to tension between the two.
