Britney: The truth about me and Justin
Britney's N-sync with Justin Again (apparently)
Defiant Briney Spears last night insisted her romance with boyband star Justin Timberlake is NOT over.
In an exclusive interview with the News Of The World, the pop princess said: 'We haven't split up. I love Justin and we are still together.'
Britney's fierce denial came after a week in which she was seen without her £100,000 engagement ring and flew home to her Mum.
Meanwhile *Nsync singer Justin was seen kissing a busty brunette, then attracting the attention of celebrity beauties at a top Hollywood nightspot.
Fight
Sources close to the couple claimed Justin had called off the engagement after a huge bust-up over the phone.
But although Britney admitted the argument had taken place she claimed it had NOT spelled the end for their relationship.
The 21-year old millionairess told us:' We had a massive fight but it wasn't over a woman or anything like that, just about spending time together.
'We've both been under a lot of pressure. With Justin working on solo material and me doing a film, we hardly saw each other.
'The only way we've communicated for the past few months has been on the phone. That would put a strain on any relationship.'
She added: 'We had a huge row which ended in us both slamming the phone down but things are OK now. We are trying to find time to see each other but our schedules are just too busy.'
*NSYNC are touring until the end of April, while Britney - whose new film Crossroads opens in the UK on March 29 - kicks off her tour at the beginning of May.
She admitted: 'We don't really see each other that often but do talk on the phone constantly.
'We leave each other messages all the time because of the time differences when we're working, so when we get up we can hear each other. That really helps you through the day.'
Reports that the couple's two year romance was over began to make headlines at the start of the week. Here's how the story that gripped the showbiz world developed.
Monday:
Reports emerge that the relationship has finished. Sources claim 21 year old Justin ended the affair because he was tired of being apart so often.
Tuesday:
Britney issues a denial that the relationship is over. But other reports suggest she is broken hearted - and being comforted by her dance tutor Wade Robson who close friends describe as 'her rock.'
Wednesday:
Britney and Justin's behaviour appears to confirm a split. He is spotted kissing a buxom brunette, sparking rumours the beauty is behind his break-up with Britney. Justin and his mystery girl are later spotted sharing a Mexican meal then partying in Hollywood nightclub A.D. with Cameron Diaz and Britney's pop rival, Christina Aguilera.
Witnesses say Christina was admiring Justin as he strutted his stuff on the dancefloor while Drew Barrymore apparently could not take her eyes off the hunky singer.
Thursday:
Britney is seen without her engagement ring. Reports say the sexy singer has flown back to her home town, Kentwood, Louisiana, to be with Mum Lynn after cancelling a holiday with Justin.
Friday:
Shocking reports emerge that the pop princess, was dumped over the phone. Justin tells an *NSYNC fan: 'Girls are trouble, just stay away from them.'
Saturday:
Britney tells me rumours are false and that she and Justin are still together.
The rumoured break-up is the only blight so far in Britney's fairytale success story.
The pin-up singer is a world wide phenomenon, selling more than 50 million albums since she hit the big time age 17, singing BOMT in a saucy school girl outfit.
Her latest album, simply called Britney, has sold 17 million copies alone.
She recently recieved £100,000 to perform her single Overprotected on ITV's Frank Skinner show and is also raking it in with her newly-published novel, A Mother's Gift. Her movie Crossroads is already a massive box office hit in America.
Britney's debut acting appearance in the Hollywood film helped make £12 million in its opening weekend. A month later it is still in America's top ten.
Hectic
Britney's next movie project centres on the world of motor racing. The as-yet untitled film is still in the early production stages, but Britney says: 'It's very exciting.'
On top of that she is to appear in smash comedy drama Sex And The City.
But with such a hectic schedule and increasing pressure on her private life, Britney has told bosses at Jive Records that she wants more time to spend with her family and has cancelled a promtional tour.
One record executive revealed: 'There's been Britney hysteria since the Justin story blew up.
'But it doesn't do any harm to record sales. In fact it helps sell more singles.'
'Both Britney and Justin are on the same record label. The company will be quietly pleased with all the media attention which will result in them gaining more fans.
'You can't buy that kind of exposure.'
