MARIAH'S FATHER DIES
Condolences to Mariah Carey. The "Glitter" star lost her father, Alfred, to cancer. He died on July 4 at his New York home.
The singer flew back from the Italian island of Capri last month to be with her dad during the final stages of his illness. "She's grateful that she had a chance to spend these weeks with him," her rep told us. Alfred, an engineer, and his wife, Patricia, a singer, divorced in 1973, when Mariah was 3. Though they were once estranged, in recent years they grew close again.
Mariah returned to Capri on Sunday to continue recording her first CD for Universal Music. Her rep said a memorial service is being planned.

Editor's Note: Reports started surfacing last week in Undernet's #Mariah chat room about Mariah's father. Though rumor had it that Mr. Carey had been suffering from kidney failure - the cause of his death was ultimately cancer. Usually cancer eventually shuts down the kidneys and other vital organs in stage three of the disease.
Mariah Land spoke to a Maroon Entertainment representative this morning to confirm the news, as this is a extremely serious matter, and to ask if they could give any further information about the situation. "Yes it is true," they stated. In regards to any memorial plans, a representative commented, "No date has been set that we are aware of."
The Mariah Land staff would like to send Mariah and her family our condolences and our full support and love. No matter your religious beliefs, please keep her family in your prayers.

Actually, Mariah's sister Allison is still living despite having full blown AIDS. Unfortunally, her and Mariah are not getting along despite of Mariah's effort to help her sister's while she's battling the disease. Several years ago, Allison wrote a book painted a unfriendly picture of her famous younger sister during Mariah's divorce from Tommy Mottola and Allison had sided the Sony Music chief claiming it was Mariah's fault for dumping him. That may started a chain reaction that led to Mariah's breakdown...Sad!
