Destiny's Child Dreaming Of A Bootylicious Christmas

Destiny's Child Dreaming Of A Bootylicious Christmas

When carolers ask 'What Child Is This?' this Christmas season, a new answer may pop out: 'It's Destiny's Child.'

The popular R&B trio are planning to flood the holiday season with an album, a television special and a doll line, according to singer Beyoncé Knowles' entrepreneurial father, manager Mathew Knowles.

Destiny's Child have already recorded five songs for what is projected to be an 11-track collection of updated traditional material mixed with four original holiday songs.

The as-yet-untitled album, co-produced by Beyoncé and due in November on Mathew's Music World Music label, will include solo cuts from each bandmember, plus a duet by Beyoncé and her younger sister, Solange Knowles.

Mathew Knowles revealed that Michelle Williams will sing 'O Holy Night' but said he wants to keep the rest of the songs a secret. So far, tracks have been recorded in Japan, Houston and New York, and at least one of them is a medley of traditional songs.

Coinciding with the release of the album, Destiny's Child will star in a Christmas special on NBC that will feature performances from the group, along with such special guests as the choir from the Knowles family's St. John's Methodist Church in downtown Houston. The group recently donated $500,000 to the church (see 'Destiny's Child Help Hometown Church With $500K Gift').

Also due this holiday season is a line of Destiny's Child dolls. The figures will feature a variety of accessories and wardrobe options, including the blue dresses they performed in at this year's Grammy Awards, styled by the mother of the Knowles family, Tina.

After the holiday season is over, the members of Destiny's Child will begin recording solo albums, Mathew said. Beyoncé will do a pop and R&B album, Kelly Rowland is planning an alternative and R&B disc, and Williams will record a gospel LP. Beyoncé said in December that their long-planned solo albums would be released at the same time and supported by one another (see 'Destiny's Child Solo CDs Won't Compete With Group, Each Other').

The members of Destiny's Child are also each in discussions for separate movie roles in different genres, Mathew said.

Additionally, Destiny's Child have recorded the theme song to the Disney Channel's upcoming animated series 'The Proud Family' with Solange. Beyoncé co-produced the song with composer Kurt Farquhar. (Meanwhile, the Baha Men have recorded the theme song to another new show for the channel, 'Stanley.')

Solange, who filled in for Rowland in Destiny's Child when Rowland broke two toes last fall (see 'Destiny's Child Has Tough Backstage Break'), is recording her solo debut, Solo Star, due in January on Music World Music.

The singer has been working for two months in a Houston recording studio under the guidance of Kandi Burruss, formerly of R&B group Xscape, Mathew said. The duo also wrote and recorded a song for 'Osmosis Jones,' the Chris Rock/Bill Murray flick out August 10.

Music World Music, which recently released the soundtrack to 'MTV's Hip Hopera: Carmen,' the made-for-cable movie in which Beyoncé starred, has also signed singer Chelsi, the 1995 Miss Universe.

Destiny's Child will kick off MTV's inaugural 'TRL' tour on July 18 in Albany, New York. They share the bill with Nelly, Eve, Dream, 3LW and Jessica Simpson (see 'Destiny's Child Hitting Road With Nelly, Eve, Dream').
