'Definitive' Richie Set Due In February

Lionel Richie, currently enjoying a modest career comeback, will on Feb. 4 release "The Definitive Collection" (UTV). The 20-track compilation disc culls Richie's best-known tracks from throughout his career, including 16 top-10 pop hits and a new recording, "To Love a Woman," which is a duet with co-writer Enrique Iglesias.

"The Definitive Collection" will also come with a bonus disc featuring Richie's personal selections, including a few tracks from his forthcoming live album "Encore." The set as a whole covers Richie's career from his days in the 1970s as one of the Commodores right up through 2002.

Some of the collection's highlights are "Three Times a Lady" and "Still" (with the Commodores), "Endless Love" (Richie's duet with Diana Ross), and solo hits like "Truly," "Hello," "All Night Long (All Night)," "Say You, Say Me," "Running With the Night," and "Dancing on the Ceiling." Also featured are "Angel," from Richie's 2001 album "Renaissance" (Island), and "Goodbye," a new track that will appear on the international version of "Encore."

As for "To Love a Woman," Richie says in a statement, "I wanted to work with Enrique and he wanted to work with me. I was really honored and flattered. We have a lot of respect for each other. We have our own styles but our voices really blend together. 'To Love a Woman' sounds like we've been singing together for years."

"Renaissance" debuted in April 2001 at No. 62 on The Billboard 200. His biggest success came with the 1983 set "Can't Slow Down" (Motown), which hit No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 160 weeks. That set has been certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 10 million copies.

I got a chance to hear this song on an Enrique UK fanclub website. It's really good. And it's true, their voices do sound good together. I hope it gets released as a single and there is a video for it. If not, at least it's nice to know it's available on both Lionel's and Enrique's cds.
