The Osbournes Mull Another Season

If it's Tuesday it must be time to watch MTV's 'The Osbournes.' But Tuesday's edition of Variety reports that the real action is taking place backstage on the reality-based sitcom, which continues to climb in the ratings. The trade paper reports that America's favorite TV family has signed with the Endeavor talent agency to help Ozzy and company look into the possibility of a second season of the show. Originally the Osbournes -- heavy metal vet Ozzy, his manager-wife, Sharon, and two of their children, Kelly, 17, and Jack, 16 (their eldest daughter, Aimee, 18, declined to be part of the show for reasons of privacy) -- said they would only do one season. But success has given way to some rethinking. According to Variety, the family was paid in the low seven figures for the show's first season, in a deal put together by Ozzy's CAA agent. But now that the Nielsen ratings have come in, everyone is starting to see green. Last week's episode was watched by more than 6 million viewers, winning a 19 share among adults aged 18 to 34 and beating everything else on cable and the major broadcast networks. 'The Osbournes' could conceivably end up among the season's top 10 series with adults 18 to 34 -- even including programming on the Big Six networks. So hot is the show that MTV is apparently considering expanding its reality programming: Entertainment Weekly (a sister publication of PEOPLE) reports that the network may soon focus its attention on rapper P. Diddy, and that Brandy may also permit a story about her pregnancy.
