MIAMI. - Megaestrella boricua Ricky Martin last night became the king of the "LATIN Music Billboard" awards when monopolizing three of these awards, that are given to the most outstanding Hispanic artists in the United States.
The international idol was joined by the late queen of Salsa Celia Cruz and the Colombian singer Juanes, who also scored three statuettes: one as soloist and two with the Canadian Nelly Furtado.
Ricky Martin was awarded in the categories of record of the year and Latin pop record with greater radial diffusion, by his song "Tal Vez", and his album "Almas del Silencio" he was also named the best of pop. Altogether he had five nominations, equal to Juanes.
Puerto Rico returned to shine in the delivery of Awards with the recognition to the salsera, India, who took two "Billboard" in the headings danceable Latin Club songs and Single Subject Dancable song, with "SedÃºceme/Seduce me now (Remixes)". In addition, Jennifer Lopez prevailed with Latin single "Ãm Glad".
While, Celia Cruz, who passed away in July of 2003, had seven nominations, winning in the categories Latin album, artist of the year and feminine tropical album by "Gift of the soul". Her disc "Hits mix" was able, in addition, to stand out as the best album of great Latin successes.
In the spectacle, led by the Argentine presenter Candle Ferro and the Mexican Mauricio Islands, included acts by Luis Fonsi, Gloria Estefan, Arturo Sandoval, Alicia Keys, La Ley, Paulina Riboa, To Pilar Montenegro and Alexander Fernandez, among others.
The awarding of prizes this year was based on the weekly lists of Billboard, of the 15 of February from the 2003 to the 7 of February of the 2004.
