"STARGATE: ATLANTIS", an upcoming new spinoff of the Sci-Fi Channel series "Stargate: SG-1", is now casting both starring and supporting for production starting in late February. Â
"Stargate: Atlantis" will be about an international team of scientists and military personnel that has ventured to a newly-discovered and abandoned Ancient City on a distant planet in the Pegasus Galaxy. This new show will premiere on Sci-Fi Channel as a two-hour movie next summer.
"Stargate: Atlantis" has been created by writer/producers Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, and is being produced by MGM.

The casting directors are now looking to fill a variety of principal and background roles.
"Lieutenant Aiden Ford", Caucasian or African-American, 20s.Â A boyishly good-looking officer, with an ebullient sense of humor.Â He volunteers for the Atlantis mission. A goodÂ guy in a tight spot, he accompanies Major Sheppard on a perilous rescue mission to the Wraith planet. He keeps a cool head and his finger on the trigger when the Wraiths are closing in on the rescue party.
"Major John Sheppard", Caucasian, 30s. A gifted military pilot at McMurdoch Air Force Base with a checkered past. Despite his "good-olâ€™ boy" exterior, he is also a closet mathematical genius. He has a wry sense of humor and likes to pretend heâ€™s not as smart as he really is. Most of the time he's a perfect gentlemen. He distrusts authority and always goes with his gut .
"Colonel Marshall Sumner", Caucasian, 40s - 50s. A hardened officer with a buzz cut and a hair-trigger temper, Colonel Sumner is no-nonsense and autocratic, a man who is accustomed to having his orders followed without question. He is the military leader of the Atlantis expedition, but he is second-in-command to Dr. Weir. At times, he forgets who's in charge, but he is an inspired commander who is committed to the mission, however dangerous.
"Dr. Benjamin Ingram", African-American, 40s.Â Â Ingram is a brilliant Canadian scientist who has done a heroic job of interfacing modern technology with those of the Ancients, and is in large part responsible for the new discoveries that have made the Atlantis mission possible. He also accompanies Dr. Weir and Major Sheppard on their risky journey to another galaxy, where Atlantis now lies.
"Dr. Elizabeth Weir", Caucasian, 30s. Attractive, brilliant, and the master of five languages, this woman worked behind the scenes for the U.S. government as a high-level international negotiator before being offered command of the Stargate Program by the new President. Now, she has been given the opportunity to lead an international team through the gate to a new galaxy on a grand mission to save all of humanity. (This role was played by actress Jessica Steen in the original series and is now being recast).
"Teyla", any ethnicity, 20s. Beautiful and soulful, she is a native of a post-apocalyptic alien world. Despite her youth, she has become a leader to her people. First seen as a love interest for Sheppard, she proves herself to be a surprisinglyÂ tough fighter and an invaluable source of knowledge about the people and worlds that she visits.Â This character was originally named Mikala
