Boys accepted a World Music Award via satellite in Australia during Monday
night's taped replay of the event.
May 27, 2001 - AJ McLean
has confirmed that he will not be available to attend bandmate Howie Dorough's
Lupus 2001 Fundraiser on June 1 and 2 at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, though
Nick is still scheduled to attend.

Boys helped host the TRL Retirement Home special on MTV this weekend and
the group also performed More Than That and the #1 song of TRL history,
I Want It That Way. The band put to rest rumors they were breaking up blaming
the British tabloids.

a mid-afternoon Backstreet Boys concert caused massive absences at a local
high school as students skipped school to attend the nearby performance.

Boys Kevin Richardson ended any speculation the band would break up after
their world tour saying, "We're going into the studio and starting another
LP. A lot of people have predicted that it's over. They've been predicting
that every time we were going to come out with an album. But we've been
together eight years now, and the next album will be our sixth."
May 24, 2001 - The Village
Voice's Michael Musto talked to Lou Pearlman about his current relationship
with *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys where he says there's no hard feelings
between him and the two groups, "No, that was several years ago, we're

Max Martin and Andreas Carlsson, songwriters for *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys,
and others, each took home a piece of the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year

Boys talked to TV Guide and again complained about *NSYNC following in
their trail as Howie asked "Can we ever do our own thing?" Kevin added
of their former shared management team, "When we would turn down a TV show
because we were worn out, they would book *NSYNC to do it."
May 22, 2001 - On Jay Leno's
monologue Monday; "Hey, you been reading this report about this -- in India,
this half man/half monkey thing that's on the loose in India? You read
about this thing? Well, police said today it's just a case of mass hysteria,
and it will die down and disappear very quickly. You know, kind of like
the Backstreet Boys. Same kind of thing."
May 20, 2001 - An autographed
photo by Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys is being auctioned on ebay.
The 16x20 poster, item #1432131069, is unbid at $45 and the auction ends
tomorrow.
May 19, 2001 - CBS began
showing commercials for the May 30th Backstreet Boys special on the network.
The one-hour program, scheduled to air at 8 p.m. ET/PT, features performance
footage from the group's concert at Los Angeles' Staples Center earlier

May 15, 2001 - NME.com talked
to the Backstreet Boys UK spokesperson who told them of the band's breakup
rumors "We have no official statement from America, but we suspect the
rumours are not hugely accurate. We're certainly not sat here panicking
or thinking 'Oh my God' until we have official word."
May 14, 2001 - NEWS FLASH
- BSB TO SPLIT News of the World reports the Backstreet Boys have decided
that the current world tour will be their last. Early next year, BSB will
release a greatest-hits album before breaking up. An insider for the band
told the tabloid, "They’ve been a huge success and want to bow out on top.
The lads are planning to release a greatest-hits album early in the new
year and that will be it. They have no plans to record as a band again,
but have the option of a reunion tour if they see fit." Read more.
May 13, 2001 - Shaggy talked
about how the Backstreet Boys laid paved the way for boy and girl bands
saying, "I remember in 1992 in Birmingham, England, they opened for me,
and I remember going through Europe and seeing these guys do malls and
their little routines when it was a handful of people in front of them.
If anybody worked for this sh** and deserves it, they do. *NSYNC and Christina
Aguilera and all, they just came in on the coattails, man; these boys broke
the damn thing open. They certainly deserve everything, and I respect them

last night.

Boys were questioned about Noel Gallagher's comments in January, when he
called their songs "rubbish" and said they "should be shot." AJ a news
conference in Caracas Venezuela "He should just go back to London." Kevin
added, "The only thing that matters for us is if we're happy with our music

Boys won World's Best Selling Pop Group and World's Best Selling American
Group at the World Music Awards in Monaco on Wednesday in Monaco.
May 2, 2001 - The Los Angeles
Times surveyed "22 of the most powerful executives in the record business"
for comments on the future of top current musicians, including the Backstreet
Boys. An executive said of BSB, "It's hard for me to get behind anything
[like the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC] because it feels so disposable to
me. If the Beatles stopped selling records tomorrow, I'd be shocked. If
the Backstreet Boys or 'N Sync did, I don't think anybody would be." Read
