set the record straight on his status with the Backstreet Boys in a column
he wrote to J-14's new issue. Nick says, "Right now, some people are worried
that the Backstreet Boys are over, but it's not true. The other guys are
supporting me on my solo project, which is good." Nick added, "I've been
recording my solo album for a long time, which is why it's further along
than the new BSB stuff, but don't worry -- I'm able to work on both!" Read

plans to support 'Now or Never' on tour, and he's in the process of assembling
a band for the outing. Meanwhile, the rest of the Backstreet Boys are in
the pre-production stage for their new album, which now appears to be due
out next year, rather than late this year as earlier had been speculated.

July 26, 2002 - You gotta
wonder if Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter knew that his lawyer Scott Salomon
of The Salomon Law Center would put out a press release/advertisement after
getting his client off (aside from community service) on allegedly disobeying
a police officer's request to leave a Tampa nightclub on January 2, 2002.
"I am glad to have this behind me," Carter said. "Scott did everything
that he said he would do and I was happy with the level of service that
he provided to me." Salomon said, "This was a case of a major celebrity
being used as an opportunity for a flashy arrest. Nick did not do anything
wrong, but be a celebrity in the wrong place at the wrong time. The police
have a tendency to make a big deal over a very minor altercation." Read
more.
July 26, 2002 - Josh Tyrangiel
of Teen People chatted with Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter on his upcoming
solo project, his arrest incident in Tampa, and his trouble finding a girlfriend.
On the latter subject, Carter says, "I don't know. I've got a problem,
man. It's hard to trust people. You wonder what they want, what they're
after. That's why I've been single for a year. I'm kinda scared [of] the
whole situation with dating somebody." Check out the entire interview and
picture scans here.
July 26, 2002 - Andre Sosnowski,
Production Assistant on MTV's Total Request Live recounted Backstreet Boys
star Howie Dorough's visit on April 25th. Sosnowski writes in the TRL diary,
"Well, the weather in NYC was quite nasty today, which can be good or bad
for our outside audience. The rain helped a singing Santa and the entire
outside audience get into the MTV studios. Howie D. was nice enough to
allow the outside audience to chill out in the green room and munch down
on his food. What you guys at home didn't see on camera was the soaking-wet
outside audience devouring all of Howie's food. I was told by another TRL
staffer that they didn't stop eating until all of his backstage munchies
were gone. This is a fair warning to all TRL guests - if you invite audience
members into your green room, you might have to hire extra security to
guard your eats."
July 24, 2002 - The New York
Daily News reports Nick Carter has riled his Backstreet Boys bandmates
by recording his debut solo album at the same time they're trying to record
the group's album. An insider said, "He wants to release his CD before
the band has even finished theirs. The other guys are really pissed." Nick's
manager Kenneth Crear admitted, "There could be tension, but I haven't
witnessed it. This is a chance for Nick to step out. It can only help the
Backstreet Boys." A rep at Jive Records said, "Nick's album is further
along than the Backstreet Boys', but they're all working together now."
July 24, 2002 - The National

A.J. -- who's into all the Hollywood trappings. His fame has gone to HER
head," said an insider. "Tensions boiled over when Sarah insisted on looking
for another new house even though they just bought a place at the beach.
In a little over two years they went from an apartment, to a leased mansion,
to a great big beach house of their own. But they haven't even moved into
the new place yet and Sarah's already begun looking for ANOTHER house.
It's crazy." Read more.

this is something I want to do very badly. I know they won't hold me back."
As for the release dates for both albums being so close, "They both are
up in the air. My album is coming along little further. Of all the groups
out there, I think we have some of the most talented people. I think we
could all be individually successful and have fun doing it by ourselves.
When I hear rumors about us breaking up, I toss them out the window, because
it's not true. I've been with a group since I was 12 and I just wanted
to try something different. A lot of people sad, 'Don't do it. It's the
wrong time.' I guess I was thinking, "When is the right time?" Read more.

She says he's a nice guy and had met him once before, but that the two
aren't dating. She says there is probably no chance she'd date him and
that he didn't try to put any moves on her. Mitch was very jealous about

is portrayed in the conversation... but it is a sports talk radio show.
