Almost everyone mined '80s music in some way, from pop to new wave to rock. But the more distressing commonality among these disparate acts was a general inability to take their slick favorites to the stage." Read more.

As for Carter, he says the tracks "make it very obvious though that Carter is playing up to the fans of the Backstreet Boys who have been without a new album for nearly two years. His songs are expected to fill that need, but it might be better for somebody who wants to make it as a solo act to take a cue from Timberlake who went off and did what he wanted." Read more.

Asked if he was worried that some fans might not accept you as a solo artist, Nick responded, "There is still that possibility. Really, I like that. I like a challenge. I’ve always been the type of person who has had to win people over from friends to girlfriends or anything I’ve decided to do. I just had to work really hard at it. In the end it is much better because people respect you. They truly have respect for you not because of all that other stuff, maybe because of the trends. I like to be an underdog." December 3, 2002 - elgato writes "MTV has once again demonstrated its long-time, on-going bias against the Backstreet Boys. MTV.com posted a story last week about BSB suing Zomba/Jive. Emails poured in from fans, all supporting the move. You can even look in the 'You Tell Us' section, where various emails from fans are posted. All but one supported the group. They said things like "I understand where Backstreet Boys are coming from, and I am totally with them on this" and "I'm so proud of Backstreet Boys for their lawsuit. As a BSB fan I have long watched Zomba and Jive use the boys and not show them the respect they deserve." However, the entry that MTV.com put in the 'You Tell Us' feature box, the entry that everyone who comes to the site would see, is the ONE that was against BSB, obviously from someone who's not even a BSB fan saying "Backstreet Boys need to stop blaming everyone else for their loss of popularity, and start looking at themselves." It's funny how when given 12 responses about BSB (11 positive and 1 negative), MTV chooses to put the single negative one in the spotlight. I thought professional journalists were supposed to be unbiased. Read the full fan comments submitted to MTV.com here."

December 3, 2002 - MissE119 writes "UK News on Yahoo has confused Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter with his bandmate Brian Littrell. According to their site (an ananova.com contributed article), Carter has become a father! You can see their mistake here, and see the correction here."

December 3, 2002 - elgato writes "The Village Voice compared Nick Carter and Justin Timberlake's solo efforts. The article compares their motives for going solo, their wardrobe, and their music. In their solo efforts, Carter is "counting on sincerity" while Timberlake "is running mostly on ego." Justin dresses as if he wants to be "Astaire, Elvis, and Michael all at once." Nick opts for the less-diva look going for "vintage car in T-shirt, jeans, and beat-up sneakers." Justin has a hit with 'Cry Me a River' though it is a "a lousy Aaliyah impression." Nick has the "beautifully derivative 'Girls in the U.S.A' hit," reminiscient of the song 'California Girls.' The critique finishes by comparing the boys' respective groups saying "The Backstreet Boys conducted themselves as clean messengers. They smiled, expressed the lyrics, nailed the harmonies, and pleased the audience." *NSYNC were more "self-absorbed" looking like "autistic Tourette's sufferers when they danced, dazzling with hard work over substance." Check out the full article here."

December 3, 2002 - elgato writes "Boymostlikely.com reports many Nick Carter fans have been confused about which songs from 'Now or Never' will be released where and when. It has been confirmed that 'Do I Have to Cry for You' will only be a single in the United States as 'I Got You' will be released in Europe and Australia as the second single. Australia won't get the single until February. The Backstreet Boys star shot the video in Key West during the Powerboat Racing World Championships (where his team took first place) on Tuesday. For the video, it is rumored that Nick will be joined in various snippets by fans from a variety of different countries."
