May 31, 2003 - elgato writes "Backstreet Boys star Brian Littrell, along with wife Leighanne and son Bailey, called into the Atlanta radio station Star 94 FM this morning. Brian told the DJs that, as we all know, BSB is on hiatus this year and that he and Leighanne will be hosting the Atlanta Grammy's 'Heroes Awards' on June 5th. He talked about fatherhood and joked that he used to burb Nick Carter and now he burbs Bailey. But Brian dropped a bomb when he announced that he is working on a solo album that will be a mixture of pop and gospel music. The DJs then invited Brian to attend the station's 'On The Bricks' concert series this summer. Brian expressed interest. His fellow Backstreeters are also engaged in solo projects during the groups hiatus: Nick Carter is working on his second solo album. Kevin Richardson is considering doing a piano-based Jazz album. Howie Dorough is getting ready to release his first solo album this Christmas. And all the members are encouraging AJ McLean to showcase his solo work. Brian said the Backstreet Boys will get back in the studio in early winter. Download an audio of the interview here."

May 31, 2003 - elgato writes "Brazil’s Valentine’s Day takes place on June 12th each year. So Capricho took up the opportunity to interview Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter about love. The interviewer asked, "People use to say that they are afraid to fall in love, but not to have sex. Wouldn’t it have to be the the opposite, since it is the sex that puts the people in risk?" Nick responded, "Ok, this one deserves some thinking! It's more complicated to fall in love then to have sex. When you have sex, you put your body into it, but not necessarily your mind and soul, that are much more difficult to deal with. When you fall in love you put in the game each element of yourself: body, soul, confidence, mind, devotion. You are more open in a relationship." Even Kelly Osbourne performed, though she cried as she was booed off stage. Rangel reports that the "tour of Acapulco Fest 2003 descended smoothly over the South Garden of the Convention Center. Six more acts, but Nick Carter was the main 'reason for waiting' for the 2,500 people who had gathered there... They wanted Nick, and only when he arrived, would some awake from their sleepiness, and others from their apathy." The film, based on a modern-day 'Sleepy Hollow' follows New England high school seniors who learn that they are the direct descendents of those responsible for a tragic event that begins to replay itself. "It couldn't have been more perfect for what I was looking to achieve in making the move into acting," Carter said. "I didn't want it to be something that felt fake or just not right. The role itself is perfect. It's not too much; it's just enough to show people that I can do it."

May 20, 2003 - elgato writes "Johanna Kandel of Vteens.org reviewed the Sunfest 2003 concert series. She says of Nick Carter's set: "I will admit that I was not sure what to expect. I was, however, tremendously surprised by his great performance and will confess to buying his CD after the show. The first thing I noticed about Nick was how much passion he put into his music and what a natural performer he was. His sound is definitely more rock than what we have seen from the Backstreet Boys, but it suited him extremely well. Not only does he still have those signature dance moves, but wowed the crowd with his meticulous guitar playing. He sang about 8 songs from his recent C.D. including 'Help Me', 'Girls in the U.S.A.' and 'My Confession', and much to the crowd's contentment 'Shape of My Heart', 'Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)', and 'I Want It That Way' (from the Backstreet Boys' Discography)." May 19, 2003 - elgato writes "SweetDfan at MatureFanClub.com says, "Howie showed up at KIIS FM's Wango Tango today, just a brief appearance to introduce Daniel Bedingfield. But while talking with JoJo he said that to 'bridge the gap' between now and when the group records again (though he didn't say when that would be), he's decided to put out a solo album, 'sort of an English/Spanish, Enrique Iglesias/Ricky Martin thing' he said. And he said 'I'll be shaking my bon bon!' I didn't catch an estimated arrival date on it if he said one. JoJo said he would be in-studio to talk about it but I didn't catch the day for sure. I thought he said Wednesday, but I could be wrong so I'm gonna check into that." Read more."

May 17, 2003 - Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter chatted with Soundspike.com and talked about his influences in music. "First of all, I've always been very influenced by rock ballads and those big, early-'90s rock songs and the '70s big choruses that are just so memorable," he said. "Like Bon Jovi's 'Livin' on a Prayer'--those things that everyone sings along to and they felt good singing it. Those songs aren't so complex. I think music is too complex these days. One thing I learned with the Backstreet Boys is to keep it very simplistic. Good hooks are very good. Sometimes, I hear those songs and, yeah, they're very creative, but they forget about the reason the whole pop era did so well. The Britneys, the Backstreet Boys, they did it. Simple hooks and very simplistic songs are easy for the audience to sing along to. That's where the comparisons to Bon Jovi and Def Leppard come from." Read more.

May 6, 2003 - elgato writes "The Palm Beach Post reviewed what's happened so far in the 4-day long Sunfest concert series taking place in Florida. The show stoppers include John Mayer and Nick Carter. The reviewer says, "Saturday was 'Cute Boy' day. Hours before Mayer's show, new vocal group Voyces made an initially enthusiastic but quickly tired showing, while erstwhile Backstreet Boy and Florida native Nick Carter showcased his recent solo album, including 'Girls In The USA' and 'Help Me'. Carter put his slightly hoarse voice to good use. He even played guitar along with his group of young, garage-band-looking players. It wasn't brilliant. But it was OK. And he, like Mayer, is a natural performer. Carter got the best response when he and the fellows in the band perched on stools and did acoustic versions of three Backstreet Boys songs, 'Shape of My Heart', 'Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)' and 'I Want It That Way'. The latter, a soft rock radio staple, had several middle-aged men in the crowd singing along. Yes, we saw you." Read the full review here."
